  11/14/20 - Terry WilsonrSr/2022, New Mexico, 6-2, 204 (DS#44 QB) + More +

Kentucky quarterback Terry Wilson accounted for three touchdowns, Chris Rodriguez rushed for two scores including a 74-yarder before the Wildcats withstood Vanderbilt's late rally to win 38-35 Saturday and end a two-game losing streak. Rested from a bye and with Wilson back from a one-game absence because of a wrist injury, the Wildcats (3-4, 3-4 Southeastern Conference) moved the ball at will against the Commodores (0-6, 0-6) with five TDs and a field goal on its first seven possessions. Wilson sandwiched a 32-yard score in the first half between TD passes to tight ends Justin Rigg (15 yards) and Keaton Upshaw (21). Wilson completed 13 of 15 passes for 110 yards and rushed seven times for 83. Rodriguez rushed 13 times for a career-high 149 yards with TDs of 3 and 74 yards, the last providing a 17-point lead midway through the fourth quarter. Chance Poore, playing in place of Matt Ruffolo, kicked a 28-yard field goal. - AP College Football

  10/20/20 - Terry WilsonrSr/2022, New Mexico, 6-2, 204 (DS#44 QB) + More +

As a runner, Wilson is one of Kentucky's best big-play threats. As a passer, he and a group of inconsistent receivers remain very much remain a work in progress. Wilson's statistics at Tennessee could have been even better if not for a touchdown pass that was dropped by sophomore tight end Keaton Upshaw and a deep pass down the sideline to senior wide receiver Josh Ali that was overturned on replay review. Even after those miscues, Wilson bounced back to lead Kentucky on an 11-play, 76-yard touchdown drive on its first possession of the third quarter. During that drive, he completed 3 of 4 passes for 31 yards, including a perfect pass to Allen Dailey for a touchdown on third-and-goal from the 1-yard line.

"We've got to help out the quarterback," Stoops said. "That (Upshaw drop) should have been a touchdown pass, but then it puts a little bit of pressure on you...Then we came right back and completed some and got some momentum going. I thought it was really important." With drops remaining a problem for the receivers and Wilson yet to show the type of touch needed to trust calling more than a few deep passes per game, UK offensive coordinator Eddie Gran rarely asks Wilson to take over games through the air. - Courier Journal

  10/16/20 - Eric CuffeerSr/2022, New Mexico, 5-11, 191 (DS#999 CB) + More +

Redshirt junior Eric Cuffee, a 6-foot-1, 191-pound defensive back who started his college career at Texas, has entered the transfer portal, Gonzales confirmed. Cuffee, who saw some time as a wide receiver during the spring, suffered an Achilles injury recently and would not have played this season anyway, said Gonzales. Cuffee is the eighth player to leave the program since coach Bob Davie was let go following last season. - Albuquerque Journal

  10/15/20 - Miles KendrickrSr/2023, New Mexico, 5-10, 205 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Miles Kendrick will start at quarterback for against WVU, with all indications that the junior will receive every opportunity to hold that role from the opening kickoff to the final whistle. "We gave Miles Kendrick the nod, we told him he's our guy this week," Dearmon said. "We named him a captain because of the way that he practiced last week. He's doing a great job. It's not that the other two are not doing a good job, it's just that Miles Kendrick has earned a spot this week, so we're going to go with Miles Kendrick." Senior Thomas MacVittie, out with a shoulder injury since the Jayhawks' season opener, has returned and is a "full-go" at practice. True freshman Jalon Daniels, meanwhile, appears to still be limited from an injury sustained in the team's last contest, a 47-7 defeat to Oklahoma State on Oct. 3. Dearmon said that, in his ideal world, he would "like to play one" quarterback, though he noted none of the three signal callers have locked themselves into the starting job. - Topeka Capital Journal

  10/15/20 - Terry WilsonrSr/2022, New Mexico, 6-2, 204 (DS#44 QB) + More +

One week after Kentucky's senior quarterback played the best game of his UK career (completing 14 of 18 passes; running for 129 yards and three touchdowns) vs. Mississippi, the Oklahoma City product came back with a lackluster showing (eight of 20 passing; 50 yards rushing) against Mississippi State. To have a shot at winning at Tennessee, Kentucky needs the better version of Wilson. - Herald Leader

  09/23/20 - Terry WilsonrSr/2022, New Mexico, 6-2, 204 (DS#44 QB) + More +

The Kentucky starting quarterback returns after missing all but two games last season after suffering a torn patellar tendon in his left knee. Whether Wilson can improve on his 12-3 record as a UK starter may depend on how much faith he has in his rehabbed knee and how quickly he is able to shed the rust from missing last year's final 11 games. - Herald Leader

Having several weeks of additional preparation before the Cats' first game should be a huge benefit to Wilson, Stoops said, but he has looked a lot like his former self through three practices. His comfort level in the pocket is good. Stoops is quick to blow his whistle on quarterback runs, but..."(When) he's pulling it down, he's like a bolt again, just like he used to be," Stoops said. "When he pulls it down, he can really run and hurt some people. He has a good feel for that...He looks really good early in camp. It's only been three practices, but he looks really good." - Herald Leader

