  06/14/21 - Luke McCaffreyrJr/2024, Rice, 6-2, 198 (DS#21 WR) + More +

Former Nebraska quarterback Luke McCaffrey is on the move again. The now-former Louisville player announced on Twitter on Monday that he will be transferring to Rice to restart his college football journey. The news comes less than a week after Louisville head coach Scott Satterfield confirmed McCaffrey had left the program, in part because he wanted to be the starting QB. Rice, a member of Conference USA, finished 2-3 last season. The Owls are led by head coach Mike Bloomgren, who has a three-year record of 7-23 (6-15) at the school. McCaffrey appeared in seven games for Nebraska last season as a redshirt freshman - starting two. He threw for 466 yards and one touchdown (against six picks), rushed for 364 yards and added three more scores on the ground. His first career start came Nov. 14 against Penn State in a 30-23 triumph. The following week, he threw three picks in a crushing 41-23 loss to Illinois. - - Lincoln Journal Star

  06/08/21 - Luke McCaffreyrJr/2024, Rice, 6-2, 198 (DS#21 WR) + More +

Louisville quarterback Luke McCaffrey is going back into the transfer portal. The Nebraska transfer, who just recently arrived on campus after committing in February, is leaving the Cardinals coach Scott Satterfield said on the radio this morning with Drew Deener. McCaffrey, the younger brother of Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey, was important depth at quarterback for a room that lacked it. It was unlikely that he would pass returning starter Malik Cunningham and backup Evan Conley on the depth chart. A sought-after four-star dual-threat quarterback in the 2019 recruiting cycle, the No. 257 overall recruit, McCaffrey went to Nebraska and redshirted his freshman year. As a true freshman, he played in four games before redshirting and completed 9-of-12 passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 166 yards on 24 carries. - Courier Journal

  05/09/21 - JT DanielsrSr/2024, Rice, 6-2, 237 (DS#999 QB) + More +

After a bizarre season at the quarterback spot, redshirt junior JT Daniels could be a source of stability for a program entering the fall with national championship aspirations. Daniels passed for 401 yards and four touchdowns in his Georgia debut against Mississippi State after he was cleared from knee surgery. Georgia went 4-0 with Daniels at the helm. He passed for 1,243 yards with 10 touchdowns and 2 interceptions while completing 67.2% of his passes. Georgia averaged 8.3 more points per game (37.3) and 103.2 more yards per game (486) behind Daniels than it did under Stetson Bennett and D'Wan Mathis. - Northwest Arkansas Times

  02/28/21 - Uriah WestrSr/2023, Rice, 5-11, 240 (DS#25 FB) + More +

Zion Webb threw for 125 yards and a touchdown and Uriah West ran for 106 yards and a touchdown and Jacksonville State beat Tennessee Tech 27-10 on Sunday. Jacksonville State (4-1, 1-0 Ohio Valley Conference) kicked off the FCS spring season picking right up where it left off in the fall. Following a 41-24 loss at FBS-member Florida State in October - a game in which the Gamecocks led 14-0 after the first quarter - Jacksonville State followed with wins against Mercer, North Alabama and Florida International. Sunday, the 16th-ranked Gamecocks came out against Tennessee Tech (1-1, 1-1) and immediately controlled the line of scrimmage. They held the Golden Eagles to four yards in three plays on their opening drive to force a punt. Jacksonville State then held the ball for a 14-play, 53-yard drive that ended when Josh Samuel ran it in from two yards out. - Jacksonville State/AP College Football

  01/26/21 - Luke McCaffreyrJr/2024, Rice, 6-2, 198 (DS#21 WR) + More +

Nebraska backup quarterback Luke McCaffrey has entered the transfer portal after starting two games and appearing in five others last season, the school's athletic department confirmed Tuesday. The brother of NFL star Christian McCaffrey nearly beat out Adrian Martinez for the Cornhuskers' starting job last fall, and coach Scott Frost in November called the redshirt freshman "the future" at quarterback. McCaffrey replaced an ineffective Martinez as the starter for the third game, a win over Penn State, but committed four turnovers in a loss to Illinois the next week. Martinez returned as starter for the final four games as the Huskers finished 3-5. McCaffrey completed 48 of 76 passes for 466 yards and one touchdown and rushed 65 times for 364 yards and three TDs. He was on the sideline in street clothes for the final game at Rutgers. - AP College Football

  01/05/21 - JT DanielsrSr/2024, Rice, 6-2, 237 (DS#999 QB) + More +

JT Daniels decided to clean up some of the wishy-washiness left over from the previous day. A day after posting "to be continued..." on his Instagram account, the Georgia quarterback used his Twitter feed to inform the Bulldog Nation he is indeed committing to playing for them in 2021. A third-year sophomore and therefore draft-eligible, there was some speculation that Daniels might test the NFL after just one season at UGA. Tuesday’s message ended any such conjecture. "Found my new home," Daniels wrote. "Now we got unfinished business."

Daniels’ news came in the middle of a Tuesday afternoon in which there were several roster updates in what’s expected to be a busy month of ingress and egress. The Bulldogs got some extremely good news from senior defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt, who announced he intended to return for another season, and junior running back James Cook, who decided he would return rather than test the NFL draft as an underclassman. - The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

  01/05/21 - JT DanielsrSr/2024, Rice, 6-2, 237 (DS#999 QB) + More +

A few days after wearing the Georgia uniform for the final time in the 2020 season, fan-favorite quarterback J.T. Daniels got cryptic on Instagram. It's a good kind of cryptic for fans of the Bulldogs. Daniels, who transferred to the program from Southern Cal in the offseason, is eligible for the NFL Draft as a redshirt sophomore. He has dodged nearly every question regarding his future in Athens, but Monday's social media post provided a hint.

Nothing has been said definitively, but if Daniels' words on Instagram hold the assumed meeting, No. 18 might be suiting up in Athens for another year. Daniels played in four games in his first season at Georgia. He replaced previous starter Stetson Bennett against Mississippi State and finished with 1,231 yards, 10 touchdowns and two interceptions. His campaign finished with 392 yards and a touchdown toss to sophomore receiver George Pickens in the Peach Bowl victory over Cincinnati. - Macon Telegraph

Daniels proved this since taking over the starting quarterback job against Mississippi State. But against one of the nation's best defenses in Cincinnati, he cemented his position as Georgia's 2021 starter. He connected on 26-of-38 passes for 392 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the Peach Bowl. With the game on the line down the stretch, he calmly led the Bulldogs down the field for the game-winning field goal. After the game, Daniels said he feels like he's been a Bulldog for years. In reality, he arrived on campus in June and went through an offseason wrecked by COVID-19. Now, Daniels prepares for an offseason where he will be the unquestioned starter. He will be able to focus on learning Todd Monken's offense and developing chemistry with all of his receivers. - Macon Telegraph
