Jim Harbaugh, who former president Barack Obama declared last month "on the right side" of race relations and social justice reform in the United States, is now saying the same thing about Colin Kaepernick. In a recent podcast interview with Jed Hughes, vice chairman and head of global sports practice at national consulting firm Korn Ferry, the head football coach at Michigan praised Kaepernick - the former NFL quarterback who was blackballed from the league - for being one of the first sports figures t o lead the charge on reform."You got to listen to people and really hear what they're saying," Harbaugh said. "Colin's been on the right side of this for a long time. I remember some very early conversations, when Colin decided to take a knee duri ng the national anthem, and the person that's first gets so much backlash. So, just for Colin, like 'I love you, man.' Then to listen to him explain (it)." At the time, in 2016, Harbaugh said he supported Kaepernick in his motivation but took exception t o him kneeling for the "The Star Spangled Banner," a ritual before all sporting events in the U.S. Harbaugh reversed course on his stance a year later, when some of his players at Michigan showed support for Kaepernick by raising their fists before games . He later called Kaepernick, who played quarterback on his San Francisco 49ers teams from 2011 to 2014, "a special person and a hero." He echoed those same sentiments in the interview with Hughes. - Ann Arbor News

A push is underway at UNR to erect a statue of quarterback Colin Kaepernick. A Facebook group made up of more than 500 members has launched the campaign. Kaepernick, a star quarterback for the Wolf Pack in 2007-10, made national news for kneeling during the national anthem while with the San Francisco 49ers in 2016. He took the action to protest police brutality toward African-Americans, an action that was highly controversial at the time but is now more widely supported. The statue would be of Kaeperni ck kneeling in front of Mackay Stadium. "This is a win-win for the school, especially if the statue is largely funded by alumni," the group posted. "It would make a very powerful statement to future students, especially black ones." - Las Vegas Review Jo urnal
