Backup Nick Tronti took over in the second half, adding 57 yards passing and a touchdown. Vladimir Rivas kicked two field goals.   Malcolm Davidson ran for 149 yards and a touchdown and Florida Atlantic used a strong second half to beat Middle Tennessee, 28-13 in a Conference USA clash Saturday. Middle Tennessee got on the board first when Asher O'Hara found CJ Windham in the end zone with a 30-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, but the Owls blocked the extra point and Akileis LeRoy returned it for a 2-point defensive conversion that made it 6-2. O'Hara added a 9-yard run for a touchdown to put the Blue Raiders up, 13-12 at intermission, but Middle Tennessee was shut out in the second half.

Vladimir Rivas kicked from 37-yards out in the second quarter to get Florida Atlantic within one before halftime, then put them in front with a 26-yarder early in the third. Davidson broke free for his score to make it 22-13 with 3:23 left in the third quarter. Larry McCammon III added a 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter for Florida Atlantic (4-2, 2-0). O'Hara was 24 of 42 for 335 yards passing and a touchdown for Middle Tennessee (2-4, 1-1), but was picked off three times. - AP College Football

Kobe Lewis rushed for 161 yards and two touchdowns as Central Michigan cruised past winless New Mexico State, 42-28 in a nonconference game on Saturday. The Chippewas lost starting quarterback David Moore Tuesday to an NCAA suspension after he tested positive for a banned substance and now have won back-to-back games under first-year coach Jim McIlwain. Central Michigan has appealed the suspension.

Quinten Dormady stepped up to complete 14 of 24 passes for 134 yards and two touchdowns, hitting Kalil Pimpleton with a 44-yard touchdown pass three minutes into the game to put the Chippewas in front, 7-0. Moore raced 57-yards for a score minutes later to make it 14-0 and his 20-yard dash early in the second quarter made it 21-7. Jonathan Ward ran 75 yards for a score in the second quarter and Dormady added a 7-yard scoring pass to Tony Poljan in the fourth quarter and added a two-point conversion pass to Pimpleton that made it 42-21 early in the fourth quarter. Josh Adkins was 24 of 40 for 263 yards and three touchdowns with an interception for New Mexico State (0-7). - Central Michigan/AP College Football

Chris Robison and Malcolm Davidson each accounted for two touchdowns and Florida Atlantic rolled to a 45-27 victory over Charlotte on Saturday in a Conference USA opener. Robison was 20-of-27 passing for 312 yards with a pair of touchdown passes. Davidson, a freshman, added a career-high 83 yards rushing that included two touchdown runs. Harrison Bryant had six receptions for 96 yards for Florida Atlantic (3-2, 1-0). Meiko Dotson had two interceptions.

Chris Reynolds was 15 of 28 for 208 yards passing with three touchdown passes, but threw two of Charlotte's (2-3, 0-1) three interceptions. Deangelo Antoine's only carry, a 66-yarder on FAU's first play from scrimmage, set up Larry McCammon III's 3-yard TD run on the next play and the Owls never trailed. Bryant's 57-yard catch led to Davidson's second TD, a 6-yard run midway through the third quarter. - Florida Atlantic/AP College Football

SEPT 23/WEEK 4 CONFERENCE USA OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Florida Atlantic graduate transfer WR Deangelo Antoine was asked to move from wide receiver to slot last week and the move was not only breakout, it was record-breaking. Antoine had 11 receptions for 173 yards and four touchdowns in the win over Wagner. His four TDs marked just the eighth time in C-USA's 25-year history that a player has caught four or more TDs in a game.

Two players have caught five and Antoine is the sixth player to catch four in a game and is the first since 2016. The four TDs one-upped the bar set by teammate John Mitchell, who had three a week ago at Ball State, and set a new single-game record for FAU, breaking the previous mark of three set by Coretz Gent in 2008 and tied by Mitchell. The Orlando, Florida native's TD receptions were for 37, 17, 28 and 57 yards and most yardage was made after the catch. - Conference USA Football

WEEK 3 C-USA DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Florida Atlantic senior LB Rashad Smith tallied six tackles, including a sack for a loss of eight yards, a tackle for a loss of two yards, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries, including one in the end zone to prevent a Ball State score, in the Owls' 41-31 victory. On BSU's seventh play of the day, Smith recovered a fumble and had a four-yard return at the Ball State 31, which set up FAU's first scoring drive of the game.

He later recovered a fumble in the end zone to end a possible scoring drive by the Cardinals. The Owls would use that game-swinging momentum to drive 80 yards, score and take a 28-17 lead. In BSU's opening drive of the fourth quarter, Smith would record a tackle and force a fumble, which FAU recovered and again used to score. - Conference USA Football

Chris Robison threw for 366 yards and four touchdowns, three of them to John Mitchell, as Florida Atlantic picked up its first win, posting a 41-31 win over Ball State in a nonconference battle Saturday afternoon. Florida Atlantic opened the season with tough losses to two nationally ranked teams (45-21 to No. 5 Ohio State and 48-14 to No. 18 Central Florida) Robison put FAU on top midway through the first quarter, hitting John Raine from 4-yards out, but the Owls fumbled in their own backfield on their next possession and Jordan Williams scooped up the loose ball and ran 60 yards for the tying touchdown with 1:16.

A holding call on the kickoff put the Owls at their own 12 to start their next series and on the first play from scrimmage Robison hit Willie Wright for a short gain, but Wright fumbled and Williams recovered his second fumble in two plays. Drew Pitt threw 14 yards to Yoheinz Tyler with :04 left in the first quarter to put the Cardinals (1-2) up, 14-7. Robison hit Mitchell with two second-quarter touchdowns from 33- and 2-yards out to take a 21-17 lead at intermission and Larry McCammon III added a 1-yard run for a score before Robison and Mitchell hooked up for a third time, this one from 24-yards out to make it a 34-17 advantage. James Charles pushed the FAU lead to 41-24 with a 4-yard run early in the fourth quarter. Robison finished 33 of 41 passing and Mitchell made eight catches for 124 yards. McCammon carried 25 times for 99 yards. - AP College Football

Florida Atlantic quarterback Chris Robison said he "feels great" after practicing for the first time since he was reinstated from a lengthy suspension. Robison was suspended for all of FAU's 15-practice spring camp earlier this year after university police investigated Robison in December following a student's allegation of sexual battery. The woman later said the encounter was consensual and that she did not want to press charges, according to documents obtained by The Post.

The incident, which occurred in early December, also saw Robison admit to underage drinking and drug use. He was reinstated earlier this summer and Friday, the first day of fall camp, he split first-team reps with redshirt sophomore Nick Tronti and junior Justin Agner. "We didn't really skip a beat," said Robison, who was named C-USA co-freshman of the year last year. "Everybody supported me throughout the whole process. When I came back, people were still supportive, still wanting (me) to get better, and that's really all it's about." - Palm Beach Post

Antoine was an all-purpose player for the Bulls, playing running back, safety and wide receiver from 2016 to 2018. He is officially listed on the Owls' roster as a defensive back and is immediately eligible to play. Antoine caught 25 passes for 267 yards and two touchdowns the last three years.
