Additionally, the 57-yard make ranks tied for the fourth-longest in MAC history. Overall, his 57-yard kick is the second-longest in the FBS this year. He is one of three kickers nationally to have made a pair of 50+ yard field goals in 2024, but the only one to make two in the same game. - MAC Football

Woody Marks scored on a 13-yard run with 8 seconds left to give No. 23 Southern California a 27-20 win over No. 13 LSU on Sunday night. Miller Moss passed for 378 yards and a touchdown and his 20-yard completion to Kyron Hudson and a subsequent targeting penalty on LSU with 18 seconds to play set up the winning score by Marks in the season opener for both teams. Moss outdueled LSU's Garrett Nussmeier, who completed 29 of 38 passes for 304 yards with two touchdowns and an interception on the final drive. Moss was similarly efficient in going 27 of 36 in a battle of QBs who waited their turns after sitting behind the two most recent Heisman Trophy winners, LSU's Jayden Daniels and USC's Caleb Williams.

USC, in its first season of Big Ten Conference play, sent a message with this victory in the teams' first meeting in 40 years that the Trojans could be a factor after going a disappointing 8-5 last year. And it came against a Southeastern Conference opponent hoping to show it belongs in the College Football Playoff. LSU will still have its chances to make that case, but this is the Tigers' third consecutive season-opening loss under coach Brian Kelly. LSU also had its four-game winning streak going back to last season snapped. The Tigers represented about 60% of the crowd, an Allegiant Stadium announced record gathering of 63,969 that sometimes felt like Baton Rouge West. There was some star power, too, with LSU greats Shaquille O'Neal and Daniels with his Heisman Trophy in tow. Former USC Heisman winners Marcus Allen and Matt Leinart also were on hand. Two tremendous catches helped define the first half. - AP College Football

Frank Peasant's 30-yard touchdown jaunt with 16 seconds left helped carry Middle Tennessee State past Tennessee Tech 32-25 in a season opener on Saturday night. The game didn't end until 1:18 a.m. EST due to weather delays. The Blue Raiders led 21-5 at halftime before the Golden Eagles scored three touchdowns and took a 25-24 lead when reserve quarterback Jordyn Potts threw a pair of touchdowns in the game's final minutes. Potts relieved injured starter Dylan Laible who departed in the first quarter.

Potts threw a 15-yarder to Ashton Maples capping an eight-play, 82-yard drive with 4:21 left. The Golden Eagles' defense forced a three-and-out, and Potts this time led a six-play, 57-yard drive resulting in a 13-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Yates with 1:06 left. MTSU countered when quarterback Nicholas Vattiato connected on pass plays of 14 and 26 yards to Omari Kelly. The 26-yarder occurred on fourth-and-5 at the Blue Raiders' 44-yard line. The play set up Peasant's game-scoring dash. Peasant ran for 49 yards and two touchdowns. His 3-yard plunge with 6:56 left in the first was the game's first score. - AP College Football

Kaidon Salter threw two touchdown passes, Quinton Cooley had 110 yards on the ground and Liberty defeated Campbell 41-24 on Saturday in the season opener for both teams. Campbell took a 10-7 lead early in the second quarter on a short field goal and a 36-yard touchdown pass from Chad Mascoe Jr. to Sincere Brown. Liberty tied it with a field goal then took the lead for good when Salter connected with Treon Sibley for a 70-yard touchdown to lead 17-10 at halftime. Sibley had five receptions for 109 yards.

Salter's second TD pass and short touchdown runs by Billy Lucas and Ryan Burger helped Liberty push its lead to 41-17 with about four minutes remaining in the game. Salter completed 16 of 23 passes for 242 yards. Mascoe was 10 of 17 passing for 170 yards. Brown had five receptions for 126 yards. Liberty has not lost a regular-season game under coach Jamey Chadwell, now in his second season. The Flames went 13-0 in 2023 before losing to Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl. Saturday's game was the debut of Braxton Harris, who was named interim coach of the Fighting Camels in April. - AP College Football

Virginia quarterback Anthony Colandrea threw for 297 yards and 2 touchdowns in a dominant 34-13 victory Saturday night over the University of Richmond in the season opener for both teams. The Cavaliers looked like they learned their lesson from last year's home-opening loss to James Madison. In that game, Virginia appeared to have the game in hand, but a weather delay shifted the momentum and led to a Dukes victory. Saturday night's game went into a weather delay late in the second quarter, with Virginia leading 20-7. When play resumed 2 hours and 17 minutes later, Virginia quickly scored a touchdown, and kept its foot on the gas through the third quarter before turning to clock-running mode.

Colandrea was given the fourth quarter off. Richmond's offensive line struggled to get any traction against the bigger, stronger UVA defenders. The Spiders kept the winner of their quarterback competition under wraps until game time, when sophomore Kyle Wickersham ran out to take the first snaps. He made a 5-yard scramble for the team's lone touchdown, but managed just 110 yards passing. Virginia will test itself against Wake Forest and Maryland in the next two weeks, and Colandrea showed growth that will be encouraging to the team's fanbase. He did not turn the ball over, and ran out of bounds or slid instead of exposing himself to big hits. - AP College Football

The Thundering Herd had 549 yards total offense and scored 21 fourth-quarter points in a game that endured a weather delay.
