  11/14/22 - Corey LucianorSr/2023, Washington, 6-3, 307 (DS#28 C) + More +

NOV 14 PAC-12 OFFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK: Corey Luciano, Sr., C, Washington (Danville, Calif.),...Was the highest-graded offensive lineman in Washington's 37-34 win over No. 6 Oregon in Eugene. Huskies compiled 522 yards of total offense: 114 on the ground and 408 through the air, averaging a whopping 9.2 yards per play. For the 7th time in 10 games this year, the line also kept Michael Penix Jr.'s uniform clean, not allowing a sack. In fact, Oregon managed just 2 tackles for loss, for just 2 yards. 2nd Washington player to win this award this season with Troy Fautanu being honored in Week 3. Also nominated: Joshua Gray, LT, Oregon State; Keaton Bills, LG, Utah; Brett Neilon, C, USC; Paiton Fears, RT, Arizona. - Pac-12 Football

  11/12/22 - Michael Penix Jr.rSr/2024, Washington, 6-2, 216 (DS#5 QB) + More +

Peyton Henry kicked a 43-yard field goal with 51 seconds left and No. 24 Washington snapped No. 6 Oregon's eight-game winning streak with a 37-34 victory Saturday, dealing a blow to the Ducks' chances for a spot in the College Football Playoff. Michael Penix Jr. threw a 62-yard scoring pass to Taj Davis to tie it at 34 with 3:07 to go after Oregon quarterback Bo Nix limped off the field on the previous series. Nix returned after Henry's field goal and got the Ducks (9-2, 6-1, No. 6 CFP) to the Washington 38 but the final drive fizzled with a penalty. The Huskies (8-2, 5-2, No. 25 CFP) won in Eugene for the first time since 2016.

Penix threw for 408 yards and two touchdowns as Washington stopped a 13-game losing streak against ranked Oregon teams. The last win was in 2002 when the Huskies beat No. 23 Oregon 42-12. Washington was 0-7 against the Ducks when they're ranked in the top 10. Nix fell after a 2-yard run on third-and-5 on the Washington 10 and he limped off the field. Cameron Lewis' 26-yard field goal finished the drive to make it 34-27 with 3:54 left. He was replaced for a series by backup Ty Thompson. Nix threw for 280 yards and two scores, and ran for 59 yards and another touchdown. The loss snapped a 23-game home winning streak, the third-longest streak in the nation and a win shy of the school record. Penix went into the game as the national leader in passing yards per game with 359.1. He had a streak of eight straight games with 300 or more yards passing that just ended last week in a victory over Oregon State. The Huskies scored on their opening series when Penix handed off to Wayne Taulapapa, who dashed 13 yards down the middle for the TD. The Ducks settled for a 43-yard field goal from Lewis on their first drive. Henry kicked a 30-yarder to make it 10-3 early in the second quarter. - Washington/AP College Football

NOV 7 PAC-12 SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Peyton Henry, Sr., PK, Washington (Danville, Calif.),...Henry wasn't asked to do much in the Huskies' 24-21 win over No. 23 Oregon State, but his 22-yard field goal with just 8 seconds to go provided the winning margin...The game was marked by windy conditions that even led to a 25-minute delay after some of the Husky Stadium lights were knocked out...Henry is 12-for-14 on field goals and 39-for-39 on extra points, making him the Huskies' leading scorer, with 75 points...2nd time this season winning this award (Week 4) and 3rd time in his career (Week 9 in 2021). First UW player to take home this award multiple times in the same season since KR/WR Dante Pettis in 2017.   11/05/22 - Rome OdunzerJr/2024, Washington, 6-3, 212 (DS#3 WR) + More +

Peyton Henry made a 22-yard field goal with 8 seconds left to cap a 92-yard scoring driving, and Washington held off No. 24 Oregon State 24-21 on Friday night to preserve its hopes in the Pac-12 championship game race. The Huskies took over at their own 3 with 4:33 left. Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. led a march downfield against the Beavers' stingy defense. Penix was 9 of 13 for 66 yards on the drive. His push pass to Giles Jackson for 12 yards got the Huskies to the Oregon State 2. After a pair of incompletions, The Huskies set up for the short field goal and Henry delivered the winning kick. Washington (7-2, 4-2 Pac-12) won its third straight and kept alive its slim hopes of finding a spot in Las Vegas in the conference title game. Penix, the nation's leader in passing, was 30 of 52 for 298 yards and a 24-yard touchdown pass on third-and-goal to Jack Westover in the third quarter.

