  02/28/22 - Joey NoblerSr/2022, New Mexico, 6-2, 240 (DS#65 OLB) + More +

2021 ALL-MOUNTAIN WEST HONORABLE MENTION (COACHES): Joey Noble, DL,...While no Lobo made the first or second team, a case can certainly be made that Noble should have been somewhere among the eight defensive linemen on the first and second teams. Noble recorded 18.5 tackles for loss which is 10th all-time at UNM and tied for second in the Mountain West. The 18.5 TFLs also is tied for fourth in the country in the FBS. His 72 tackles were the most for any defensive linemen in the Mountain West as Noble led a defense that showed tremendous statistical improvement, ranking 49th in total defense at 363.1 yards allowed per game, better than the 447.1 yards allowed in 2020 (101st) and nearly a 122-yard improvement from the 485.7 allowed in 2019 (129th). - New Mexico Football

  12/20/21 - Tyler KiehnerSr/2026, New Mexico, 6-3, 276 (DS#999 DT) + More +

When Danny Gonzales was hired as University of New Mexico football coach in December of 2019 he tried to recruit former Los Lunas standout Tyler Kiehne to the Lobos, but Gonzales was a little late as Kiehne had already committed to UCLA. However, Gonzales was able to lure him back "home," after Kiehne recently entered the transfer portal. Kienhe, a 6-foot-3, 250-pound defensive lineman, said on Twitter on Tuesday night that he is transferring to UNM. He has four years of eligibility remaining after he did not see game action with the Bruins this past season. He was rated as a three-star recruit by 247sports.com, ESPN, and Rivals.com as a Los Lunas senior. - Albuquerque Journal

  12/20/21 - Miles KendrickrSr/2023, New Mexico, 5-10, 205 (DS#999 QB) + More +

The Kansas football program's quarterback depth for 2022 took a hit when two reserves - Miles Kendrick and Conrad Hawley - decided to leave via the transfer portal. KU head coach Lance Leipold confirmed Wednesday during his early signing period press conference that both QBs are moving on. Leipold said their departure was one of the factors in KU recruiting and signing Class of 2022 quarterback Ethan Vasko, out of Chesapeake, Virginia. A redshirt senior for the Jayhawks in 2021, Kendrick could have potentially used the NCAA's 2020 Covid waiver for an extra year of eligibility to remain at KU, if that was a scenario both he and the coaching staff wanted to pursue. - Lawrence Journal World

Terry Wilson passed for 385 yards and his third touchdown pass of the game - a 58-yarder to Mannie Logan-Greene - powered New Mexico to a 34-23 victory over in-state rival New Mexico State on Saturday night. The hookup was the only touchdown of the second half as the defense for each team held tight in red-zone situations. Leading 24-20 in the third quarter, the Lobos (2-0) twice drove inside the 10 and came away with only a field goal and a seven-point lead.

New Mexico State (0-2) then drove to inside the Lobos 20 but had to settle for a field goal of their own and a 27-23 deficit. Wilson's throw to Logan-Greene early in the fourth quarter gave the Lobos a two-score lead they would not relinquish. In addition to Wilson's 385 yards through the air, the Lobos rushed for 178 yards for a total of 563. Bobby Cole had 107 yards rushing and one touchdown. The Lobos were penalized 12 times for 111 yards. The Aggies managed 263 yards. Dino Maldonado threw for 203 yards and two touchdowns. - New Mexico/AP College Football

  08/24/21 - Terry WilsonrSr/2022, New Mexico, 6-2, 204 (DS#44 QB) + More +

Quarterback Terry Wilson, a senior transfer from Kentucky, won the University of New Mexico starting job that most everyone thought he would, UNM coach Danny Gonzales told his team on Tuesday before the Lobos' afternoon practice. The Lobos begin their 2021 season Sept. 2 at home vs. Houston Baptist. Not long after Wilson entered the transfer portal after going 17-8 at Kentucky, the Lobos set their focus on the quarterback because Gonzales and his staff sought a signal caller with experience after New Mexico's 2-5 2020 season. UNM offensive coordinator Derek Warehime helped with making a connection with Wilson, who played for Warehime's father, Nick, at Del City High School in Oklahoma.

Gonzales also wanted a winner. Wilson, in 2018 as a redshirt sophomore, led the Wildcats to their first 10-win season since 1977. That season featured a 27-16 Wildcats win at Florida for the first time since 1986, and ended with a 27-24 win over Penn State in the Citrus Bowl. "His experience from being a 25-game starter in Division I football really had a big hand on that (decision)," Gonzales told the media after practice. "I think he has a really good presence in the huddle. The guys seem to follow and we seem to click a little bit. "I think we have some depth at quarterback that's really exciting," the second-year head coach added. "But I think Terry, he's what we're looking for. He has experience at this level and it's kind of showing in the first two weeks of fall camp." - Albuquerque Journal
