Freshman quarterback Ian Corwin threw two touchdown passes and wide receiver Alex Bray tossed one of his own as Drake held off Davidson 31-28 on Saturday. Drew Lauer rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown for the Bulldogs (6-5, 6-2 Pioneer Football League). He also had a receiving TD and finished with three catches for 63 yards. The Wildcats (8-4, 5-3) grabbed a 7-0 lead on Wesley Dugger's 1-yard plunge with 4 minutes left in the first quarter. But Drake answered with a 7-play, 68-yard drive that ended with Lauer's 5-yard TD run to knot the score at 7. Davidson regained the lead on Kahleel Shaw's 31-yard TD run with 11:28 left in the second quarter, but Bray hit Erin Morgan for a 13-yard score on a trick play to pull the Bulldogs even at 14. Drake took a 21-14 lead into halftime when Corwin hit Devin Cates for a 4-yard score with 18 seconds left.

Nathan De Bruin's 21-yard field goal stretched Drake's lead to 10 early in the third quarter, but the Wildcats cut their deficit to three after Eli Turner Jr. scored on a 3-yard run. Corwin gave Drake some breathing room with a 4-yard TD toss to Lauer just 44 seconds into the final quarter. Dugger's 2-yard TD run pulled Davidson within 31-28 with 8:25 left to play. The Wildcats turned the ball over on downs on their final two possessions. Tyler Phelps was 0-for-6 passing for Davidson and Turner connected on his only pass as the Wildcats were held to 14 yards through the air. Dugger finished with 109 yards and two scores on 27 carries. Ian Corwin passed for two touchdowns, Drew Lauer rushed for 134 yards and two scores, and Drake beat Jacksonville 28-14 on Saturday for the Dolphins' sixth straight loss. Corwin was 13-of-19 passing for 169 yards with one interception. His scoring passes went to Shane Feller and Devin Cates to give Drake a 21-7 lead late in the third quarter. Corwin sealed it with an 11-yard scoring run with 3:57 left. Drake (5-4, 5-1 Pioneer) recovered a fumble, intercepted a pass and held Jacksonville to 44 yards passing. Calvin Turner Jr. led Jacksonville (2-8, 0-6) with 150 rushing and 44 yards passing. A.J. Davis added five carries for 67 yards and a score, and Jordan Younge-Humphrey had six carries, 45 yards and a TD. 2019 JERRY RICE AWARD WATCH LIST: Ian Corwin, QB, Drake: 115 of 196 (58.7 percent), 1,321 yards, 14 TDs, 6 INTs (7 games),...Drake quarterback Ian Corwin is one of 24 freshmen named to the STATS FCS Jerry Rice Award Watch List. The Rice Award is named for the legendary Hall of Fame wide receiver and has been presented since 2011 to the Division I subdivision's freshman player of the year. Corwin, a native of Tulsa, Okla., has completed 129 of 228 passes (56.6 percent) for 1,480 yards and 14 touchdowns in his first season donning the blue and white. He was named the STATS FCS National Freshman Player of the Week on Sept. 30 after leading Drake to a 41-17 road win over Marist. OCT 28 PIONEER LEAGUE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Drew Lauer, Drake, Senior (RS), Halfback, St. Peters, Missouri,...Lauer's 242-yard outing led Drake to a fourth consecutive PFL win with a 36-17 victory against Morehead State, Saturday. His 242 rushing yards were the best performance in the FCS during Week 9 and the fourth-best rushing performance this season. He scored twice via the run game, a 13-yard run in the second quarter to give Drake the lead for good and a one-yard dash in the fourth frame to secure the victory. Drew Lauer rushed 28 times for a career-high 242 yards and Drake stayed undefeated in the Pioneer League with a 36-17 win over Morehead State on Saturday. The Bulldogs (4-3, 4-0) face the San Diego Toreros, who are also 4-0 in the Pioneer League, next Saturday. Lauer gave Drake the lead for good on a 13-yard TD run that made it 9-7 early in the second quarter. Lauer's second touchdown run extended the lead to 29-17 with 4:22 left in the game. Cross Robinson added nine carries for 44 yards and scored on a 13-yard run that capped the scoring with 2:54 left in the game. The Eagles (4-4, 2-2) took a 7-0 lead on DeAndre Clayton's 5-yard run in the first quarter. Mark Pappas' 16-yard TD pass to Landon Hurst cut the deficit to 22-17 for Morehead State early in the fourth quarter. Hurst had 11 catches for 123 yards and a score. - AP College Football
