  06/05/22 - McKenzie MiltonrSr/2022, Florida State, 5-11, 194 (DS#29 QB) + More +

Former UCF and Florida State quarterback McKenzie Milton announced Thursday night on social media that he is retiring from football. "There is no easy way to put or say this but my playing days of football have come to an end," Milton wrote on Instagram. "With the culmination of the 2022 NFL Draft it has become pretty evident that a path to the NFL is not realistic given the external variables. "Having said that...I want to thank all of you for the love and support over the years." Milton led the Knights to a 27-6 record as a starter, including an undefeated 2017 season, and two American Athletic Conference championships. - Orlando Sentinel

D'Mitri Emmanuel becomes the third offensive line transfer to join the program this season, along with Kayden Lyles (Wisconsin) and Bless Harris (Lamar). He joins a group that features returning starters Dillan Gibbons, Darius Washington and Maurice Smith, promising backups in Thomas Shrader, Zane Herring, Bryson Estes and newcomers Kanaya Charlton and Daughtry Richardson. The offensive line has been a point of emphasis for FSU, particularly under third-year coach Mike Norvell and Atkins. The Seminoles were one of the worst pass protection teams from 2018-20, allowing 113 quarterback sacks in those three years.

Emmanuel knew about Florida State as a casual fan, but he learned much more by visiting the campus. "Florida State is a program that's been winning for a long time," Emmanuel explained. "You see it on TV and I wasn't too familiar with a lot of the stuff that goes on here, but when you just come to the Florida State campus, you feel they love football here. It has a lot of tradition and a lot of great players have played here, gone to NFL and done a lot of good things. You see the family type of vibe here." Experience and leadership are what Seminoles fans can expect to see out of Emmanuel, who started 24 consecutive games at both tackle and guard spots between 2019-21. While he isn't sure what position he'll wind up playing, he is looking forward to helping the team out. "I feel like offensive line is a developmental position," he said. "When I was a young player, you made mistakes and stuff, but you have to make those mistakes to grow. I've made a lot of mistakes in my career and I've learned from them. "I love offensive line. It's a skill and a craft, and I love playing the position." - Orlando Sentinel

Former Charlotte 49ers offensive lineman D'Mitri Emmanuel has left the transfer portal after committing to the Florida State Seminoles. The 6'2", 300-pound redshirt senior will play next year for the Seminoles, adding a veteran big man to their line. Emmanuel started three seasons for the 49ers, playing left guard, left tackle and right tackle during his career. Emmanuel shared the news via his social media, making the move from C-USA to the ACC. Emmanuel was a former three-star recruit in the 2017 recruiting class, according to the On3 Consensus Rankings - a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. - D'Mitri Emmanuel twitter and online sources

  05/15/22 - Jordan TravisrSr/2024, Florida State, 6-1, 203 (DS#10 QB) + More +

When Florida State coach Mike Norvell began retooling the Seminoles' roster over the past few seasons, he was looking to add necessary experience and leadership to an otherwise young and raw group of players. Norvell achieved that by adding more than two dozen players through the transfer market. Their presence gave the team a lift, specifically through the performances of players such as Jermaine Johnson II, Keir Thomas, Jashaun Corbin and Devontay Love-Taylor. As the play improved, so did the team's confidence - a noticeable improvement coming out of FSU's spring camp last month.

"You saw confidence because guys understood the expectation," said Norvell. "We were able to push harder, and it wasn't all new for them." The quarterback group showed the most significant growth, with redshirt junior Jordan Travis returning as FSU's starter. After on-again, off-again seasons, Travis also assumes a more prominent leadership role for the Seminoles. "It's probably one of the biggest differences within our program," said Norvell. "Jordan is an incredible young man, but we had yet to see that confidence because there had not been that consistency of him being the guy, being able to go out there and consistently showcase what he could do. We got a glimpse of that last year and you watch how he responded in challenging situations." - Orlando Sentinel

  05/15/22 - Casey RoddickrSr/2024, Florida State, 6-3, 296 (DS#72 OG) + More +

In recalling the memory of returning to the football field last summer, Casey Roddick can't help but laugh. "It was like a baby deer just trying to get out there and figure out how to run first," he said. Now a fifth-year junior offensive lineman for the Colorado Buffaloes, Roddick is enjoying a new level of confidence after going through a full winter and spring of workouts. He didn't get those workouts last year. In late January of 2021, about a month after he and the Buffs played in the Valero Alamo Bowl, Roddick contracted COVID-19 and then was diagnosed with myocarditis, which is inflammation of the heart muscle sometimes caused by a virus.

