  Mark Pappas threw three touchdown passes and Issiah Aguero ran for 123 yards as Morehead State rolled past Valparaiso 51-38 in the regular season finale on Saturday. The Eagles (7-4, 6-2) finish tied for third place with St. Thomas in the Pioneer Football League, a game back of Davidson and San Diego. Morehead State has posted a winning record in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2002 and 2003, and its seven wins is the most since 2015.

Pappas threw all three of his touchdowns to DeVonte Adams, who finished with three catches for 169 yards. The pair connected from 33 yards out for the game's first score and again from 12 yards out midway through the third quarter. Their final touchdown came on a 57-yard strike with 4:49 left in the third quarter to give the Eagles a 34-17 lead. Pappas was 21 of 32 for 389 yards, but was intercepted in the fourth quarter by Nathan Orlandini, who returned it 20 yards for a touchdown. Ben Nimz was 19 of 332 for 230 yards and two touchdowns for the Beacons (4-7, 4-4) but was picked off three times. Robert Washington carried 33 times for 159 yards. - AP College Football

  Mark Pappas and BJ Byrd connected on a go-ahead 4-yard touchdown with 20 seconds left, their fourth scoring play, and Morehead State beat Stetson 36-35 on Saturday. Byrd caught 12 passes for a career-high 223 yards with the four touchdowns setting a school record. He also set the program's single-season mark for yardage (1,214), catches (85) and TDs (13). It was his FCS-leading eighth 100-plus-yard game, and was just eight shy of setting a record for single-game yards. Pappas was 26-of-54 passing for 395 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions for Morehead State (6-4, 5-2). The Eagles held Stetson to a three-and-out, and took over at their 7-yard line with 2:44 remaining. Pappas connected with Byrd on a 44-yard toss and on a third-and-5, Pappas found Michael Armour down to the 3-yard line. Byrd, a Jacksonville transfer leaped over his defender for the go-ahead score.   Mark Pappas threw for 396 yards and three touchdowns, rallying the Eagles past Marist 27-24 on Saturday. The Eagles (5-2, 4-0) won their fourth straight game and remained unbeaten atop the Pioneer Football League with Davidson. They are off to their first 4-0 start in league play since 2002. Pappas, who was 32-of-52 passing, threw a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns, an 18-yarder to Matt DeBlaiso and a 25-yarder to Matt Guilfoil, the latter giving the Eagles a 27-24 lead with just over a minute remaining. The winning drive included a first-down conversion on fourth-and-11 on a Pappas pass. B.J. Byrd led the Eagles with 113 yards receiving on 11 catches, including a touchdown. Austin Day threw for 202 yards including a touchdown and an interception for the Red Foxes (3-3, 3-1), who had a three-game win streak snapped.   Mark Pappas threw touchdowns of 17 and 16 yards to BJ Byrd in the third quarter and Morehead State beat Butler 31-8 on Saturday. Pappas, who threw four interceptions, connected with Byrd to make it a 24-0 advantage. Pappas finished 25-of-39 passing for 223 yards and two touchdowns. Earl Stoudemire ran for 148 yards on 15 carries, Issiah Aguero tallied 107 yards on 20 carries and a touchdown and Chance Harris scored a touchdown. Byrd caught nine passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns for the Eagles (3-2, 2-0 Pioneer Football League).   Mark Pappas passed for 313 yards and two touchdowns and Issiah Aguero ran for 113 yards and two scores to propel Morehead State to a 38-30 victory over Presbyterian in Pioneer Football League action on Saturday. Morehead State (3-2, 2-0) jumped out to a 17-0 first-quarter lead on Andrew Foster's 33-yard field goal and 1-yard TD runs by Earl Stoudemire and Aguero. After Presbyterian (2-3, 0-2) scored on Ren Hefley's 20-yard TD toss to Jalen Jones, Pappas answered with an 11-yard scoring strike to Matt DeBlaiso and the Eagles took a 24-6 lead into halftime.

Hefley's 17-yard TD throw to Jalyn Witcher and his 2-point conversion pass to Jones was the only scoring in the third quarter and pulled the Blue Hose within 24-14. Pappas and Thomas Campbell-Clay hooked up for a 6-yard TD to push the Eagles' lead back to 17 just 6 seconds into the final quarter. Hefley and Witcher connected for a 92-yard scoring strike and Delvecchio Powell II ran it in for two points to make it 31-22 with 6:14 left to play. Aguero put the finishing touches on Morehead State's victory with a 1-yard TD run with 3:31 remaining. Hefley tossed a 34-yard TD pass to Mack Simmons and Powell ran it in for two points with 1:07 left to cap the scoring. Hefley, a University of Michigan transfer, set PFL and Blue Hose records with 50 completions in 80 attempts. He passed for 539 yards but threw three interceptions. Hefley had a FCS-record 10 touchdown passes in his first start for Presbyterian. Only Jeremy Moses of Stephen F Austin threw more passes (85 against Sam Houston State in 2008) in an FCS game.   Mark Pappas opened overtime with a 25-yard scoring pass to DeVonte Adams, and Tyler Noble intercepted a pass five plays later to secure Morehead State's 45-38 victory over Dayton on Saturday. Pappas threw for a school-record 481 yards and six touchdowns with just 11 incompletions. Pappas broke Austin Gahafer's single-game passing record of 465 against Butler in 2016, and he was one short of tying Chris Swartz's passing TD record of seven in 1990.

