 Corey Dauphine, Tulane, Player News

  07/06/20 - RB Corey DauphinerSr/2021, Tulane, 5-11, 198 (DS#53 RB) + More +

For Tulane running back Corey Dauphine, it was the news he didn't want to hear his doctor say. Dauphine's college football career, including the final season he had won an appeal to get, was over before it ever started because of a torn Achilles. "It killed me hearing those words come out of his mouth," Dauphine said in an Instagram post Saturday. "I had so much to prove this season, I wanted the world to feel me. I wanted the world to hear my story." It is unclear when or where Dauphine suffered the injury.

Dauphine, in what was his fifth college season, led all Tulane running backs in 2019 with 575 yards and seven touchdowns while averaging 8.0 yards per carry. But in March, the NCAA granted him a sixth year of eligibility based on injuries and assistant coaching changes he dealt with in 2016 when he played at Texas Tech. He played in just three games Texas Tech and had just two carries before transferring to Tulane. Dauphine said at the time that he was surprised to get the extra year. - New Orleans Times Picayune

  03/05/20 - RB Corey DauphinerSr/2021, Tulane, 5-11, 198 (DS#53 RB) + More +

Tulane's crowded, talented backfield just got deeper. The Green Wave announced Thursday afternoon that running back Corey Dauphine had been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA and would be available to practice in spring drills immediately. Dauphine, a Texas Tech transfer, led Tulane running backs with 575 yards and seven touchdowns while averaging 8.0 yards per carry in 2019. Known for his breakaway ability, he had eight gains of 30 yards or more in 2018, finishing with 785 yards and seven scores.

At Texas Tech, Dauphine redshirted in 2015 and played in three games in 2016 with two carries. He sat out 2017 at Tulane as a transfer. A source indicated Tulane was not sure it would win the appeal for Dauphine, and the Wave was pleasantly surprised. "Corey has played a large role within our offense for the past two years and I believe he is one of the most explosive players in the country," coach Willie Fritz said. "Not only does he provide depth to our running backs unit, but he also will provide great leadership to our younger players." - New Orleans Times Picayune