"Personally, I thought I was done playing forever," he said. "That was the consensus between myself and also some of the coaches that were previously here. They thought I was done with it. It was definitely scary to figure out, like, it could be over just like that." Studies have shown that young males are more likely to develop myocarditis than others and that African Americans have had a higher rate of hospitalization from COVID-19 compared to Caucasians. "I just had to do whatever the doctor was telling me, but the statistics don't lie at the end of the day," Roddick said. "Definitely when I heard those statistics it was alarming to be like, 'Okay, what do I need to do to get over this, most importantly, but how can I get over it the fastest?" - Daily Camera

  03/06/22 - DJ UiagaleleirSr/2025, Florida State, 6-4, 229 (DS#32 QB) + More +

"Big Cinco" might just be a nickname in word only for DJ Uiagalelei moving forward. Clemson's rising junior quarterback revealed Friday evening that he had lost around 20 pounds during the offseason. He said he got up to around 260 pounds last season and is now 240, but wants to try and get down to 230 or 235. A large part of the slimming-down process was cutting out sweets and fast food. That includes In-N-Out, a staple in Uiagalelei's home state of California, and Bojangles, one of the first companies to offer him a name, image and likeness deal last summer. "Bojangles," he said, hesitating, "I mean, Bojangles, right now, I'm cutting it out just a little bit, just kind of cutting it out but in moderation." As much as he'd like to eat ice cream or make a quick stop at Bojangles, Uiagalelei is thinking long-term about his overall health and what's best for his football career.

He compared his new mindset to recently retired NFL quarterback Tom Brady's approach to physical health and diet. "You kind of see like the TB12 diet and stuff like that where your body's like a temple," the Tigers' signal caller said. "You want to be able to treat your body like a Ferrari. I stopped eating fast food and trying to treat (my body) like a high-engine car, like a fancy car. Kind of just like good stuff in your body, and that's what I've been doing." - The State

  12/30/22 - Jaheim BellrJr/2024, Florida State, 6-2, 241 (DS#1 FB) + More +

South Carolina coach Shane Beamer anticipated getting a bucket of mayonnaise dumped over his head would be awful. And yet, it was worse than he could have imagined. Beamer got hit in the back of the head by the cooler before 4 1/2 gallons of mayo cascaded over his face and down his shirt, capping the Gamecocks' celebration after their 38-21 victory over North Carolina in the Duke's Mayo Bowl on Thursday. "I got hammered in the back of the head from the cooler - and then came the mayo," Beamer said. "I may have a concussion. It was awful." He changed his shirt for the postgame news conference, but joked, "I still have mayo in my pockets." But, for Beamer, it was all worth it to cap the season with a bowl win.

Jaheim Bell had five catches for 159 yards and two touchdowns for South Carolina (7-6), which rebounded nicely after it lost 30-0 to Clemson in its regular-season finale on Nov. 27. Kevin Harris added 169 yards rushing and a score. Bell, a sophomore tight end, got free for a 69-yard touchdown reception from converted wide receiver Dakereon Joyner and hauled in a 66-yard TD catch from former graduate assistant coach Zeb Noland on South Carolina's first two possessions. Juju McDowell added a 35-yard TD run in the second quarter as South Carolina averaged 11.6 yards per play while opening a 25-13 halftime lead. - South Carolina/AP College Football

