  NOV 4 STATS FCS NATIONAL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Cecil Cherry, UT Martin, LB, Grad-Student, 6-0, 235, Frostproof, Florida,...Cherry, a grad transfer from Grambling State, came off the bench to record a season-high 14 tackles and five quarterback hurries as UT Martin beat Jacksonville State 22-17 to remain in first place in the Ohio Valley Conference. On JSU's final two drives, he had four tackles, three QB hurries, a tackle for loss and a half sack. He had one other tackle for loss in the Skyhawks' first win over JSU since 2013.   John Bachus III accounted for two touchdowns, Terry Williams scored on a 65-yard punt return and UT Martin held off Jacksonville State 22-17 on Saturday. Bachus was 18-of-32 passing for 245 yards, threw a touchdown pass and ran for a score from 10 yards out to lead the Skyhawks (6-3, 5-1 Ohio Valley Conference), who rebounded from a 17-10 loss at Southeast Missouri that snapped a four-game win streak. Zerrick Cooper threw a touchdown pass and ran for a score to lead Jacksonville State (6-4, 3-3). Williams scored with 24 seconds left in the third quarter, but the 2-point conversion failed to give UT Martin a 19-13 lead. Bryant Wallace's 37-yard field goal pulled the Gamecocks to 19-16, and Ryan Courtright's 18-yard field goal for the Skyhawks capped the scoring with 5:46 remaining.   John Bachus III threw a pair of touchdown passes and Peyton Logan ran for 109 yards to lead UT Martin to a 27-18 victory over Eastern Illinois on Saturday for its fourth straight win. Coach Jason Simpson collected is 85th win leading the Skyhawks, matching Bob Carroll for a program best. Eastern Illinois remains winless under first-year coach Adam Cushing. UT Martin (5-2, 4-0 Ohio Valley Conference) jumped out to a 21-11 halftime lead.

Bachus threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Terry Williams and a 6-yard score to Davin Dyal. D'Carrious Stephens scored on a 26-yard interception return. In the first quarter, Dytarious Johnson forced a fumble from Bachus. Raymond Crittenden recovered the ball and ran 51 yards into the end zone for the Panthers. Harry Woodbery was 26-of-50 passing for 287 yards with one touchdown pass and three interceptions for Eastern Illinois (0-8, 0-4).   OCT 14 OVC OFFENSIVE PLAYER & NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK: John Bachus III, QB, 6-2, 210, R-Fr., Pulaski, Tenn., UT Martin,...Bachus threw for five touchdown passes as UT Martin defeated Tennessee Tech 55-14 to improve to 3-0 in OVC play for the first time since 2006. The redshirt freshman completed 16-of-22 passes for 331 yards (and no interceptions), tallying career-highs in both yards and touchdown passes. He had touchdown passes of 22, 24, 73, 21 and 66 yards and completed passes to eight different receivers. He also carried the ball four times for 20 yards. Bachus ranks 25th nationally in completion percentage (63.3%). The junior connected from 45 yards in the first quarter and added a 30-yard field goal in the second quarter. He has not missed a field goal or PAT this season and has helped the Skyhawks to a 3-0 start in OVC play (its best since 2006).   Redshirt freshman John Bachus III threw for 331 yards and five touchdowns, both season highs, and UT Martin beat Tennessee Tech 55-14 on Saturday night. Colton Dowell had five receptions for 154 yards and two touchdowns, Kevin Butler added two TD catches and Peyton Logan had 107 yards rushing and a score on eight carries for UT Martin (4-2, 3-0 Ohio Valley Conference). Bachus hit Dowell for a 22-yard touchdown to open the scoring with 6:21 left in the first quarter and his 24-yard TD pass to Butler with 49 seconds left in the second quarter made it 27-0 at halftime. He threw scoring passes of 73 yards to Dowell, 21 yards to Butler and 66 yards to Marqwell Odom in the third quarter to push the lead to 48-0 going into the fourth. The Skyhawks held Tennessee Tech (4-3, 1-2) - which went into the game averaging 37.0 points per game (No. 20 nationally) - to its season low for points and outgained the Golden Eagles 553-261 in total yards.   Lamarcus Young's early 41-yard touchdown run sparked UT Martin to a 38-28 win over Eastern Kentucky on Saturday in an Ohio Valley Conference matchup. The Skyhawks (3-2, 2-0) trailed 7-0 late in the first quarter when Young broke downfield to even the score. Ryan Courtright's 22-yard field goal gave UT Martin a 10-7 edge, and a 9-yard touchdown run by Jaimiee Bowe stretched it to 17-7 with 1:27 left in the first half. Eastern Kentucky scored again just before halftime to close to 17-14.

