  10/11/21 - Octavious OxendinerSr/2025, Kentucky, 6-2, 277 (DS#91 DT) + More +

Kentucky defensive tackle Octavious Oxendine will miss the rest of the season with a lower leg injury sustained in the No. 11 Wildcats' 42-21 win over LSU. Coach Mark Stoops wasn't more specific about Oxendine's injury on Monday but called it a “big loss” considering Kentucky (6-0, 4-0 Southeastern Conference) has already lost nose guard Marquan McCall in the win over Florida with what he described as a lower extremity injury. Senior Abule Abadi-Fitzgerald is listed as the starter for Saturday's East Division showdown at top-ranked Georgia. The announcement comes as Oxendine was named SEC co-defensive line player of the week for his play against LSU. The sophomore recorded two sacks among three tackles, earning credit for a sack after forcing an intentional grounding call. He was eighth on the team with 15 tackles, including 3.5 for loss. - AP College Football

  10/10/21 - Zach CalzadarSr/2026, Kentucky, 6-3, 222 (DS#57 QB) + More +

During a speaking engagement this spring Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher used colorful language to proclaim his team would beat Alabama during coach Nick Saban's career. He fulfilled that promise in his first try since that vow Saturday night, handing the defending national champions their first loss since 2019 in a thrilling upset. "Our team beat a really good football team...and that's what's important to me," Fisher said. Seth Small made a 28-yard field goal as time expired and Texas A&M stunned top-ranked Alabama 41-38 to end the Crimson Tide's winning streak at 19 games. The victory came on Fisher's 56th birthday and is certainly Texas A&M's biggest win since Fisher took over in 2018. "I didn't know what to get him, so we thought as a team that we should get a win for him," Small said. Alabama (5-1, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) had scored 21 straight points - capped by a TD reception and 2-point conversion grab by Jameson Williams - to take a 38-31 lead with five minutes to go.

Texas A&M (4-2, 1-2) tied it at 38 when Zach Calzada connected with Ainias Smith for a 25-yard touchdown with three minutes left. Calzada was hit as he threw the strike and had to be helped off the field but returned for the next drive after a visit to the medical tent. Calzada returned after the Aggies forced a punt to orchestrate the winning drive, highlighted by a 17-yard pass to Isaiah Spiller before Small finished it off to send fans streaming onto the field to celebrate. "I'm proud of our guys," Fisher said. "We made plays at critical times." Calzada threw for 285 yards and three touchdowns, as the former backup played like a star. Devon Achane returned a kickoff 96 yards for a TD in the third quarter and A&M's defense got after Bryce Young all night. - Texas A&M/AP College Football

  10/10/21 - Will LevisrSr/2023, Kentucky, 6-4, 229 (DS#4 QB) + More +

Will Levis' short touchdown passes stood out because his throwing touch has been a work in progress. The gutsy Kentucky quarterback continued to show how he can take and give hits rushing the ball, spinning free from several tackles during one run before carrying a few LSU defenders a few extra yards for a highlight-worthy clip. Both impressive skills helped the No. 16 Wildcats earn their most remarkable victory this season. Levis threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more scores and Kentucky dominated LSU throughout in a 42-21 blowout Saturday night.

The Wildcats have their first 6-0 start since 1950, improved to 4-0 in the Southeastern Conference and earned a second consecutive win over a conference heavyweight. Kentucky beat then-No. 10 Florida 20-13 last week. The Wildcats' biggest challenge looms at No. 2 Georgia next week in an East Division showdown, and they'll enter with their best performance since the season opener. Levis had a huge hand in that, with the QB bouncing back from a lackluster stretch to account for three second-half scores alone as Kentucky pulled away to a 35-7 lead early in the fourth quarter. The Penn State transfer sandwiched TD passes of 25, 11 and 3 yards between rushing scores of 5 and 1 yards as the Wildcats outgained the Tigers 475-408, though much of LSU's yardage came after the game was out of reach. - Kentucky/AP College Football

  10/03/21 - Josh PaschalrSr/2022, Kentucky, 6-3, 270 (DS#9 DE) + More +

Trevin Wallace returned a blocked field goal 76 yards for the go-ahead touchdown late in the third quarter, Chris Rodriguez Jr. had a 9-yard scoring run early in the fourth and Kentucky made a final defensive stand to hold off No. 10 Florida 20-13 on Saturday night. The Southeastern Conference East Division showdown was more of a slog than a slugfest for much of the night, and the Gators (3-2, 1-2) were poised to add Jace Christmann's 48-yard field goal attempt to their 10-7 lead. Kentucky defensive end Josh Paschal got a hand on the low kick that sent the ball fluttering the line to Wallace, who jetted past a tackle on the left sideline and cut back through a small seam to race for the game-changing TD.

