  08/31/19 - Jason BrownrSr/2024, Jackson State, 6-2, 230 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Jason Brown escaped a near sack and fired a dart to Terell Johnson for a 35-yard game-winning touchdown pass as St. Francis rallied past Lehigh 14-13 in Saturday's season opener. Brown's first two career touchdown passes came after halftime during his first start. Trailing 13-0 at the break, Brown threw a deep strike to his high school teammate EJ Jenkins for the Red Flash's first score late in the third quarter, and zipped the winner to Johnson with 1:17 left to play. Brown completed 22 of 37 passes for 293 yards. Jenkins led all receivers with 125 yards on five catches. He caught Brown's 75-yard TD pass over his left shoulder without breaking stride.

Lehigh mounted a serious bid to regain the lead in the final minute. Starting at their own 4, the Mountain Hawks drove 74 yards before Austin Henning's potential game-winning 40-yard field goal sailed wide as time expired. Henning had earlier connected from 21 and 37 yards. Lehigh's Sam McCloskey scored the lone TD with a 56-yard fumble recovery. The loss foiled the debut of coach Tom Gilmore, who would have been the 16th Lehigh coach to win his first game. - AP College Football

  08/11/19 - John HugginsrSr/2024, Jackson State, 6-1, 213 (DS#25 FS) + More +

Florida defensive back John Huggins has been dismissed from the football program. A team spokesman declined to say what prompted the sophomore's dismissal. Huggins had missed all of preseason camp while dealing with what the Gators called a "family issue." According to a police report released earlier this week, a 19-year-old University of Florida student accused Huggins of choking her during a tutoring session last October. Huggins was upset because the tutor took his phone in hopes of ensuring he would stay for the entire session, the report said.

The woman had previously been uncomfortable because Huggins pulled her hair in another session, the report said. She did not pursue a criminal case, and no charges were filed from the battery complaint. Coach Dan Mullen said Tuesday that Huggins was punished; he missed five games following the alleged incident and is currently enrolled at the school. Mullen added that Huggins' most recent absence had nothing to do with the alleged incident in October. - AP College Football

  08/06/19 - John HugginsrSr/2024, Jackson State, 6-1, 213 (DS#25 FS) + More +

Florida coach Dan Mullen insists he has "great clarity" regarding absentee defensive back John Huggins. Not many others do. Huggins has missed every practice during fall camp because of what the Gators say is a "family issue." Mullen declined to elaborate, but said Tuesday it has nothing to do with the sophomore allegedly choking a female student last year. "That's all been handled," Mullen said.

According to a police report released this week in response to public records requests, a 19-year-old University of Florida student said Huggins choked her during a tutoring session last October. Huggins was upset because the tutor took his phone in hopes of ensuring he would stay for the entire session, the report said. - AP College Football
