Memphis junior tight end Tyce Daniel has entered the transfer portal, the USA Today Network has learned. He's the second tight end to depart the Tigers in as many days. A source told The Commercial Appeal that Daniel opted out prior to the Montgomery Bowl. The source was granted anonymity because a formal announcement has not been made. Daniel appeared in eight games this past season and 20 over the past three seasons with two career catches for 12 yards. He signed with the Tigers as a three-star recruit in 2017. - Memphis Commercial Appeal

FIU quarterback Stone Norton, who was named Mr. Tennessee in 2018 after throwing for more than 3,000 yards as a high school senior, has entered his name in the transfer portal and is already back in Nashville, awaiting his next opportunity. Norton's biggest FIU moment came in the season-opener. He came in off the bench in the second half, rallying FIU from a 10-point deficit before the Panthers lost 36-34 to Liberty. He completed 9-of-13 passes for 120 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in what was likely the best performance by an FIU quarterback all season. However, after getting uneven playing time the rest of the season, he opted out. Chris Norton, Stone's father, flew down to Miami on Monday and then helped his son pack up and head home. They made the non-stop trip to Nashville in 14 hours, and it was "bittersweet", Chris Norton said.

"We envisioned Stone would be at FIU four or five years," his father said. "After fall camp, we though he had won the job. And after [the Liberty game], we thought the same thing. "It's a tough deal, frustrating...He's got a couple of weeks to make a decision [on a new college], and with the recruiting restrictions [on visiting campuses due to the pandemic], it will be a leap of faith." Norton's transfer is just the latest disappointment for an FIU pandemic-shortened season that concluded with a 0-5 record. FIU hadn't gone winless since 2006, when coach Don Strock - the former Dolphins quarterback - went 0-12. - Miami Herald

Kholbe Coleman, a senior linebacker for the Bowling Green Falcons, played very well in 2019. He is looking forward to even better things this year. Coleman had 10 starts and played in all 12 games last season earning third-team All-Mid-American Conference honors. He was eighth in the MAC and led the Falcons with 103 total tackles, including 40 solo tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks. He also had two quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one pass break-up. In the upset 20-7 win over Toledo last season, Coleman cleaned up 13 tackles. This season Coleman has set several goals, including earning first-team All-MAC honors, getting some nationwide attention, beating Toledo and winning a MAC championship. "I have looked on to improve the speed of the game, knowing the ins and outs of offenses and knowing what they are going to run before they run it," Coleman said. "I am really trying to master my technique and play faster. "As a team we have to play fast and we have got to play physical. That's what we can hang our hat on. When we do that, we tend to win games," he added. "If we allow ourselves to play fast most likely that defense is going to be good." - Sentinel Tribune

Memphis junior defensive back La'Andre Thomas is currently not with the team, head coach Ryan Silverfield said Thursday on Sports56. Thomas wasn't on the depth chart for the Tigers' season opener against Arkansas State and isn't on the roster ahead of their game at SMU Saturday. He started all 14 games last season at safety and was expected to be a starter this season. Silverfield didn't give a reason for Thomas' absence or if he expects him to return but said the two had conversations before the season began. "Anybody who's not with us I'm not going to comment," Silverfield said on "Middays with Greg & Eli" . "A lot of people have certain things going on in their personal life and like I've always told these young men, unless you want to comment about it, it's not my duty to put what's going on in their personal lives out there." Thomas had 63 tackles last season, fourth on the team. It was a strong comeback effort after he only played four games in 2018 due to a shoulder injury. - Memphis Commercial Appeal
