Eric Monroe, Texas Tech, Player News

  05/11/21 - SS Eric MonroerSr/2022, Texas Tech, 5-11, 200 (DS#66 SS) + More +

The senior Monroe will enter into the 2021 season as Tech's 3rd-leading returning tackler. Last year, the safety finished with a secondary-high 59 tackles to go along with a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and a pair of pass breakups. The former national champion at LSU's decision to return for a final year may be one of the most overlooked offseason news for Texas Tech. - Dallas Morning News

For Texas Tech, it's never too late to land some of the top football talent coming out of Texas high schools, even if some of the talent arrives four years later. Eric Monroe, who helped Galena Park North Shore win a state championship in 2015 and was one of bluest of the state's blue chips that year, announced Saturday he is coming to Texas Tech as a graduate transfer. Monroe, a safety, has spent the past four years at LSU, which listed him at 5-foot-11 and 209 pounds. Monroe redshirted for the Tigers in 2016, then got credit for 14 tackles and two passes defended in 2017. He played in only four games in 2018, recording no statistics, then got into 12 games last season and was credited with seven tackles including a tackle for loss. As a grad transfer, Monroe will be immediately eligible for the Red Raiders. He had his name entered into the transfer portal last week. - Lubbock Avalanche Journal

  06/19/20 - SS Eric MonroerSr/2022, Texas Tech, 5-11, 200 (DS#66 SS) + More +

LSU senior safety Eric Monroe has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to multiple reports. Monroe entered the portal Friday, reports said, allowing other college coaches to contact him about transferring from LSU. NCAA rules allow him to later remove his name from the portal. AL.com's Matt Zenitz first reported the news. Monroe arrived at LSU considered a top-50 recruit by 247Sports and consensus top-5 high school safety in the country. Monroe, a former four-star prospect, redshirted his first year on campus, giving him one more season of eligibility. Monroe has appeared in 29 games over three seasons, including 12 during LSU's run to the national championship. He made seven tackles last year as a backup safety and special teams contributor. - Baton Rouge Advocate