UT Martin fell behind 21-17 midway through the third quarter, but quarterback John Bachus III answered with a short touchdown run to put the Skyhawks back on top for good. TJ Jefferson's 44-yard fumble recovery for a score made it 31-21 with 2:48 left in the third. Bachus had 167 yards passing for the Skyhawks. Peyton Logan ran for 112 yards and a touchdown. The redshirt freshman completed 26-of-40 passes for 312 yards and connected with Lamarcus Young on a 47-yard touchdown strike in the first quarter.

In the second quarter he added a 1-yard touchdown score that put the Skyhawks ahead 24-0; he finished the game with 33 yards on nine carries. Bachus tallied new career-highs in completions, attempts and yards in the victory.   John Bachus III threw for one touchdown and ran for another to stake Tennessee-Martin to a 24-0 first-half lead en route to a 40-7 win over Murray State in the Ohio Valley Conference opener for both schools Saturday night. After losing back-to-back games on the road to No. 11 Florida and Southern Illinois and coming off a bye week, the Skyhawks scored early on a 7-yard run by Terry Williams. Bachus hit Lamarcus Young for a 47-yard score and, following a Ryan Courtright 27-yard field goal, scored from a yard out to make it 24-0 with 6:11 to go in the first half. Preston Rice fired 28 yards to Rodney Castille to cut the Murray State deficit to 24-7 at intermission, but the Racers were shutout in the second half. Bachus completed 26 of 40 passes for 312 yards.   SEPT 2/WEEK 1 OVC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Wanya Moton, S, 6-1, 190, So., Murfreesboro, Tenn., UT Martin,...Moton had seven tackles and a pair of interceptions, one of which he returned 78 yards for a touchdown, as UT Martin topped Northwestern State 42-20 in its season-opener. His first interception came in the second quarter, stopping a drive at the UT Martin 36-yard line, as the Skyhawks went into the locker room trailing 20-14. After the Skyhawks had taken the lead in the third quarter, Moton picked off a pass with five minutes to play in the fourth quarter, returning it to pay dirt to put his team on top 35-20. Moton is one of three FCS players who had two interceptions in week one.   Payton Logan rushed for 149 yards and two scores and John Bachus III threw for two more touchdowns as UT Martin woke up in the second half to run past Northwestern State 42-20 on Thursday night. It was a tale of two halves as the Skyhawks trailed 20-14 at the break but dominated the second half 28-0 to win going away. Logan sealed the victory when he broke over right tackle for a 53-yard scoring run with 2:53 remaining for the final score. Shelton Eppler threw for 285 yards and three touchdowns in the first half as Northwestern State appeared in control going into the break before the Skyhawk defense closed the door in the final half. Wanya Moton picked off two Demon passes, returning one 78 yards for a score and a 35-20 lead with 5:06 left in the game. - AP College Football

  2019 ALL-OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE FOOTBALL TEAM (COACHES): DL - Julian Crutchfield, UT Martin,...Hailing from Lebanon, Tenn., Crutchfield picked up his third preseason honor after becoming a mainstay on the Skyhawk defensive line. Crutchfield finished last season with 41 tackles while creating havoc in the backfield with 9.0 tackles for loss totaling 36 yards - including a pair of sacks to earn All-OVC second team honors in 2018.

His 9.0 tackles for loss ranked 16th in the OVC while sitting third on the team. He tallied three games with five more tackles, including a season-high seven tackles against Austin Peay and No. 10 Jacksonville State.