Wayne Taulapapa ran for two touchdowns for Washington, the second coming early in the fourth quarter to tie the score at 21-21. Rome Odunze had seven receptions for 102 yards. The game wasn't without some typical late-night Pac-12 wackiness. Blustery winds affected the passing and kicking game all night and the game was stopped for 25 minutes early in the fourth quarter after partial power outage took down some of the stadium lights illuminating the field. Deshaun Fenwick rushed for a pair of touchdowns and linebacker Easton Mascarenas-Arnold returned an interception 37 yards for a score for Oregon State, which was playing its first game ranked in The AP Top 25 since the 2013 season opener. But the Beavers (6-3, 3-3) will lament two missed opportunities in the first half going for it on fourth downs deep in Washington's end of the field and failing to convert. The windy, blustery conditions made kicking an adventure all night, but failing to get points on those drives came back to bite Oregon State. - Rice/AP College Football

  10/23/22 - Michael Penix Jr.rSr/2024, Washington, 6-2, 216 (DS#5 QB) + More +

Michael Penix Jr. threw a go-ahead 14-yard touchdown pass to Jalen McMillan early in the fourth quarter to lead Washington past California 28-21 on Saturday night. Penix threw for 374 yards and two TDs for his eighth straight 300-yard passing game to help the Huskies (6-2, 3-2 Pac-12) win their first road game of the season. Jack Plummer threw three touchdown passes in the second half for the Golden Bears (3-4, 1-3). But it wasn't enough to prevent Cal from losing its third straight game. Penix led Washington on three straight TD drives in the second half. He found McMillan wide open in the front of the end zone to give the Huskies the lead for good and added a 36-yarder to Richard Newtown on another third-down pass later in the fourth to make it 28-14.

Plummer, who threw two TD passes to J. Michael Sturdivant in the third quarter, got Cal within 28-21 with an 8-yard strike to Mavin Anderson on fourth down with 6:11 to play. But Cal failed to get a first down on its final two drives and came up short at the end. Washington completely dominated the first half everywhere but the scoreboard. The Huskies outgained the Bears 245-83 in the half, didn't allow Cal to cross midfield for more than 27 minutes but only lead 6-0 at the break. Washington settled for field goals on its first two drives and then Peyton Henry missed a 34-yarder after an offensive pass interference spoiled a goal-to-go situation. - Washington/AP College Football

  10/15/22 - Michael Penix Jr.rSr/2024, Washington, 6-2, 216 (DS#5 QB) + More +

Michael Penix Jr. passed for a school-record 516 yards and four touchdowns and ran for another score and Washington beat Arizona 49-39 on Saturday. Penix hit Rome Odunze on scoring passes of 45 and 48 yards in the decisive third quarter to help the Huskies snap a two-game losing streak. The junior transfer entered the game as the nation's second-leading passer and didn't disappoint in a game that featured the Pac-12 Conference's top two offenses and two of its star quarterbacks. Penix led the Huskies to 608 total yards of offense and, along with breaking Cody Pickett's passing record of 455 yards, he set the school record for total yards with 529, breaking Marcus Tuiasosopo's record (509 yards). Penix led the Huskies to a quick 7-0 lead on their first drive, hitting Jalen McMillan in the back of the end zone for a 23-yard touchdown. Jayden De Laura tied the game two drives later when he hit Tetairoa McMillan, who broke a tackle on his way to a 46-yard touchdown.

Tailback Cameron Davis put Washington up 14-7 with a 1-yard dive early in the second quarter, one of two scoring runs. The Huskies' early lead might have been bigger, but the Wildcats defense came up with two fourth-and-short stops in the first half. Jalen Harris and Jacob Manu stuffed Taulapapa on fourth-and-2 in the first quarter and D.J. Warnell Jr. stopped Cameron Davis for no gain on fourth-and-1 at the 19 in the second quarter. De Laura tied it 14-14 on a 39-yard pass to Dorian Singer, who came wide open down the right sideline when his defender, Jordan Perryman, came up lame and began to limp. The Wildcats left 2:23 on the clock, however, and Penix picked apart the defense on a 12-play, 75-yard drive capped by a 4-yard scoring pass to Sam Adams II with 8 seconds left for a 21-14 halftime lead. Penix was 9 of 11 on the drive for 72 yards. - Washington/AP College Football