  12/16/21 - Jashaun CorbinrJr/2022, Florida State, 5-11, 203 (DS#29 RB) + More +

Florida State running back Jashaun Corbin is ending his time with the Seminoles and declaring for the 2022 NFL Draft. Corbin shared his decision in a statement on social media Monday. "Thank you God and to everyone who has helped me get to this point. I'm truly grateful #HeroZero," the redshirt sophomore posted on Twitter. Corbin started 20 games in his two seasons with FSU after arriving as a transfer from Texas A&M, where he appeared in 14 games for the Aggies. He led the Seminoles in rushing with 887 yards, including two of the longest runs in the ACC: an 89-yard touchdown against Notre Dame and a 75-yard touchdown against Louisville. He joined Dalvin Cook (2015), Chris Thompson (2010) and Sammie Smith (1987) as the only players in school history with multiple scoring runs of 75 yards or longer in a season. Corbin also was one of the Seminoles top receiving threats, leading the team in catches (25) while totaling 144 yards and 1 touchdown. - Orlando Sentinel

Florida State defensive end Jermaine Johnson II penned a farewell letter to Seminoles fans Thursday as the redshirt senior transitions into preparations for the upcoming NFL draft. "I know this message can't explain all my feelings of gratitude for this university, but I'll give it my best shot … First, I want and need to thank God, my amazing support system, teammates, coaches and staff, and, of course, you amazing fans," Johnson said in a statement posted to Twitter. "The incredible opportunity to represent this university and everyone associated with it has been nothing short of a blessing, and I cannot thank God enough for it." After spending two seasons at Georgia, Johnson was among 13 transfers to join the Florida State roster in the offseason.

The redshirt senior immediately impacted the Seminoles, providing the defense with an elite edge rusher. He earned ACC Defensive Player of the Year honors earlier this month, capping a season where he led the conference in sacks (12) and tackles for loss (18). Johnson became the eighth Seminole to earn the honor since its inception in 1993, joining DeMarcus Walker (2016), Bjoern Werner (12), Darnell Dockett (03), Andre Wadsworth (97), Peter Boulware (96), Derrick Alexander (94) and Derrick Brooks (93). - Orlando Sentinel

  12/07/21 - McKenzie MiltonrSr/2022, Florida State, 5-11, 194 (DS#29 QB) + More +

2021 BRIAN PICCOLO AWARD WINNER: Florida State senior quarterback McKenzie Milton and Clemson junior wide receiver Justyn Ross have been named joint recipients of the Atlantic Coast Conference's 2021 Brian Piccolo Award, the league announced on Monday. The Piccolo Award has been given annually since 1970 in memory of the late Brian Piccolo to the "most courageous" football player in the ACC. Milton, who hails from Kapolei, Hawai'i, joined Florida State this season as a graduate transfer from UCF, where he suffered a catastrophic knee injury in the 2018 regular-season finale. A two-time Heisman Trophy candidate, Milton suffered artery and nerve damage to his leg, a dislocated knee and multiple torn ligaments and tendons. He nearly had his right leg amputated after the helmet-to-knee hit caused a lack of blood flow to his leg. Doctors removed a vein from his left leg to help create a new artery for his right leg to restore blood flow and successfully save this leg. The main goal from the surgeons who operated on him was for him to hopefully one day walk without a limp and without pain. After eight surgical procedures, he persevered through more than 1,000 days of rehabilitation, and in December 2020, transferred to Florida State. Milton appeared in six games for the Seminoles this season, completing 81 of 139 passes (58.3%) for 775 yards and three touchdowns. - ACC Football

2021 ALL-ACC FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM (COACHES/MEDIA): S - Jammie Robinson, Florida State, 106 votes,...Robinson earned the most All-ACC votes for any safety in the league. The Cordele, Georgia, native led FSU with 84 tackles and four interceptions, while his 7.0 tackles for loss ranked third on the team behind Johnson (18.0) and Thomas (12.0). Robinson wrapped his first season in Tallahassee with a standout game at Florida, finishing with 18 tackles, 1.5 for loss and an interception. He is the only player in the country this season, and the first player in the ACC since 2011, to reach those tackle and TFL numbers with an interception in a game. Robinson also forced two fumbles, tied with Johnson for the team lead, and had a hand in six of FSU's 20 takeaways on the season. Florida State ended the year with an interception in eight straight games, the Noles' longest streak since 2003-04 and tied for the longest streak in the country this season. - Florida State Football
