  2019 ALL-OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE SECOND TEAM (COACHES): TE - Colton Dowell, UT Martin,...Hailing from Lebanon, Tenn., Dowell posted arguably the biggest breakout season by a Skyhawk in several seasons. The pass-catching tight end ranked second on the team with 38 receptions for 765 yards and four touchdowns. The playmaker averaged 20.1 yards per reception while tallying 63.8 receiving yards per game. He tallied four 100-yard receiving contests against Tennessee Tech, Southeast Missouri, Jacksonville State and Austin Peay. Arguably his best game came against Tennessee Tech where he notched five receptions for 154 yards and two touchdowns – including a 73-yard score.   2019 ALL-OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE SECOND TEAM (COACHES): RB - Peyton Logan, UT Martin,...Logan was another Preseason All-OVC selection that lived up to the hype this season before missing the final three games of the season due to injury. A native of Horn Lake, Miss., Logan was in the midst of a breakout season in which he tallied 109 carries for 784 yards and six touchdowns. He averaged 87.1 yards per game while tallying four 100-yard rushing performance against Northwestern State (149), Eastern Kentucky (112), Tennessee Tech (107) and Eastern Illinois (109). He also tallied 11 receptions for 119 yards while returning five kickoffs for 108 yards, averaging 21.6 yards per kick return. Despite missing the final three games of the season, his 784 rushing yards still ranked second in the OVC.   2019 ALL-OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): RS - Terry Williams, UT Martin,...Hailed as one of the nation's most exciting playmakers, Williams left fans wanting more throughout the season every time he touched the ball. While he led the team with 58 receptions while tallying 581 yards and three touchdowns as a receiver, it was his ability on special teams that takes his game to another level. A native of Southaven, Miss., he tallied 22 punt returns for 397 yards, averaging 18.0 yards per return while ranking as the only player in the country (FCS or FBS) to return multiple punt returns for touchdowns. His 18.0 yards per punt return average ranked second nationally while also ranking 42nd nationally in kick returns (22.4 yards/return). He tallied punt return touchdowns against Northwestern State (55 yards) and Jacksonville State (65 yards) while also busting a season-long 71-yard return at Eastern Kentucky. A native of Starkville, Miss., Akins ranked second on the team and sixth in the OVC with 92 tackles. Widely known for his hard-hitting body tackles against the nation's elite, he tallied 5.5 tackles for loss while forcing two fumbles. He also recovered a pair of fumbles against Murray State and Austin Peay while notching an interception in the endzone against Eastern Illinois. He eclipsed double figures in the tackle column in three games against Florida, Southern Illinois and Tennessee State with a career-high 12 stops against the Salukis. - Tennessee-Martin Football

  2019 ALL-OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): LB - TJ Jefferson, UT Martin,...Known as the team's ultimate leader, Jefferson reached the pinnacle of postseason honors with a first-team recognition after an impressive season. The former walk-on turned captain and starter, played and started in all 12 games at two different linebacker positions. He led the team and ranked fifth in the league with 94 tackles on the season while recording 9.5 tackles for loss totaling 40 yards. His 4.5 sacks ranked tied for first on the team and eighth in the OVC. The Nashville, Tenn., native tallied a team-best 11 quarterback hurries while forcing and recovering a fumble - including a 44-yard return against Eastern Kentucky for a touchdown. Overall, he posted four games with 12 tackles against Northwestern State, Southern Illinois, Tennessee Tech and Tennessee State while tallying a career-high 2.5 sacks at Tennessee Tech. - Tennessee-Martin Football

  2019 OVC FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR (COACHES): John Bachus III (QB), UT Martin,...Bachus, a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award given to the FCS National Freshman of the Year, took over a team that was 2-9 overall (2-6 OVC) last year and started all 12 games in 2019 in helping UT Martin improve to 7-5 overall and 6-2 in the OVC (third place). Bachus ranked 39th nationally and first among freshmen in passing yards (2,549), 24th nationally (and fourth among freshmen) in passing yards per completion (13.56), 48th nationally (and fourth among freshmen) in passing touchdowns (18) and 57th nationally (and fifth among freshmen) in total offense (218.1 yards/game).

