The Bellville High School product stepped right into the backfield and led t he team with 190 carries for 962 yards and 14 TDs, averaging 5.1 yards per carry and 80.2 yards per game. He ranks second in the nation among freshmen in rushing TDs and third among freshmen in rushing yards. He owns three 100-yard rushing performances a nd twice had games with three rushing TDs. OCT 31 BIG 12 NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK: Richard Reese, BU, RB, Fr.,...Reese was once again a workhorse for the Bears in their 45-17 win at Texas Tech. He topped his career high with 36 carries, after setting his previous best just one week ago with 31 vs. Ka nsas, and ran for 148 yards and three TDs. It was Reese's third 100-plus yard game of the season and fourth multi-TD effort. He has 12 rushing touchdowns in 2022, which already ranks tied for seventh in a single season in program history. That mark is al so good for seventh nationally. Since 2014, only one other Bear has rushed for as many TDs as Reese (Abram Smith, 12 in 2021). He now sits just 90 yards shy of BU's freshman rushing record. Reese is second nationally among all freshmen in rushing yards ( 791) and rushing TDs (12). - Big 12 Football

Freshman Richard Reese ran for 148 yards and three touchdowns, AJ McCarty returned an interception for a score and Baylor beat Texas Tech 45-17 on Saturday night. Second among NCAA freshmen in yards rushing coming in, Reese had 53 of the 75 yards on a dr ive to his tiebreaking 1-yard TD in the second quarter as Baylor (5-3, 3-2 Big 12) dominated time of possession. Baylor ended a 10-game losing streak in Lubbock while handing Texas Tech (4-4, 2-3) its first home loss under coach Joey McGuire, the lifelon g Texan who was a Baylor assistant the past five seasons. On a night Texas Tech celebrated star Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes as its eighth ring of honor member, the Red Raiders ended up throwing five interceptions while trying all of their top three QBs.Tyler Shough entered trailing 31-17 in the fourth quarter for the first time since injuring his shoulder as the opening day starter, and McCarty stepped in front of his first pass and ran untouched 18 yards down the sideline. Freshman B ehren Morton was 4 of 17 with two interceptions and three sacks after a pick in the first minute of the second half set up Blake Shapen's 9-yard TD pass to Hal Presley for a 24-3 Baylor lead. Morton responded with two touchdowns, including his 8-yard run on fourth-and-7 to get Texas Tech within 24-17 after a fumble by Reese. The Red Raiders were up to four interceptions — three from Morton and another from Donovan Smith on one of his two passes when McGuire turned to Shough, who the coach said would b e available next week. Reese's third TD was a 1-yard plunge to cap an 11-play, 75-yard drive after the Red Raiders had pulled within seven. Morton finished 11 of 33 for 152 yards and three interceptions. True freshman Richard Reese ran for 186 yards and two touchdowns, including a late game-clincher as the Baylor Bears held on to beat Kansas 35-23 on Saturday for their first victory in nearly a month. Baylor (4-3, 2-2 Big 12) jumped out to a 14-0 lead le ss than five minutes into the game matching former Top 25 teams that had both lost their previous two games, and led 28-3 at halftime. The Jayhawks (5-3, 2-3) got within 28-23 when quarterback Jason Bean scrambled 4 yards for a touchdown with 6 1/2 minut es left. That ended a 93-yard drive after Baylor was stopped on fourth-and-1, and included completions of 29 and 47 yards by Bean. On the ensuing Baylor drive, Reese had a 14-yard catch and a 37-yard run before his 2-yard TD run with 2 1/2 minutes left o n the last of his 31 carries.Kansas is still without standout quarterback Jalon Daniels, who missed his second game in a row since injuring his right (throwing) shoulder after being hit late in the first half of a loss to TCU on Oct. 8. Bean was 1 6 of 27 for 232 yards and a touchdown. Bears quarterback Blake Shapen left in the third quarter of their loss at West Virginia nine days earlier after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit. He was 17-of-26 passing for 164 yards with a touchdown Saturday. But he had three turnovers, two interceptions and a fumble. Shapen had only three interceptions in the first six games, but his two picks included one inside the Jayhawks 5 with only 2 seconds left in the first half. He fumbled in the third quarter when being s acked by defensive end Jereme Robinson, who picked up the ball and returned it 49 yards to set up Devin Neal's 2-yard TD run. The Bears were ranked 17th after a win at Iowa State on Sept. 24, but had since lost 36-25 at home Oklahoma State on Oct. 1, the n had an open date before the Thursday night game at West Virginia. SEPT 19 BIG 12 NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK: Baylor's Freshman Richard Reese rushed for 156 yards on 19 carries (8.2 avg) and scored three touchdowns, all of which were career highs, in Baylor's 42-7 win over Texas State. It was BU's first three-TD rushing perfo rmance since Abram Smith did so vs. BYU last season. Reese's efforts helped the Bears total 293 yards on the ground, their highest output of the year. He also caught one pass out of the backfield for a 17-yard reception. Reese is now tied for the Big 12 lead with five rushing TDs, ranks second in the Big 12 in yards per carry (6.97) and places fifth in rushing yards (237). - Big 12 Football
