  WEEK 6 SOUTHLAND DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jaydon Southard, SFA - LB - Sr. - Wichita Falls, Texas (Iowa Park HS) - FCS National Defensive Player of the Week Southard matched his career high with 16 tackles, including 12 solo stops, in Stephen F. Austin's 31-17 win at UIW. Three of his tackles went for 19 yards in losses, including 1.5 sacks, and he also forced a fumble. Both his tackles for loss and sack totals marked new career bests. After never reaching double figures in tackles prior to this season, Southard has now done so four times in 2025 for the Lumberjacks. - Southland football

  WEEK 6 FCS NATIONAL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jaydon Southard, Stephen F. Austin, LB, Sr., 6-1, 225,...Southard matched his career high with 16 tackles, including 12 solos, in Stephen F. Austin's 31-17 win at UIW in the Southland Conference. Three of the tackles went for 19 yards in losses, including 1.5 sacks, and he also forced a fumble. Like his solo tackles, Southard's TFL and sack totals were career-best efforts. He had never reached double-figure tackles before this season, but he's done it four times for the Lumberjacks (4-2).   Kylon Harris caught two touchdown passes, Jerrell Wimbley rushed for 171 yards and a score and Stephen F. Austin beat McNeese 34-17 on Saturday night to kick off Southland Conference play. Sam Vidlak threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Blaine Green, and Harris grabbed a 14-yard TD throw to put SFA (3-2, 1-0) up 14-7 just before halftime. Vidlak connected with Harris with a 76-yard touchdown pass to start the third quarter.

Harris has 20 career touchdowns and moved into SFA's top 10 with more than 2,000 career yards receiving. Vidlak was 15 of 29 for 233 yards with three touchdown passes and moved into the program's top 10 in touchdowns passing. Tre'Vonte Citizen rushed for a 20-yard score for McNeese (1-4, 0-1). Logan Mauldin caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Jake Strong to cut the deficit 27-17. Strong threw for 214 yards. Wimbley scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter. - AP College Football

  WEEK 4 SOUTHLAND OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jerrell Wimbley, SFA – RB – Sr. – Houston, Texas (C.E. King HS),...Wimbley averaged 13 yards per carry as he totaled 130 yards on ten touches. He delivered five rushes of 10 or more yards including a long of 46 on SFA's second drive and a run of 22 yards early in the second quarter. Wimbley's 130 yards are the most by an SLC player against an FCS foe this season and the third-most in a game through five weeks of play. Honorable Mention: Jameson Garcia, UIW. - Southland Football

  Jerrell Wimbley rushed for 130 yards, and quarterback Sam Vidlak had 178 yards and two touchdowns in Stephen F. Austin's 35-17 win over Cal Poly on Saturday night. SFA (2-2) scored 21 points in the third quarter. Malachi Williams returned a 28-yard pick-6, Richard Reese scored on a 1-yard rush and Derrick Bohler scored on a 28-yard catch to extend SFA's lead to 35-10.

Quarterback Jackson Akins entered the game for Cal Poly (2-2) after starting quarterback Ty Diffenbach got injured on a QB keeper play. Akins threw for 182 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions for the Mustangs. Akins also led the team in rushing, with 36 yards. The Mustangs were leading in the second half, 10-7, after a 64-yard pass to Michael Briscoe. Briscoe had 140 yards on four catches.   Six different players scored first-half touchdowns in a 56-0 first half as Stephen F. Austin defeated Division II Sul Ross State 63-0 on Saturday night. Starting quarterback Sam Vidlak was 11-for-14 passing for 211 yards and two touchdowns for the Lumberjacks (1-2), before Gavin Rutherford took over and threw for 74 yards and a touchdown. Freshman JT Kitna also saw his first college action, completing one pass for 2 yards.

