  Theo Day threw five touchdown passes and ran for another score, leading Northern Iowa's 58-14 rout of South Dakota on Saturday. The six total touchdowns - all in the first half - were Day's career high. He completed 21 of 30 passes for 280 yards. His touchdown passes were spread among five receivers. Sergio Morancy had four catches for 135 yards, including a 62-yard touchdown. The Panthers (6-5, 5-3 Missouri Valley) had 593 yards of total offense. South Dakota (3-8, 2-6) managed only 236 yards of total offense.   NOV 7 MISSOURI VALLEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE: DB Korby Sander, UNI - Despite coming up on the losing end, Korby Sander notched a career-high 14 tackles in UNI's 31-28 home loss to No. 1 South Dakota State. Recording four solo tackles, Sander played a key role in slowing the Jackrabbit offense, which had scored 49 points in its previous two games. Day is the first UNI quarterback to throw 5 touchdowns in a single game since at least 2005, one shy of tying the program's all-time single game record. The Canton, Mich. native connected with 4 different receivers on his 5 scoring opportunities, including the ultimate game-winning score on a 5-yard pass to Desmond Hutson with just under 6 minutes to play. The 330-yard passing performance is his third of the season and fourth of his career.   Theo Day threw five touchdown passes and Northern Iowa held off Southern Illinois 37-36 on Saturday. Day's fifth TD throw - 5 yards to Desmond Hutson - ended the scoring with 5:55 remaining in the fourth quarter. Jake Baumgarte missed a 41-yard field goal for Southern Illinois with 47 seconds remaining. The Salukis got the ball back and left the ball at the UNI 1-yard line after a 42-yard desperation pass from Nic Baker to Jathen Jones.

The teams combined for 1,001 yards of total offense, 815 passing. Day was 27-of-32 passing for 330 yards and Baker threw for 485 yards, completing 34 of 48 passes including three touchdowns. Sam Schnee had eight receptions for 96 yards for Northern Iowa (5-4, 4-2 Missouri Valley Football Conference) and Hutson caught two passes, both for short touchdowns.   OCT 24 MISSOURI VALLEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE: DL Cordarrius Bailey, UNI - Bailey made his biggest impact as a Panther with a pair of sacks and a forced fumble in UNI's 41-20 win over Missouri State. The former Iowa State defensive lineman's hit and forced fumble of MSU quarterback Jason Shelley was the first of his career. Bailey also recorded his first two career sacks in Saturday's win that saw the Panther defense notch a season-high 5 sacks, and hold one of MVFC's top offenses to just 221 total yards.
