Kentucky football's 2021 roster will feature a returning All-American. Right tackle Darian Kinnard announced Monday he will return to school for his senior season instead of entering the NFL draft. A former U.S. Army All-American recruit, Kinnard was a pivotal piece of the offensive line that helped pave the way for a UK offense that ranked fifth in the SEC in rushing yards per game (187.7). A third-team All-American according to the Associated Press, Kinnard has played in 32 games across the last three seasons with 24 consecutive starts at tackle. He graded out at 88% in 10 games this season with 40 knockdown blocks and 138 blocks at the point of attack, according to a UK news release. - Courier Journal

They're taking advantage of an additional year of eligibility extended to all players by the NCAA in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Safety Davonte Robinson, a graduate of Henry Clay High School, also officially announced that he would return, though his account is private.   01/03/21 - Kenneth HorseyrSr/2024, Kentucky, 6-4, 313 (DS#42 OG) + More +

2020 MAYO CLINIC NATIONAL COMEBACK PLAYER OF THE YEAR WINNER: Kentucky offensive lineman Kenneth Horsey,...Horsey, who hails from Sanford, Florida, has a remarkable comeback story. In the spring of 2018, before he was to arrive at Kentucky for his freshman season, he was complaining of a pain in his side. His parents rushed him to the emergency room where doctors ultimately found a growth on one of his heart valves. He went through open-heart surgery on April 8, 2018 and was even told by a few doctors that football was over. However, Horsey would not be deterred.

He came to Kentucky and redshirted the 2018 season with a goal of earning a starting spot on Kentucky's offensive line, affectionately known as the "Big Blue Wall." In 2019, he saw action in four games and continued to train and prepare his body for the rigors of the Southeastern Conference. Since his surgery in 2018, he has lost 50 pounds and because of his hard work and dedication, has earned the starting left guard spot on the "Big Blue Wall." Even a broken left hand, which required surgery during pre-season camp, did not get in the way. He started in eight games played this season, helping the Wildcats rank fifth in the Southeastern Conference in rushing offense (187.4). - Kentucky Football

  01/02/21 - Asim RoserSr/2021, Kentucky, 6-1, 215 (DS#32 RB) + More +

A.J. Rose ran for a career-high 148 yards, Chris Rodriguez added 84 yards and two scores and Kentucky held off No. 24 North Carolina State 23-21 in a chippy TaxSlayer Gator Bowl on Saturday. Christopher Dunn missed two field goals for the Wolfpack (8-4), who trailed 16-14 late when Bailey Hockman threw his third interception of the game. Rodriguez scored on the ensuing play, going nearly untouched for 26 yards.

NC State got a final chance after Jordan Houston scored with 1:10 remaining. But Allen Dailey recovered Dunn's onside kick, and the Wildcats (5-6) ran out the clock. Coach Mark Stoops got a Gatorade bath following the team's third straight bowl victory, which ended a tumultuous season that included the loss of offensive line coach John Schlarman. - AP College Football

  12/29/20 - Darian KinnardSr/2022, Kentucky, 6-5, 328 (DS#6 OG) + More +

Kinnard will play in this weekend's bowl game but is mulling a decision on whether to enter the NFL Draft. He was one of five underclassmen (the maximum allowed) on whose behalf head coach Mark Stoops solicited pre-draft evaluations from the league, and those official evaluations have not yet been sent back. UK and Kinnard remain in a stage of information-gathering at this point in the process.

"Darian's been very thorough," Stoops said Monday. "He's been trying to talk to as many people as he can. I've tried to get him as much information as I can...I believe Darian will lean heavily on that (NFL) information. I'm not sure. We've had talks. I'm not gonna constantly try to persuade Darian one way or another. My job is to get as much actual facts that I can from real people, from NFL people, and not people just telling him everything he wants to hear, because that's one of the problems that happens with juniors." - Herald Leader

Chris Rodriguez Jr. rushed for three touchdowns, Terry Wilson and A.J. Rose each rushed for one, and Kentucky rolled South Carolina 41-18 Saturday night in the regular season finale for both schools. Looking to halt a two-game slide and remain in consideration for the postseason, the Wildcats (4-6, 4-6 Southeastern Conference) scored on five of their first seven possessions to lead 27-3 at halftime. Their highest first-half output this season was aided by 10 points off two of their three takeaways, including two fumble recoveries by Jordan Wright.

Rodriguez returned from a two-game absence to rush for first-half TDs of 1 and 2 yards around Rose's 8-yard score before sealing the rout with a 79-yard burst down the left side with 4:56 remaining. Wilson added a 1-yard TD run early in the third quarter as the Wildcats outgained the Gamecocks (2-8, 2-8) 492-404. Wilson, the senior quarterback, finished 17 of 26 passing for 201 yards and rushed for 46 to break 1,000 career. Rodriguez had 139 yards on 14 carries and Rose 101 on 14 carries as Kentucky dealt South Carolina its sixth consecutive loss. - Kentucky/AP College Football

  12/02/20 - *Kelvin JosephrSo/2021, Kentucky, 6-0, 197 (DS#6 CB) + More +

The Kentucky football team did not quite make it to the end of the season without a player opting out. Third-year sophomore cornerback Kelvin Joseph tweeted Monday evening he is opting out of the rest of UK's season to prepare for the NFL draft. "Growing up in North Baton Rouge, not many have had the opportunity that I have to play in the NFL," Joseph tweeted. "My family struggled but still managed to raise a successful young Black man. I am taking this opportunity to focus on preparing for the NFL draft." A former top-50 recruit, Joseph transferred to Kentucky from LSU prior to the 2019 season. He sat out last season per NCAA transfer rules then made his debut as Kentucky's starting cornerback this fall.

Joseph leads Kentucky's team with four interceptions but has also drawn significant criticism for several careless penalties, including a personal foul for Saturday's game at Florida when he shoved a Florida player after the play was finished. Earlier Monday, UK coach Mark Stoops said Joseph was still working to understand the culture of Kentucky's program. "Kelvin is a competitor," Stoops said. "He understands once you talk to him and get him on the side and talk to him. He's very competitive in games but some of it is absolutely unacceptable. You know, like the one play on Saturday, there's just no excuses. You can't have it, it's totally unacceptable, and it will be addressed." - Courier Journal
