  NOV 4 CAA FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Malik Gavek, So., S, Rhode Island (Cranston, R.I./Cranston East),...In just his second start, Gavek recorded a career-high 14 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries and returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown in Rhode Island's 42-14 victory over Merrimack. The interception return gave the Rams a 21-7 lead early in the third quarter and both fumble recoveries, one of which he forced, came inside the URI 5-yard line, stopping scoring drives.   Vito Priore threw for 246 yards and three touchdowns to lead Rhode Island to just its second win of the year, a 42-14 victory over Merrimack in a nonconference game on Saturday. The Rams beat Brown 31-28 a month ago for their first win of the season before dropping three straight games. Rhode Island (2-7, 0-5) will return to Northeast Conference play next Saturday at William & Mary (2-6, 0-4). Priore was 16-of-25 passing with one interception. Aaron Parker hauled in eight of those passes for 126 yards and a touchdown. The Rams forced five turnovers with Malik Gavek returning an interception 30 yards for a score to take a 21-7 lead early in the third quarter. Gavek also had a career-high 14 total tackles, well above his previous high of five in one game, and forced a fumble. Momodou Mbye and Rashod Dickerson also each picked off a Christian Carter pass.   OCT 7 CAA FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Vito Priore, Jr., QB, Rhode Island (Atlanta, Ga./Georgia Prep),...Priore completed 31-of-44 passes for 389 yards and three touchdowns as Rhode Island rallied to beat Brown, 31-28, to capture the Governor's Cup. With his team trailing in the fourth quarter, the junior accounted for all 63 yards in the game-winning drive, capped by a 14-yard scoring pass to Aaron Parker with 5:43 to play.   Vito Priore threw a touchdown strike to Aaron Parker late in the fourth quarter that gave Rhode Island the edge it needed to defeat Brown 31-28 on Saturday. The Rams (1-4) trailed by four when Priore capped a late 63-yard drive with a 14-yard scoring pass to Parker for a 31-28 lead with 5:43 left to play. Following the kickoff, the defense held Brown to 14 yards and a single first down, forced a punt and Rhode Island ran out the clock.

Priore finished with a career-high 389 yards passing with three touchdowns. Zoe Bryant Jr. ran for 63 yards and a score, Isaiah Coulter had 171 yards receiving and a score and Parker had 87 yards receiving and a pair of touchdowns. Rhode Island led 17-14 at halftime and stretched it to 24-14 in the third quarter on Bryant's 7-yard scoring run. But the Bears (1-2) answered with two touchdown runs by Allen Smith early in the fourth to move ahead 28-24 with 8:20 to play.   SEPT 9 CAA FOOTBALL CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Aaron Parker, Sr., WR, Rhode Island (Prince George’s Co., Md./Gwynn Park),...Parker set career-highs with 12 receptions for 227 yards and a TD in Rhode Island’s triple OT setback to Delaware. It was the most catches by a URI player since 1994 and the 5th-most receiving yards in school history. Nine of his 12 grabs went for a first down and his 24-yard TD catch gave the Rams a 19-14 lead in the fourth quarter. The 227 yards are the 2nd-most by any player in FCS in 2019. - CAA Football

He earned second team all-conference honors as a punt returner after he ranked second in the league in punt return average at 11.1 yards per return. He had a 69-yard punt return for a touchdown in the win over Albany - for which he was the CAA Special Teams Player of the Week - and his 234 punt return yards were the fourth highest single-season total in program history. Dorsey was dynamic in the kick return game as well, ranking second in the conference and ninth in the country with 28.4 yards per return.   2019 PRESEASON CAA FOOTBALL ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM (MEDIA/COACHES): Kyle Murphy, Rhode Island, Sr., OL,...Murphy dominated the opposition at his left tackle spot, where he started 10 games last season. The only game he did not start was against William & Mary, when he moved to center while Dwayne Scott recovered from an injury. Despite playing in heavy rain conditions, Murphy did not have any ball control issues in the center-quarterback exchange and Rhody had no turnovers en route to a 21-10 victory over the Tribe. Murphy was a major reason the Rams averaged 121.6 rushing yards per game, their best average since 2013. Rhody also ran for 15 touchdowns, the team's highest total in 11 seasons.
