NOV 21 ACC DEFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK: Keion White Georgia Tech, DE, Garner, N.C.,...Turned in one of the most dominant performances by an ACC defensive lineman this season in Saturday's 21-17 upset of No. 13 North Carolina, racking up three sacks, four tackles for loss and seven total tackles ... Became the only ACC player and one of just eight FBS players this season with three sacks, four TFL and seven total tackles in a game ... Only the fifth ACC player in the last five seasons and the first Georgia Tech player since current Los Angeles Charger Jeremiah Attaochu in 2013 (versus Georgia) to post those numbers ... White led a Yellow Jacket defense that had six quarterback sacks and recorded 12 total TFL while holding UNC to season lows for points, total offense and passing yards. - ACC Football

Zach Gibson threw for 174 yards and Georgia Tech scored 21 unanswered points for a 21-17 road win against No. 13 North Carolina on Saturday. Georgia Tech (5-6, 4-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) trailed 17-0 late in the first half, but started to methodically move the ball. All three of its scoring drives were for 68-plus yards and culminated with rushing touchdowns. A 6-yard score on the ground by Hassan Hall with just over 11 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter proved to be the ticket for the Yellow Jackets, who kept their bowl hopes alive and improved to 4-3 under interim coach Brent Key.

North Carolina (9-2, 6-1 ACC) was riding a six-game winning streak and clinched the ACC's Coastal Division last week. The Tar Heels had a chance to regain the lead late in the fourth quarter, but Josh Downs dropped a 4th-and-11 pass from quarterback Drake Maye in the end zone with just over four minutes remaining. Maye, who had emerged as a possible Heisman contender as a redshirt freshman, failed to score a touchdown for the first time this season and had a season-low 202 yards passing. He was also sacked a season-high six times by Georgia Tech, three of which came via Keion White. - Georgia Tech/AP College Football

The last time Keion White was healthy and playing football, it was at Old Dominion in 2019. A full-systems-go White contributing to a Georgia Tech defense that needs a boost has been a long time coming, but it seems that might finally be coming to fruition. "I'm 1,000% back," White said Saturday at Media Day. "I was getting to the point last year where I was just trying to get back on the field and feel comfortable being back on the field. Wasn't able to get to that point. But over the offseason I've done a lot of rehab, done a lot of training, done a lot of field work, and I'm at the point where I'm confident enough that I feel like I'm better than I was before I was injured. So I'm definitely 1,000% back." White played in the Yellow Jackets' final four games of last season, but wasn't fully healthy. He also didn't get to play in 2020, with Old Dominion forgoing the season because of COVID-19. He transitioned to defensive end in the spring of 2019 after playing two seasons at tight end.

So, now, White brings a unique perspective to Tech in two ways: he's a super senior, one of the older guys in the room, and can break down the game from the perspective of the offense and the defense. He also figures to play an important role on the defensive line, with starters Jordan Domineck (now at Arkansas) and Jared Ivey (now at Ole Miss) transferring, as the Jackets aim to bounce back from three consecutive three-win seasons. "I'm really excited about Keion," coach Geoff Collins said Saturday. "I think when he came to us a year-and-a-half ago, there was a lot of build-up and a lot of excitement. And unfortunately Keion had some injury things and wasn't ever 100% last year, but he is a tough, physical person. He's a leader in the locker room, and it's not a lot of rah-rah, it's not a lot of talk, but just his attitude, his demeanor, his seriousness, his focus, how he works every single day kind of permeates throughout our entire locker room and our entire organization." - Atlanta Journal Constitution

The media projection for Georgia Tech's season is a bit dismal. In a survey of 147 media voters, the Yellow Jackets were picked to finish sixth in the seven-team ACC Coastal Division. The poll was released Monday. North Carolina was an overwhelming favorite to win the Coastal, with 109 first-place votes, while Clemson was picked by all but one voter to win the Atlantic Division and by 125 voters to win the conference championship. The Tigers have won the ACC for six consecutive seasons. Tech was picked by four voters to win the Coastal and by one voter to win the conference title. - Atlanta Journal Constitution

In just his third game playing defense (played tight end last year) and his first game at the bandit position, White registered a career-high 3.5 tackles for loss, the third most in a single-game in school history. The Garner, North Carolina native also blocked a field goal early in the fourth quarter that kept ODU's 17-14 lead at the time.
