  Central Michigan football quarterback Ty Brock is stepping away from football. He made the announcement Wednesday in an Instagram post. Brock told Central Michigan Life that he plans to finish his degree at CMU remotely and that he believes his scholarship will be honored through the spring semester. He's returning home to Texas in search of a new passion. Brock, a native of College Station, Texas, spent one season at CMU in which he played in five games, starting two. He was 38-for-65 passing for 351 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 118 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries. He came to CMU after three seasons at Division I FCS Sam Houston State, where he played in 15 games. - Central Michigan Life

  Former Iowa defensive back Daraun McKinney announced Saturday that he is transferring to the University of South Dakota. After redshirting last season, McKinney participated in each of the Hawkeyes' first three games of 2020 and did not record any stats. He made 26 catches for 277 yards and two touchdowns; he rushed 16 times for 134 yards and three TDs; he completed five of his eight pass attempts for 149 yards and one TD; he averaged 6.9 yards on eight punt returns, and he averaged 13 yards on two kickoff returns. His 53-yarder in the Chippewas' finale at Toledo was not only the longest of his career, but the longest by a MAC kicker this season.   Lew Nichols III had two fourth-quarter touchdown runs and finished with a career-high 196 yards rushing, and Central Michigan scored 25 points in the final quarter to beat Eastern Michigan 31-23 on Friday night. Nichols scored from the 9 and 1 to cap long drives, and Marshall Meeder made a 21-yard field goal with 2:31 to play to give Central Michigan (3-1, 3-1 Mid-American Conference) a 24-23 lead.

Devonni Reed intercepted a Preston Hutchinson tipped pass on Eastern Michigan's (0-4, 0-4) next possession. Kobe Lewis scored on a 9-yard touchdown run three plays later for the Chippewas with 1:43 remaining. Nichols had 29 carries and Lewis added 106 yards rushing on 18 carries. Meeder kicked field goals from the 51 and 29 in the first quarter. Hutchinson was 23 of 37 for 365 yards passing, threw three interceptions and added 57 yards on the ground.   Central Michigan's Kalil Pimpleton was named the weekly Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll for his performance last week in the Chippewas' 52-44 loss to Western Michigan. Pimpleton, a junior from Muskegon, touched the ball 14 times four different ways and scored four times. He had 107 yards and three touchdowns rushing; he caught three passes for 42 yards and a two-point conversion; he completed one pass for 30 yards; and he returned two punts for 15 yards.   Lew Nichols III had 12 carries for 91 yards and a touchdowns and added a 58-yard TD reception to help Central Michigan beat Northern Illinois 40-10 on Wednesday night. Drew Richardson was 13-of-19 passing for 196 yards and two touchdowns with one interception for Central Michigan (2-0, 2-0 Mid-American Conference). Richardson hit Dallas Dixon for a 58-yard touchdown with 11:33 left in the first quarter and the Chippewas led the rest of the way. Nichols ran up the middle, broke a tackled and raced 36 yards for a score on the second play of the fourth quarter to make it 33-0. Northern Illinois (0-2, 0-2) finished with just 244 total yards, converted just 2 of 15 third downs, and didn't get into the red zone until the closing seconds.