The redshirt freshman completed 188-of-332 passes (56.6%) for 18 touchdowns while also rushing for 93 net yards and three additional scores. Bachus, who was named OVC Newcomer of the Week four times and OVC Offensive Player of the Week twice during the season, completed 16-of-22 passes for 331 yards and five touchdowns in the team’s win over Tennessee Tech on October 12. Bachus is the second UT Martin player to be named OVC Freshman of the Year, joining running back Don Chapman who won the inaugural award in 2004. - Ohio Valley Football

  NOV 18 OVC NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK: John Bachus III, QB, 6-2, 210, R-Fr., Pulaski, Tenn., UT Martin,...Bachus completed 16-of-25 passes for 216 yards and three touchdowns as UT Martin topped Tennessee State 28-17 to finish the home portion of its schedule 5-0. The redshirt freshman had touchdown passes of seven, 27 and nine yards on the afternoon, with one coming in the first, one in the third and one in the fourth quarter. He also had a 39-yard completion to Colton Dowell. Bachus ranks 19th nationally in passing yards/completion (13.99). This marks the fourth time this season Bachus, a candidate for the Jerry Rice Award, has been named OVC Newcomer of the Week. Starting in all nine games, Bachus has led the team to six victories while positioning the Skyhawks into first place in the Ohio Valley Conference standings. The signal caller has completed 57.2 percent of his passes with 135 completions on 236 attempts while tallying 1,890 yards and 12 touchdowns through the air. The redshirt freshman completed 18-of-32 passes for 245 yards and a touchdown and rushed eight times for 23 yards and another score. Bachus completed three passes for over 25 yards including a 26-yard touchdown to Colton Dowell late in the second quarter.

His rushing touchdown came on a 10-yard run earlier in the second quarter to put UTM on the board. Bachus currently ranks 22nd nationally in passing yards per completion (14.0) It marks the second time this season he has been named OVC Offensive Player of the Week. It marked his second punt return for a touchdown this season, making him the only Division I player (FBS or FCS) with multiple punt return scores this season. For the game Williams averaged 28.3 yards on three punt returns and for the season he ranks fourth among FCS players with an 18.7 punt return average. Williams also caught seven passes for 52 yards to finish with 137 all-purpose yards. Two of his tackles were for loss and he had half a sack to go along with a game-high five quarterback hurries. With his team leading by five late in the game, he had four tackles, including a sack and tackle-for-loss, and three quarterback hurries on the Skyhawks final two defensive stands, both of which ended with Jacksonville State turning the ball over on downs. With the win the Skyhawks improved to 5-1 in OVC play. On JSU's final two drives, he had four tackles, three QB hurries, a tackle for loss and a half sack. He had one other tackle for loss in the Skyhawks' first win over JSU since 2013.   John Bachus III accounted for two touchdowns, Terry Williams scored on a 65-yard punt return and UT Martin held off Jacksonville State 22-17 on Saturday. Bachus was 18-of-32 passing for 245 yards, threw a touchdown pass and ran for a score from 10 yards out to lead the Skyhawks (6-3, 5-1 Ohio Valley Conference), who rebounded from a 17-10 loss at Southeast Missouri that snapped a four-game win streak. Zerrick Cooper threw a touchdown pass and ran for a score to lead Jacksonville State (6-4, 3-3). Williams scored with 24 seconds left in the third quarter, but the 2-point conversion failed to give UT Martin a 19-13 lead. Bryant Wallace's 37-yard field goal pulled the Gamecocks to 19-16, and Ryan Courtright's 18-yard field goal for the Skyhawks capped the scoring with 5:46 remaining.   John Bachus III threw a pair of touchdown passes and Peyton Logan ran for 109 yards to lead UT Martin to a 27-18 victory over Eastern Illinois on Saturday for its fourth straight win. Coach Jason Simpson collected is 85th win leading the Skyhawks, matching Bob Carroll for a program best. Eastern Illinois remains winless under first-year coach Adam Cushing. UT Martin (5-2, 4-0 Ohio Valley Conference) jumped out to a 21-11 halftime lead.

Bachus threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Terry Williams and a 6-yard score to Davin Dyal. D'Carrious Stephens scored on a 26-yard interception return. In the first quarter, Dytarious Johnson forced a fumble from Bachus. Raymond Crittenden recovered the ball and ran 51 yards into the end zone for the Panthers. Harry Woodbery was 26-of-50 passing for 287 yards with one touchdown pass and three interceptions for Eastern Illinois (0-8, 0-4). He had touchdown passes of 22, 24, 73, 21 and 66 yards and completed passes to eight different receivers. He also carried the ball four times for 20 yards.
