Three Louisiana Tech senior football players decided last week forego the remainder of their careers in Ruston and enter their names in the 2021 NFL Draft. During his Zoom teleconference Tuesday, Tech head football coach Skip Holtz said while starting le ft tackle Donavaughn Campbell, wide receiver Adrian Hardy and running back Justin Henderson told him of their intentions prior to them announcing their departure from the program, he said he didn't agree with all three leaving before the 2020 season wrap s up."They all three informed me of their decision. They came to me and told me this is where they are," Holtz said. "They're all seniors. They're all big boys and they need to make their own decision. I told them I didn't necessarily agree with i t, but I wasn't there to argue with them. If they felt like that was in their best interest, then I would respect it. I would support it. "I asked them to explain to me why. I understand why they made their decision. I don't agree with all of them, but i t's not my decision. It's their decision and we're going to react and respond to them with the players that are on this roster that want to play and represent Louisiana Tech." - Monroe News Star

You can't get too caught up in the talk," he said. "I just work every day, that's really it." As Louisiana Tech navigates a three-week stretch where it hasn't played a game due to COVID-19 related issues either within the program or within opposing teams, three seniors have now decided to move on. Bulldog senior running back Justin Henderson is t he latest to announce his intention to forego the remainder of the 2020 season and enter his name into the 2021 NFL Draft process. Left tackle Donavaughn Campbell and wide receiver Adrian Hardy both entered their names in the Draft earlier this week. Hen derson released a statement on his Twitter page, citing the uncertainty of if Tech will be able to play any more games as well as his own personal recovery from testing positive for COVID-19.Henderson had a stellar junior campaign in 2019, rushing for more than 1,000 yards and 15 touchdowns, but has struggled to get his feet under him in 2020. He started the year as the sure-fire starter at running back but as the season has progressed, the position went to more of a tandem approach with fellow b ack Israel Tucker. In seven games, the 5-10, 218-pound bruising back has 75 carries for 252 yards, averaging just 36 yards per game, and along with two scores. - Monroe News Star

For the second time this season, Louisiana Tech has lost its starting left tackle. Donavaughn Campbell announced Monday afternoon his intention to forego the remainder of his senior season and enter his name in the 2021 NFL Draft. Tech has three schedule d games left on its 2020 season, including the cancellation of its game against Louisiana-Monroe in Shreveport that was supposed to happen this weekend. Campbell, who was set to be the starting right guard for the Bulldogs after transferring from LSU as a graduate transfer last offseason, took over the left tackle position at the beginning on this year after former starter Willie Allen missed the first few games before opting out and transferring to Michigan in October. Skip Holtz has called Campbell "a special talent" and the 6-5, 353-pound lineman started six games at left tackle this season, the one game he missed he was out due to COVID-19 related issues. While he's played at tackle this season, the senior projects to play at guard in the NFL. - Mo nroe News Star

After some issues securing the football, Marcus Williams Jr. put together a flawless performance. The senior running back had 103 yards, a total that included his 48-yard touchdown on which he split through a big hole then shook off tackles. Williams had a 39-yard run against Arkansas State a week ago. What looked like a breakaway touchdown became a turnover as a defender knocked the ball loose from behind. And in the season opener against Charlotte on Sept. 12, Williams Jr. lost the ball on a run in fr ont of the end zone. Clark said Williams refocused his efforts this week on protecting the football. "He had a great week of practice, and that's what I told him," Clark said. "I said you're not practicing like you have in the past and it's showing up on the field. And he came back and really busted his tail this week. "I'm so proud of the way he came back and responded." - Winston-Salem Journal

It may be time to anoint freshman Cedric Woods as a gamechanger. Matching up with some of the better wide receivers in C-USA in the first two league games, including UTEP's duo of senior Justin Garrett and sophomore Jacob Cowing, Woods held his own. Wood s allowed four of six passes completed thrown his way but he prevented the big play from happening as UTEP had multiple drives where it could've taken the lead. Woods' interception was one of the clutch plays for the Bulldogs with 7:04 left. Hardison loa ded up to take a deep shot with his team trailing 21-17, but the Carroll product went up and snatched the pass out of the air. "Cedric is loud with his play and I'm proud of the way he's stepped in. We signed (junior college) players, transfers, uppercla ssmen to come in and help with depth in our young secondary," Holtz said. "But it's been a freshman from Monroe that's wowed everybody." - Monroe News Star

Holtz had one word when asked to describe Donavaughn Campbell: "Talent." Starting tailback Justin Henderson has said that big guy was "going to be something to reckon with." After spending four years in a backup role at LSU appearing in 15 games, the 6-6 , 353-pound behemoth made an immediate impact for the Bulldogs up front. During fall camp, he's taken reps at three different spots along the offensive line, but right guard looks to be the position he'll play. Holtz has raved about Campbell's athleticis m and how quickly he's picked up on Louisiana Tech's playbook. - Monroe News Star

Louisiana Tech's rising senior running back has fought something much harder, eight months removed from claiming the Independence Bowl Offensive MVP last December. Complacency can drag college football players down, regardless of what position they play, and Henderson set out over the offseason with that mentality, shaping how he trained and what he dug into while away from the Tech football facility. "Just working on stuff that I don't think I need work on," the running back and Lake Wales, Florida, na tive said. "I work on it so I don't ever get complacent with myself." After opening up the 2019 season buried on the depth chart, Henderson ascended to the starting tailback role, with some thanks to some injuries, a few games into the year. The 5- 10, 218-pound, stout, bruising back who also possesses deceptive speed seized the opportunity and became a 1,000-yard rusher, running for 1,062 yards and 15 touchdowns. He capped his junior campaign with a career-high 22 carries, amassing 95 yards in the 14-0 bowl game win over the Miami Hurricanes. He finished second in Conference USA Offensive MVP voting behind his teammates and former Louisiana Tech quarterback J'Mar Smith last season and was second-team All-C-USA. "It wasn't surprising for me. I'm n ot trying to sound too cocky, but I knew I could do it," Henderson said. "It was just the time and matter of me getting out there and being consistent in doing it. I just believed in myself, thanked God for the opportunity I got and made the best of it. Hats off to (Tech running back Israel Tucker) because he really helped me through that, too. As a group, we prepared each other for that moment." - The News-Star