The Wildcats (5-0, 3-0) turned it over on downs at the Florida 34 to start the fourth quarter but created another opportunity when linebacker J.J. Weaver intercepted Emory Jones' pass for a first down at the Gators 29. Rodriguez took over from there, rushing three times for 22 yards including the 9-yard TD for a 20-10 cushion with 11:32 remaining. Florida got within seven on Christmann's 33-yard field goal with 6:23 left before getting the ball again a couple of minutes later and driving to the Kentucky 5 with the help of a defensive facemask penalty. A 4-yard loss on a pass play and false start penalty moved the Gators back to the 14, but they had a final chance from the 8 before Jacquez Jones swatted away a fourth-down pass with 18 seconds left to seal the win. Fans stormed the field as Kentucky beat Florida at home for the first time since 1986 and took a big step toward challenging Georgia in the East. - Kentucky/AP College Football

  10/03/21 - Devin LearyrSr/2024, Kentucky, 6-1, 215 (DS#15 QB) + More +

Beating Clemson was tough enough for North Carolina State. Getting refocused for a nonconference game a week later was another challenge. "That was a monumental task," coach Dave Doeren said. "More than people probably understand." The No. 23 Wolfpack did it just well enough. Devin Leary threw for two touchdowns and N.C. State held off Louisiana Tech 34-27 on Saturday night.

Louisiana Tech picked up five first downs on its last possession, reaching the N.C. State 22-yard line before Jakeen Harris' interception in the end zone on the game's final play. "We did enough to win," Doeren said. "It's great, I guess, to not play great and to win a football game." N.C. State built on the upset of Clemson and improved to 4-1 for the second year in a row. "You could tell our energy wasn't there at the beginning of the game," running back Ricky Person Jr. said. "As it went on, we started to come together as a whole unit and push forward." Leary was 22 for 36 for 251 yards. Person (90 yards) and running back Zonovan Knight (85) each ran for a touchdown. - North Carolina State/AP College Football

Matt Ruffolo made three field goals to help Kentucky beat South Carolina 16-10 on Saturday night. Despite its three turnovers, Kentucky (4-0, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) beat South Carolina (2-2, 1-1) for the seventh time in eight years, and set up a collision course toward next week's matchup at home against No. 11 Florida. "We just have to worry about ourselves. We got to prove to each other and the team that we can go out there and compete with anybody who steps on the field," said Kentucky linebacker DeAndre Square, who led the Wildcats with eight tackles. "It's not about anybody else, it's about us." Chris Rodriguez Jr. ran for 144 yards on 26 carries for the Wildcats.

Will Levis was 15-of-22 passing for 102 yards and threw an interception. Kavosiey Smoke scored on 15-yard touchdown run on the first series of the game, capping a 12-play, 75-yard drive for Kentucky. Ruffolo's 41-yard field goal to end the second quarter gave the Wildcats a 10-0 lead. Luke Doty threw a threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Jalen Brooks early in the third quarter for South Carolina. Ruffalo made field goals from 21 and 27 yards before Parker White's 54-yard field goal capped the scoring with 2:31 remaining. Doty was 17-of-25 passing for 158 yards. Kevin Harris was held to just 38 yards rushing on 12 carries. - Kentucky/AP College Football

  09/25/21 - Devin LearyrSr/2024, Kentucky, 6-1, 215 (DS#15 QB) + More +

Clemson's final pass had barely hit the ground when North Carolina State's sideline began charging toward the field to celebrate, followed closely by red-clad Wolfpack fans pouring in to join them from all directions. The Wolfpack's long run of frustration in these marquee games is over. And the ninth-ranked Tigers' shot of returning to the College Football Playoff could be, too. N.C. State forced D.J. Uiagalelei into a fourth-down incompletion to seal a 27-21 win against the Tigers on Saturday. It's an outcome that shakes up the Atlantic Coast Conference race while also dealing a huge blow to the Tigers' playoff hopes in the long term behind yet another woeful offensive performance to start the year.

N.C. State (3-1, 1-0 ACC) had lost eight straight and 15 of 16 meetings to the Tigers, which included at least one painfully close loss that fueled a bit of Murphy's Law-level pessimism - locals know it by an expletive-featuring nickname - among Wolfpack fans. No more, at least not for ninth-year coach Dave Doeren after his first win against a top-10 team. "The curse is broken, N.C. State fans, finally," Doeren chuckled. "I've been here nine years and seen a lot of crazy stuff. And people have talked about it and didn't believe it. But I've got to tell you: I think it was real, and it's not there anymore. So we can move on now and be happy about that." Devin Leary threw for four touchdowns, including the winning 22-yard pass to Devin Carter - who made a twisting adjustment to the back-shoulder throw and got both knees down inside the back right corner of the end zone for the lead to start the second OT. - North Carolina State/AP College Football
