  09/13/25 - Tye EdwardsrSr/2027, Transfer, 6-2, 225 (DS#999 FB) + More +

Tye Edwards rushed for three touchdowns, including a 1-yarder in overtime to lift West Virginia to a 31-24 win over Pittsburgh on Saturday night in the Backyard Brawl. Nicco Marchiol, benched for five series in the second half, led West Virginia on a furious comeback. The Mountaineers scored 10 points in the final five minutes of regulation to send it to overtime, then Marchiol led the eight-play scoring drive on the first series of overtime. Pitt had the chance after Edwards' overtime score but went nowhere. Eli Holstein threw incomplete on fourth-and-20 to end the game. West Virginia (2-1) bounced back from a pitiful performance on the road a week ago at Ohio. West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez won in his first matchup with Pitt since 2007, when the Panthers prevailed 13-9 and denied the Mountaineers a trip to the BCS national championship game. He has said this game wouldn't erase any of the angst from that loss. But the result set off a celebration from the sellout crowd.

Pittsburgh (2-1) lost for the fourth straight time in Morgantown. Holstein brought Pitt back from a 7-3 halftime deficit with a short TD run and a 14-yard scoring toss to Raphael Williams Jr. for a 24-14 lead with 9:23 left in the fourth quarter. Marchiol then returned to the game to lead one drive that resulted in a field goal and, after West Virginia's defense forced a punt, the Mountaineers got the ball back at their 13 with under 3 minutes left. Marchiol led the Mountaineers down the field, hitting tight end Grayson Barnes with a 2-yard TD toss to tie the score at 24-24 with 11 seconds left. Edwards ran 25 times for 141 yards, including other TD runs of 12 and 1 yards. He got the bulk of the carries in place of Jahiem White, who was lost for the season a week ago with a knee injury. - West Virginia/AP College Football

Kelley threw for 105 yards and two scores with an interception and rushed for 101 yards and another TD. Kelly's 27-yard pass to Ashley gave Ball State (1-2) a 34-21 lead with 10 minutes left in the third quarter.

UNH (2-1) rallied behind two Nick Reed field goals, including a career-long 52-yarder, and Justice Akinmoladun's sack for a safety but the Wildcats couldn't get past midfield on their final drive. Matt Vezza was 25 of 44 for 249 yards passing and a TD and rushed for 78 yards and another score for New Hampshire, ranked No. 24 in the FCS coaches poll. Ball State led 28-21 at halftime after the teams combined for 521 of the game's 801 yards of offense. Ashley scored on 43- and 72-yard runs for a 21-14 lead. Vezza tied it with a 2-yard run with under two minutes left before Kelly threw to Kameron Anthony for a 10-yard score with 20 seconds remaining in the half.   Makenzie McGill II scored on a 3-yard run in overtime, giving him 102 yards and North Texas a 33-30 win over Western Michigan on Saturday. After the Broncos kicked a long field goal to start overtime, the Mean Green took advantage of two penalties that set up the winning first-and-goal run for McGill. That was the only time North Texas, despite gaining 100 yards more than Western Michigan, was in the lead. Both penalties, pass interference and unsportsmanlike conduct, were on Jarvarius Sims.

Drew Mestemaker was 18-of-33 passing for 224 yards for North Texas (2-0). He guided a pair of nine-play drives in the fourth quarter to force overtime. His 4-yard pass to Cameron Dormer ended a 65-yard drive that cut the deficit to 27-24 with 10:03 left in regulation. The Mean Green then went 68 yards for the tying field goal with 1:35 remaining. Brock Lowry passed for one touchdown and ran for two for the Broncos (0-2). Jalen Buckley ran for 112 yards and added a 17-yard scoring reception from Lowry. North Texas finished with 406 total yards and Western Michigan had 303, 216 on the ground. - North Texas/AP College Football

  03/10/23 - Isaiah PaulrSr/2025, Transfer, 6-1, 232 (DS#999 ILB) + More +

Two months after joining Washington State's football team, Isaiah Paul is heading back to the portal. The senior linebacker, who signed with WSU in early January, announced Wednesday over Twitter that he plans to reenter the NCAA transfer portal in May. Paul spent the past five years at Incarnate Word. The 6-foot-2, 230-pounder was a three-year starter at the FCS program in San Antonio - though injuries derailed his 2022 campaign. Paul recorded 137 tackles and 20 1/2 tackles for loss between 2019-22.

Paul was expected to compete for a significant playing role at WSU in 2023. The Cougars also added transfer LBs Devin Richardson (Texas) and Ahmad McCullough (Maryland). Those two will be in the mix for starting jobs along with WSU veteran Kyle Thornton and redshirt freshman Hudson Cedarland - one of the prized recruits in WSU's 2022 class. - Spokesman-Review

  02/12/23 - Joey YellenrSr/2025, Transfer, 6-3, 210 (DS#999 QB) + More +

That whistling in the 35 mph wind was Joey Yellen whipping another pass to a University of Hawaii receiver at the Ching Complex's football field. Six months after transferring from Pittsburgh and four months after ceding the starting quarterback's job, Yellen has impressed in the first four practices of the Rainbow Warriors' spring training. Head coach Timmy Chang has likened Yellen to Nick Rolovich, who rebounded from a difficult 2000 season to set several UH passing records in 2001.

"Rolo was one of the best quarterbacks who played here," Chang said of his former teammate. "If Rolo had another two years, three years or so, imagine what he would have done with this offense. I see Joey in (Rolovich). It's his frame (6 feet 3, 215 pounds). It's his demeanor. It's his ability to throw the ball, understand where the ball needs to go on time. He's not going to wow you with his athleticism, but he's going to distribute the ball, and that's what reminds me the most of Rolo." Brayden Schager is atop the six-quarterback depth chart this spring. But Chang, who will call the offensive plays this season, said there is talent - and competition - in the quarterback room. "Schager gets the No. 1 spot, but Joey's right there," Chang said. "He's competing. He's throwing the ball right underneath the chin (of a receiver). He's understanding the standard of distributing the ball. I love where he's at. He's in a good place. He's calmer, confident, and he understands." - Honolulu Advertiser
