Jaheim Bell, Florida State, Player News

  01/23/23 - FB Jaheim BellrJr/2024, Florida State, 6-2, 241 (DS#1 FB) + More +

When Jaheim Bell tuned into Florida State football games, he saw an explosive offense led by dual-threat quarterback Jordan Travis. Teaming up with the Seminoles made perfect sense to the redshirt junior. "This offense is explosive," he said. "I caught a few games this season and wanted to be a part of that." Bell, a South Carolina tight end, entered the transfer portal on Dec. 6 and committed to FSU less than a week later.

It didn't hurt that Travis and offensive playmakers such as running back Trey Benson and receivers Johnny Wilson and Mycah Pittman were returning for another season. "That was a big factor in me coming here, especially with Jordan returning," Bell said. "That was a key piece to me. Just having a quarterback that is experienced [matters] because I know how that can be, playing with a quarterback who is not experienced. Jordan's return made me want to come here even more." The 6-foot-3 Bell had just completed his third season with the Gamecocks - his second as a full-time starter - where he amassed 1,058 total yards in 26 appearances. He split time in the backfield and at receiver, finishing second on the team in rushing yards (261) this season. - Orlando Sentinel

South Carolina's Jaheim Bell, the most versatile offensive weapon the Gamecocks have, will enter the NCAA transfer portal, he announced late Monday night. A multi-use talent who could play running back, receiver and tight end, Bell came into the season with expectations that he would be a heavy part of every offensive game plan. Instead, he spent most of it without the ball in his hands, which led to late-season statements about his frustration and explanations from former offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield that didn't make much sense. Satterfield declared he wanted Bell to touch the ball as much as possible, something that was echoed by head coach Shane Beamer, but the execution screamed otherwise.

It came to a head after a 23-10 loss to Missouri where Bell was on the field for nine snaps and received no carries nor catches. "It's very frustrating going through the week knowing that you're going to get the ball and it doesn't happen," Bell said then. "It's kind of frustrating, but I kind of tried to let that go after Sunday and Monday and today on Tuesday, try to come in and build on it and be positive and prepare like a pro." The Gamecocks' final four games, which also featured injuries to top two running backs MarShawn Lloyd and Christian Beal-Smith, saw Bell's usage dramatically increase. Bell rushed nine times, scoring one touchdown, and caught two passes in the Gamecocks' 31-30 win at Clemson on Nov. 26. The thought was that Bell would consider the NFL Draft, but his statement on Monday said nothing about professional football, only that he was leaving USC. With fellow tight end Austin Stogner also announcing his intention to enter the portal on Monday, and Nate Adkins out of eligibility, the Gamecocks stand to return only Traevon Kenion from their four-TE rotation. - The Post and Courier

2022 COACHES PRESEASON ALL-SEC THIRD TEAM: TE - Jaheim Bell, South Carolina,...Bell, a 6-3, 232-pound junior from Lake City, Fla., burst onto the national scene with a record-setting Duke's Mayo bowl performance against North Carolina when he caught five passes for a career-high 159 yards and two touchdowns, earning a spot on the Associated Press' All-Bowl Team. He finished the 2021 season with 30 receptions for 497 yards and five scores. - South Carolina Football

It's a compliment. Jaheim Bell knows that. But for his own motivation, and more so his personal feelings, he will politely tell you he doesn't want to be compared to anybody. Not even multi-purpose NFL star Deebo Samuel. "As far as being compared to Deebo, I really don't like that. I'm one of one. I'm myself," he demurred. "I really don't want to be compared to the next guy." Bell broke out as a sophomore in 2021, catching 30 passes for 497 yards and five touchdowns. He also had five carries for 40 carries and a 22-yard kickoff return scattered throughout 12 regular-season games. His six-catch, 136-yard performance against Vanderbilt was the best game by a tight end in school history. At a school that has produced first-round NFL Draft pick tight ends like Willie Scott and Hayden Hurst, not to mention third-rounder and 13-year NFL vet Jared Cook, that stands out.

Yet he did himself one better in the Duke's Mayo Bowl, hauling in five balls for 159 yards and two touchdowns while adding three carries for 21 yards. If North Carolina didn't know who Bell was after he took the Gamecocks' first play of the game 20 yards on an off-tackle run, they did two plays later when he plucked a pass from Dakereon Joyner and raced 69 yards for a touchdown. He only needed three plays to score again, trotting a ball and a neon-lit "IT'S OVER" sign into the end zone with him. The Tar Heels found out what the rest of the world was quickly discovering. Jaheim Bell is a major talent. Just like Deebo Samuel is. And because they do so many things for their respective teams, and because Samuel is a USC alum, Bell had the Deebo label taped to him before he knew it was peeled off the contact sheet. "They are different, but they're both strong, athletic, they both make plays with the ball in their hands," USC tight ends coach Jody Wright said. "They both line up in multiple positions." - The Post and Courier

South Carolina coach Shane Beamer anticipated getting a bucket of mayonnaise dumped over his head would be awful. And yet, it was worse than he could have imagined. Beamer got hit in the back of the head by the cooler before 4 1/2 gallons of mayo cascaded over his face and down his shirt, capping the Gamecocks' celebration after their 38-21 victory over North Carolina in the Duke's Mayo Bowl on Thursday. "I got hammered in the back of the head from the cooler - and then came the mayo," Beamer said. "I may have a concussion. It was awful." He changed his shirt for the postgame news conference, but joked, "I still have mayo in my pockets." But, for Beamer, it was all worth it to cap the season with a bowl win.

Jaheim Bell had five catches for 159 yards and two touchdowns for South Carolina (7-6), which rebounded nicely after it lost 30-0 to Clemson in its regular-season finale on Nov. 27. Kevin Harris added 169 yards rushing and a score. Bell, a sophomore tight end, got free for a 69-yard touchdown reception from converted wide receiver Dakereon Joyner and hauled in a 66-yard TD catch from former graduate assistant coach Zeb Noland on South Carolina's first two possessions. Juju McDowell added a 35-yard TD run in the second quarter as South Carolina averaged 11.6 yards per play while opening a 25-13 halftime lead. - South Carolina/AP College Football
