  11/07/25 - Zach CalzadarSr/2026, Kentucky, 6-4, 233 (DS#57 QB) + More +

Kentucky quarterback Zach Calzada apologized Friday for sending a video to someone on social media in which he boasted about the amount of NIL money he has received from the Wildcats this season. The video, which was posted to X by a different person, showed Calzada counting a large stack of $100 bills. Calzada, who turns 25 on Saturday, said he sent the video to someone who had apparently criticized his play this season. In the video, Calzada tells the fan, "Hey, what you need to do, Garrett, is your ass needs to stop hatin' and go get you some money. But since you ain't got nothing, you go ahead and you can count mine." "Let's count," Calzada said, as he fanned the $100 bills. "Don't lose count, Garrett," Calzada continued. "Straight hundreds." A Kentucky spokesman told the Lexington Herald-Leader on Friday, "Zach has taken responsibility for his actions. He has done the right thing and apologized. Now, it's time to move forward." Calzada, who is playing his seventh season of college football, started the first two games for the Wildcats in 2025. He was ineffective, completing 47.2% of his attempts for 234 yards with zero touchdowns and one interception. He injured his throwing shoulder in the fourth quarter of a 30-23 loss to Ole Miss on Sept. 6. - ESPN College Football

  11/01/25 - Kendrick LawSr/2026, Kentucky, 5-11, 205 (DS#58 WR) + More +

Kentucky used a seven-sack gem to end a four-game skid. The Wildcats harassed quarterbacks Ashton Daniels and Jackson Arnold all night, allowing Auburn just one trip to the red zone in a 10-3 victory over the Tigers on Saturday night that raised more questions about coach Hugh Freeze's future on the Plains. Auburn (3-5, 1-5 SEC) has lost five of six. It was Kentucky's first win against Auburn (4-5, 1-5 since 2009. The Wildcats had lost 19 of their previous 20 in the series. "I was emotional walking off that field because of the pride that I feel for this team," Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said. "It's been hard. I acknowledge that, but these guys have not flinched. I know the results aren't always there, but I know in my heart that these guys are getting better." Both offenses struggled, with the score tied 3-3 at halftime. But the Wildcats opened the second half with a 75-yard drive that ended with a 13-yard touchdown pass from Cutter Boley to Kendrick Law, giving them a cushion they were able to sustain - thanks to a relentless defense.

Boley finished with 161 yards passing, a touchdown and two interceptions. Seth McGowan ran for 53 yards. Daniels threw for 59 yards and ran for 57 more in his first start for the Tigers and was replaced briefly in the fourth quarter by Arnold, who was 2-of-3 passing for 15 yards. Both of them were under duress all night. "At the end of the day, I'm frustrated, too," Freeze said. "We all know that when we sign up for this. We accept it. I love what we're doing here, but we haven't gotten the results." Freeze now occupies one of the hottest seats in college football following his third consecutive loss at Jordan-Hare Stadium. He hasn't recorded a winning season at Auburn in three seasons, and the noise surrounding his potential firing keeps getting louder. - Kentucky/AP College Football

  09/14/25 - CJ Baxter Jr.rSo/2028, Kentucky, 6-1, 227 (DS#25 RB) + More +

Texas running back CJ Baxter, the Longhorns' leading rusher, was injured on the first play of the game against UTEP and did not return. Baxter, who leads the team with 104 yards on 24 carries, limped off after carrying the ball on the first play of the game and was able to walk to the locker room on his own.

Texas was also missing running back Quintrevion Wisner for the second game in a row due to injury. The Longhorns managed to pull out a victory despite some struggles on offense, beating UTEP 27-10. Baxter, who was the No. 30 overall recruit in the 2023 ESPN 300, was expected to be a major contributor to the program, but he has been plagued by injuries. In August 2024, he tore the lateral collateral and posterior cruciate ligaments in his right leg during practice and had to undergo season-ending surgery. - AP College Football

  09/14/25 - Seth McGowanrSr/2026, Kentucky, 6-0, 215 (DS#15 RB) + More +

Seth McGowan rushed for 104 yards and three touchdowns, Cutter Boley threw two touchdown passes in his first start of the season, and Kentucky to a 48-23 win over Eastern Michigan on Saturday night. Boley replaced Zach Calzada, who started Kentucky's first two games but injured his right shoulder late in the fourth quarter of last Saturday's 30-23 loss to No. 17 Mississippi. Boley was 12-of-21 passing for 240 and threw touchdowns of 3 and 4 yards to tight ends Willie Rodriquez and Josh Kattus. "We had a lot of fun out there tonight," Boley said. "I've prepared every week as if I'm the starter, and I've just maxed out my preparation to make sure I'm as comfortable as I can be when I get in there."

Noah Kim kept the Eagles (0-3) close for a half. He threw for 330 yards, including a 64-yard touchdown to Terry Lockett Jr. with 1:36 left in the first half and rushed for a 5-yard score with 58 seconds left in the game. Boley's previous start was in last year's finale against Louisville, a 41-14 loss where he was intercepted twice and left the game with a head injury. The sophomore from Lexington responded with a solid performance, not taking a sack and completing passes to seven different receivers. "I thought he did a really good job for his second start. I thought his awareness was pretty good and did a good job of managing the game," Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said. - Kentucky/AP College Football

Seth McGowan scored on a 3-yard run with less than two minutes to play to rally New Mexico State to a 23-16 victory over FCS-member Southeast Missouri State on Saturday night in the Aggies season opener. McGowan also scored the first touchdown for New Mexico State on a 14-yard run early in the second quarter. He finished with 87 yards on 11 carries. Paxton DeLaurent threw a 51-yard scoring strike to Dorian Anderson with 2:03 left in the first quarter to give the Redhawks (1-1) a 7-0 lead. McGowan tied the game with his first scoring run and Southeast Missouri State's DC Pippin and the Aggies' Abraham Montano traded field goals to send the game to halftime all even at 10-10.