Anthony Williams had 74 rushing yards and a touchdown on 12 carries, Richard Reese had 66 yards and a touchdown on just four carries, including a 58-yard dash, and Jerrell Wimbley had 34 yards and two scores on seven attempts. Sul Ross State had-40 yards of total offense and three drives of more than three plays. Carlos Alvarado, a transfer from Texas State, was a perfect 9-for-9 on extra points. - AP College Football

  Sam Vidlak threw five touchdown passes in the first quarter, 10 players scored for Stephen F. Austin and the Lumberjacks routed NAIA foe North American University 77-0 in a season opener on Thursday night. SFA gained 371 yards in the first quarter and Vidlak was 7-for-7 passing for 264 yards. His five touchdowns went to Kylon Harris for 53 yards, Rohan Fluellen for 47 yards, Jordan Nabors for 61 yards, Chris Taylor for 15 yards and Blaine Green for 50 yards. The Lumberjacks scored five times on their first 11 plays and led 42-0 after one quarter. Vidlak, who formerly played at Boise State and Montana, finished 8-for-8 passing for 288 yards.

The Lumberjacks involved their running game more in the second quarter and still scored four touchdowns to lead 70-0 at halftime. They led in total offense 565 yards to 33 and 25-3 in first downs. The second half was reduced to two 5-minute quarters. Three SFA quarterbacks combined to go 14-for-15 for 383 yards with seven touchdowns. Qualan Jones had 121 yards rushing and Jaylen Jenkins scored twice on the ground. Dalton McElyea's 17-yard pass to Dax Bridges midway through the shortened fourth quarter was the only score of the second half.   2022 WAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Xavier Gipson, Sr., WR, Stephen F. Austin,...Gipson, a senior wide receiver, was the first repeat winner of the offensive player of the year award in the WAC since Boise State's Kellen Moore in 2009-10. Gipson became just the eighth player in league history to win top offensive player honors back-to-back, joining BYU's Virgil Carter (1965-66), Jim McMahon (1980-81), Steve Young (1982-83) and Ty Detmer (1990-91), TCU's LaDainian Tomlinson (1999-00), Hawai'i's Colt Brennan (2006-07) and Moore. Gipson led the WAC with 1,486 all-purpose yards, which included a conference-high 276 punt return yards and added 1,163 receiving yards to rank second in the league. Self completed 26-of-37 for 397 yards and two passing touchdowns, adding a 12-yard rushing touchdown with 2:43 to play to give the Lumberjacks their first lead of the day and clinch the 2022 WAC Football Championship. - WAC Football

  Trae Self scrambled 12 yards for the game-winning touchdown with 2:43 left to give Stephen F. Austin a 24-21 win over Abilene Christian Saturday and the Lumberjacks claimed the Western Athletic Conference championship. The Lumberjacks earned the outright conference title for the first time since 2010. Self finished 26 of 37 passing for 397 yards and two touchdowns for SFA (6-5, 3-2). The four-year starter surpassed 10,000 career passing yards in the game. Xavier Gipson had 11 catches for 213 yards and a touchdown. Gipson finished the regular season as the leading receiver in the WAC and entered the game ranked eighth in the FCS in receiving yards per game. Maverick McIvor was 25 of 38 passing for 318 yards and two touchdowns to lead Abilene Christian (7-4, 4-1). Colt Cooper pulled in two touchdown catches. - Stephen F. Austin/AP College Football

Austin (Oct. 31),...Gipson, a senior wide receiver and punt returner, enjoyed another impact game for SFA in a hard-luck defeat at the hands of Utah Tech on Oct. 29. Gipson registered 270 all-purpose yards on 11 total touches, which included 119 yards on three punt returns. Gipson scored his second punt return touchdown of the season after bringing a Utah Tech punt back 85 yards for a score in the fourth quarter. - WAC Football

  OCT 31 BIG 12 NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK: Richard Reese, BU, RB, Fr.,...Reese was once again a workhorse for the Bears in their 45-17 win at Texas Tech. He topped his career high with 36 carries, after setting his previous best just one week ago with 31 vs. Kansas, and ran for 148 yards and three TDs. It was Reese's third 100-plus yard game of the season and fourth multi-TD effort. He has 12 rushing touchdowns in 2022, which already ranks tied for seventh in a single season in program history. That mark is also good for seventh nationally. Since 2014, only one other Bear has rushed for as many TDs as Reese (Abram Smith, 12 in 2021). He now sits just 90 yards shy of BU's freshman rushing record. Reese is second nationally among all freshmen in rushing yards (791) and rushing TDs (12). - Big 12 Football