  07/24/20 - Patrick PeekrSr/2022, New Mexico, 5-10, 192 (DS#68 SS) + More +

Citing the rise of positive COVID-19 cases among young people in the state, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on Tuesday sent a letter to the leadership of the University of New Mexico and New Mexico State University strongly urging both to suspend contact sports this fall, including football and soccer. In the letter reviewed Tuesday by the Journal, Lujan Grisham, who earlier this month ordered the New Mexico Activities Association to postpone all fall contact sports at the high school level until 2021, is now urging the governor-appointed regents and university leadership at UNM and NMSU to take similar steps. The letter states it is "critical that you postpone collegiate athletics in this moment of escalating danger," saying there is potential they could be resumed in late 2020 or early 2021. - Albuquerque Journal

One hundred percent. That's where Terry Wilson plans to be, health-wise, whenever the University of Kentucky takes the field for its first practice of fall camp, regardless of when that might occur given the uncertainty surrounding college football because of the COVID-19 pandemic. If things ramp up around the start of August as usual, Wilson has every intention of being out there with dozens of other Wildcats eager to chase a fifth straight bowl appearance. "We don't know what date, but I've been putting in so much work just to be able to get back running and do all the little things," Wilson said in a recent phone interview with the Herald-Leader. "I've put in so much work and my confidence level is raising. There's no doubt in my mind that I'll be 100 percent ready for the season right before camp."

There was a time not all that long ago that Wilson feared 100 percent was off the table. In the immediate aftermath of a knee injury that sidelined UK's starting quarterback for the final 11 games of the team's 2019 campaign, Wilson wondered whether he'd even be able to play football again. His injury - a tear of the patellar tendon in his left leg, which resulted from a horse-collar tackle during the third quarter of UK's game against Eastern Michigan last season - occurs at less than a third of the rate as tears of the anterior cruciate ligament, but recoveries following surgery for patellar tears have become more commonplace in recent years. - Herald Leader

  04/30/20 - Terry WilsonrSr/2022, New Mexico, 6-2, 204 (DS#44 QB) + More +

Kentucky football's first battle of the 2020 season is not against Eastern Michigan or even rival Louisville. It is apparently against the SEC Network. On Wednesday, the network tweeted a video that appeared to mock UK quarterback Terry Wilson. The tweet was later removed but not before several members of UK program, including coach Mark Stoops and Wilson had responded. "The tweet was in poor taste and was removed swiftly," an SEC Network spokeswoman said in a statement provided to the Courier Journal. "We've reached out to Kentucky and are managing this internally."

The tweet included a video of a montage of plays of Wilson being sacked with audio from a popular YouTube video titled "Back it up Terry." In the YouTube video, someone off camera yells at a man in a wheelchair to "back it up, Terry" after some fireworks are set off next to his chair. The Network deleted the tweet after Kentucky fans, including Kentucky Sports Radio host Matt Jones who has more 200,000 followers, began criticizing it. Deleting the tweet was not enough to escape notice of the Kentucky football team though. Wilson tweeted, "Y'all wait and see what happens when I touch that field again. Trust me." - Courier Journal

  04/08/20 - James LewisrSr/2022, New Mexico, 5-11, 207 (DS#999 OLB) + More +

The buzz surrounding the University of New Mexico football program upon the hiring of coach Danny Gonzales produced excitement for several returning players, including James Lewis. A 5-foot-11, 215-pound linebacker, Lewis has found new life with a new coach. He got lost in the mix last year when the Lobos went 2-10, leading to a coaching change after Bob Davie's ouster. Lewis began to feel the energy and took to Twitter after Gonzales' hire. "I will be the best Linebacker in the Mountain West this year," Lewis tweeted on Feb. 6. The Lobos will need that type of swagger, especially at the linebacker position, which lost two key players, Alex Hart and Alexander "Moana" Vainikolo, to exhausted eligibility.

Hart was, well, the heart and soul of UNM's defense and led the Lobos with 82 tackles. Vainikolo was No. 2 in tackles with 76 and he led UNM with 11.5 tackles for losses. Lewis finished with four tackles, but he believes his playing time will increase this season. Before the coronavirus pandemic ended all team activities this spring, Lewis was making plays in practice and excelling in the weight room under the instruction of strength and conditioning coach Jimmy Carson. Lewis said the workouts reminded him of the training he put in at Oklahoma State, where he began his college career before going to Coffeyville Junior College in Kansas and then transferring to UNM last year. - Albuquerque Journal

  03/08/20 - Terry WilsonrSr/2022, New Mexico, 6-2, 204 (DS#44 QB) + More +

During UK's allotted practice periods, Wilson is throwing the ball around and taking as many mental reps as possible with his fellow quarterbacks. That extra work is on top of class time, his regular strength and conditioning training as well as the rehab he's doing to rebuild his quad, the area most affected by the tear. The 6-foot-3 signal-caller has bulked up since the start of last season; he says he's at 215 pounds, about 12 pounds heavier than his listed weight entering the 2019 campaign. He stepped on a scale recently and was shocked to see that number. "Coach (Corey Edmond) has been doing a good job trying to get me ready, getting my lower half stronger and my upper body stronger on top of rehab," Wilson said. "I've been putting in some work." Kentucky's 2020 season opener is scheduled for Sept. 5 against, ironically, Eastern Michigan. Whether or not Wilson is healthy enough to start that game, there will be plenty of nervous energy coursing through his veins: Aug. 30, the Monday of that same week, is the scheduled due date for his first child. - Herald Leader