FIU's top player, wide receiver Tyrese Chambers, was injured and held to just two catches and 15 yards. MacIntyre had no immediate update on his status. Starting safety C.J. Christian, however, is out for the year due to a shoulder injury. "That's a big loss for us," MacIntyre said. In addition, FIU's offensive line is beat up, particularly with an injury on Saturday to Lyndell Hudson Jr. "It's always tough," MacIntyre said of the injuries, "but the next man up gets a shot to show if he can play." - Miami Herald

  10/08/22 - Will RogersrSr/2025, Washington, 6-2, 207 (DS#17 QB) + More +

Will Rogers threw for three touchdowns and broke the Southeastern Conference record for career completions, Dillon Johnson rushed for 100 yards and two scores, and No. 23 Mississippi State beat Arkansas 40-17 on Saturday. Rogers was 31-of-48 passing for 395 yards and notched the record in the first quarter with the 922nd completion of his career, eclipsing the mark set by Georgia’s Aaron Murray in 52 games, Rogers has played in 28 games. Rogers connected with Caleb Ducking, Austin Williams and Jaden Walley, and the Bulldogs (5-1, 2-1 SEC) rushed for over 100 yards for the second straight week for the first time in the Mike Leach era. Johnson is the first player under Leach in Starkville to hit the century mark.

Arkansas played without starting quarterback KJ Jefferson, who was dealing with an unspecified injury. Malik Hornsby was 8-of-17 passing for 234 yards in Jefferson’s absence, with one touchdown and two interceptions. He also rushed for 114 yards on eight carries. MSU scored the first 14 points, but the Razorbacks (3-3, 1-3) hung aroound, trailing just 21-10 at the half thanks to a missed field goal and turnover on downs by Mississippi State’s offense late in the second quarter. MSU put the game away in the fourth quarter with back-to-back interceptions from Jackie Matthews and Emmanuel Forbes. The Razorbacks had 483 yards of offense but surrendered 568 to the Bulldogs. - Mississippi/AP College Football

Penix's injury history at Indiana is behind him now, and he is clearly the man in Washington. He has the Huskies undefeated and poised to make a run at the Pac-12 title and a place in the College Football Playoff. Washington's 25-point victory over Kent State, which played Georgia tough, in Week 1 looks better. Penix also led the Huskies to dismantle Michigan State and Stanford the past two weeks. He has thrown for 1,388 yards and 12 touchdowns and has only thrown one interception all season. I am not sure why the odds are not showing him any love. - The Athletic

  09/25/22 - Michael Penix Jr.rSr/2024, Washington, 6-2, 216 (DS#5 QB) + More +

Wayne Taulapapa rushed for a career-high 120 yards and one touchdown, Washington's defense sacked Stanford quarterback Tanner McKee eight times and forced two fumbles, and the 18th-ranked Huskies beat the Cardinal 40-22 on Saturday night. Playing as a ranked team for the first time this season, Washington (4-0, 1-0) used a stingy defense and a handful of big plays on offense to win its Pac-12 opener under new coach Kalen DeBoer. Huskies quarterback Michael Penix Jr. threw for 309 yards and second-half touchdowns of 30 yards to Rome Odunze and 21 yards to Giles Jackson on a screen pass. Odunze had eight catches for 161 yards, his first career game over 100 yards receiving. But Washington's defense deserved equal recognition for the constant pressure it was able to put on McKee. The Huskies sacked him six times in the first half.

Stanford lost its eighth straight conference game dating to last season, the longest skid under coach David Shaw. The Huskies have scored at least 39 points in all four games, and this time they did it without an otherworldly performance by Penix, who still managed to top 300 yards passing for the fourth straight game. Penix was 22 of 37. Will Nixon added a 3-yard touchdown run and Peyton Henry kicked four field goals. Taulapapa was a less-heralded offseason transfer for Washington but earned the starting nod at running back for a reason. He showed flashes in the first three games but found massive gaps to run through against the Cardinal, averaging 9.2 yards per carry. Taulapapa's longest run came midway through the second quarter when he scampered down the sideline for a 34-yard touchdown two plays after a Stanford turnover. It was the first 100-yard game of Taulapapa's career, both at Virginia and Washington. - Washington/AP College Football