Pippin booted a 53-yard field goal for the only score of the third quarter to put the Redhawks up 13-10 and he pushed the advantage to six with a 48-yarder 4 seconds into the fourth quarter. Montano connected on a 51-yarder to pull New Mexico State within a point with 6:07 left. McGowan's go-ahead score came with 1:57 remaining. Parker Awad ran it in for the 2-point conversion. DeLaurent completed 27 of 45 passes for 295 yards with one interception. Anderson finished with six catches for 115 yards. Awad totaled 37 yards on 5-for-17 passing with one pick. - AP College Football

  09/01/24 - Brock VandagriffrSr/2026, Kentucky, 6-3, 217 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Brock Vandagriff emerged from a two-hour-plus lightning delay to throw three touchdown passes in his Kentucky debut to lead a 31-0 opening-game shutout of Southern Miss on Saturday night in a game that was called for good with 9:56 remaining in the third quarter after a second delay. Lightning in the area delayed the scheduled 7:45 p.m. start to 10:05 p.m., and the Georgia transfer took charge to throw for 169 yards and two 12-yard scores to Barion Brown in the first half and a five-yard score to Jordan Dingle in the third before the second lightning delay early Sunday morning. A release stated that the termination was "by mutual agreement of the participating institutions as permitted by NCAA rules" and considered final and complete.

Tate Rodemaker threw for 126 yards for the Golden Eagles along with two interceptions, with one ending their best scoring chance when Kentucky's JQ Hardaway picked off a tipped pass in the end zone with 13:37 left in the first half. Vandagriff completed passes to five different receivers, including Dane Key, who had three catches for 60 yards and North Texas transfer Ja'Mori Maclin, who had two catches for 66 yards. - AP College Football

Zach Calzada threw two touchdown passes and Dekalon Taylor ran for two scores as Incarnate Word rolled to a 28-7 win over Northern Colorado in a season opener on Saturday night. A mainstay in the FCS Top 25 poll for 39-straight weeks, the Cardinals forced a pair of fumbles and picked off two Peter Costelli passes. Incarnate Word took the lead on its opening series when Taylor broke for a 27-yard touchdown run. The Bears answered on a 58-yard touchdown run by Vann Schield and the game was tied at 7 after one quarter.

Calzada gave the Cardinals a 14-7 lead at intermission by hitting Jalen Waithall from 46-yards out, then hit Logan Compton with a 13-yard touchdown to start the third quarter. Taylor wrapped up the scoring, capping a 13-play, 86-yard drive with a 1-yard run midway through the third. Calzada completed 21 of his 34 pass attempts for 205 yards with an interception.   03/07/23 - Devin LearyrSr/2024, Kentucky, 6-1, 215 (DS#15 QB) + More +

New Kentucky football quarterback Devin Leary was a full participant in the first day of spring practice Monday as he works his way back from a torn pectoral muscle that ended his 2022 season after six games at N.C. State. "I know he was on a pitch count," Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops said. "But the way we rotate quarterbacks and have depth, it didn't affect the way I saw practice." Leary's availability for spring practice is a significant boost for a Wildcat offense that has to replace likely top-10 NFL Draft pick Will Levis at quarterback and bounce back from a disappointing 2022 season.

When last fully healthy in 2021, Leary threw 35 touchdowns and just five interceptions to earn a spot as one of five finalists for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, which goes to college football's top quarterback. Leary was ranked as the top available quarterback in the transfer portal when he committed to Kentucky in December. Now, Leary can work on building chemistry with a group of talented but still young receivers led by sophomores Barion Brown and Dane Key. Offensive coordinator Liam Coen, who returned to Lexington after one year as the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams, will have his projected starting quarterback available as he works to teach his scheme to those young playmakers this spring. "Devin is just waiting to lead," Stoops said. "What I mean by waiting is he's earning it and he's doing it respectfully. He can take over a room in five minutes, but he knows that it's about going out and proving it day in and day out and not forcing that...I think it's very important to just be authentic, be who you are but also lead and find your voice in the right time and the right moment." - Herald Leader

  03/06/23 - JQ HardawaySr/2026, Kentucky, 6-3, 186 (DS#38 CB) + More +

Former four-star recruit Jonquis "JQ" Hardaway played in 11 games for Cincinnati at a freshman, totaling seven tackles and one sack. Both of Kentucky's starters at the position are gone from last season with Carrington Valentine and Keidron Smith preparing for the NFL draft. Junior Andru Phillips has to be considered the early favorite for one of the starting jobs after he started the Music City Bowl against Iowa following Valentine's decision to opt out of the game, but sophomores Maxwell Hairston and Jordan Robinson also received praise from coaches in pre-bowl practices.

Kentucky could start a transfer at cornerback for the seventh time in eight years thanks to the additions of Cincinnati transfer JQ Hardaway and Ohio State transfer Jantzen Dunn. At 6-foot-3, Hardaway brings the size Stoops has coveted at the position. He is also more experienced than Dunn, who played primarily on special teams at Ohio State and missed significant time due to injury. - Herald Leader