Jack Cook also reached 400 yards passing for Dayton, finishing with 428 yards and two TDs. He also carried it 12 times for 36 yards and two more scores. Pappas' 46-yard scoring pass to Jeremiah Scott made it 31-28 late in the third and BJ Byrd's 19-yard scoring grab extended Morehead State's lead to 10 points. Cook connected with Andrew Holderer at 2:55 for a 4-yard TD and after a three-and-out by Morehead State, Sam Webster kicked a 30-yard field goal with 1:06 left in regulation to tie it.   SEPT 13 PIONEER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mark Pappas, Morehead State, Senior, Quarterback, Avon Lake, Ohio,...Pappas threw a career-high five touchdowns in Morehead State's 62-9 victory against Point University (Ga.), Saturday. He completed 29-of-45 passes for 286 yards in 41:17 of game time and had a reception on a batted pass that he carried for four yards and a first down to keep alive a scoring drive. Pappas threw the game's first four touchdowns, connecting from 20, 11, 18, and 21 yards before later adding a third-quarter touchdown throw with 3:43 remaining in the game to end his outing. He completed passes to 11 different receivers in the outing and connected on touchdown passes to four different receivers.   Mark Pappas threw for 286 yards and fired a career-best five touchdown passes as Morehead State walloped NAIA member The Point 62-9 in front of a Family Weekend crowd of 6,607 on Saturday. The game was scheduled on the fly as both Morehead State and The Point had their original opponents cancel because of COVID concerns. The Point, from West Point, Ga., had one yard of total offense before mounting a drive into the red zone late in the first half. The promising drive ended in an 85-yard pick-six by Giovanni Hererra. The Skyhawks managed 193 yards of offense with three turnovers while Morehead State amassed 508 yards, including 359 passing. BJ Byrd caught nine passes for 102 yards with touchdowns of 20 and 11 yards as Morehead State took a 14-0 lead midway through the first quarter.   Mark Pappas threw for 303 yards and three long touchdowns and Morehead State outlasted Valparaiso 27-21 on Saturday. Morehead State (5-5, 3-3 Pioneer League) took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter on two Pappas touchdown passes and led by that score at halftime. The Crusaders (1-9, 1-5) tied it in the third on two Chris Duncan TD passes and the Eagles scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns for a 27-14 lead. Duncan hit Deuce Larose with a 2-yard scoring pass with 1:13 to go but Morehead's Jordan Huffman recovered the ensuing on-side kick.

The Eagles never ran a play in the red zone and their shortest touchdown was a 27-yard pass from Pappas to Landon Hurst. Pappas also passed for touchdowns of 83 yards to Huffman and 73 yards to Ian Holder. Issiah Aguero scored on a 37-yard run. Holder had three catches for 110 yards; Huffman 3 for 104.   Mark Pappas threw for three touchdowns and Morehead State beat Butler 31-20 on Saturday. Pappas was 21-of-29 passing for 300 yards for the Eagles (4-3, 2-1 Pioneer League). Pappas threw a 54-yard touchdown to DeVonte Adams on the third play of the Eagles opening drive. Andrew Foster kicked a 44-yard field goal late in the first quarter and Pappas hit Jordan Huffman for a 32-yard score early in the second to lead 17-0. Butler scored on a Nick Orlando keeper with 7:52 left in the second quarter but DeAndre Clayton's short touchdown run to close the half stretched the Eagles lead to 24-7. The Bulldogs (1-6, 0-3) closed to 24-20 early in the fourth and Pappas replied for Morehead State with a 28-yard scoring strike to Ian Holder for the game-winning margin.   Morehead State had two touchdown runs in a 48-second span late in the fourth quarter and the Eagles ended an 11-game losing streak to Jacksonville with a 30-22 victory on Saturday. Morehead State (3-3, 1-1 Pioneer Football League) trailed the Dolphins (2-4, 0-2) 22-16 when backup quarterback Deandre Clayton vaulted his way into the end zone from a yard out to put the Eagles up a point with 2:31 remaining in the game.

Jacksonville turned the ball over on downs at its own 24-yard line when Calvin Turner Jr.'s pass to BJ Byrd fell incomplete. Issiah Aguero romped 24 yards for a TD on the Eagles' next play to push the lead to 30-22 with 1:43 left. Jacksonville made it as far as the Morehead State 36-yard line before turning it over on downs. Morehead State grabbed a 7-0 lead just two plays into the game when Mark Pappas hooked up with Aguero for a 49-yard TD. Andrew Foster kicked three field goals and his first gave the Eagles a 10-7 lead at halftime. Aguero topped the Eagles with 86 yards rushing on 12 carries.   Morehead State sophomore quarterback Mark Pappas tossed for 236 yards and three scores in his first career start as he helped power the football Eagles to a 44-7 victory over Union (Ky.) on a picture-perfect Thursday evening at Jayne Stadium. Pappas completed 15 of 21 passes for 236 yards, with scoring strikes of 21 yards to Jacob Peters, 48 yards to Jordan Huffman and 34 yards to Hunter Richardson. Pappas opened the scoring with a 1-yard run, and Jova Smith's 2-yard run made it 16-0 in the second quarter.

The Pioneer League Eagles scored all five times they reached the red zone and outgained the Bulldogs 587 total yards to 315. Morehead State had a 294-34 edge in rushing yards, led by Issiah Aguero, (131 yards on 13 carries). Beau Griego, Eldee Edwards and Isaiah Tigler each grabbed interceptions, with Tigler's fourth-quarter pick leading to Earl Stoudemire's 7-yard TD run on the following drive. The Bulldogs scored late in the fourth quarter on backup quarterback Conn Marchionda's second pass attempt of the game, an 80-yarder to Earl Wells, who caught four passes for 143 yards.
