  Trae Self threw for two touchdowns and Stephen F. Austin's defense produced two touchdowns and the Lumberjacks dismantled Mississippi Valley State 58-13 on Saturday. After forcing the Delta Devils to three-and-out on the opening drive, Self threw a 48-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Gipson to end a five-play, 66-yard drive. Gipson finished with 131 yards receiving on three receptions and with two scores.

On Mississippi State's following drive, Jeremiah Walker intercepted Conor Regan on third-and-nine and returned it 40 yards for a score and a 14-0 lead. The Delta Devils followed up that miscue with another when Amad Murray forced a fumble on Dederrian Williams which was recovered by Stephen F. Austin's (2-1) Chance Hill. Chris Campos then made a 46-yard field goal for the Lumberjacks. Myles Brooks later picked off Regan and returned it 14 yards for a 24-3 advantage en route to a 38-13 halftime lead.   Trae Self passed for 235 yards with a touchdown, Miles Reed rushed for 71 yards and a score, Chris Campos kicked two field goals and Stephen F. Austin rallied to defeat Tarleton State 20-10 on Saturday night in a season opener for both teams. The Lumberjacks fell into a 10-0 hole but then scored 20 unanswered points over the final 37 minutes. Self found Xavier Gipson for a 35-yard score to make it 10-7 with 6:44 left in the first half. Campos knotted the game at 10-10 with a 22-yard field goal late in the third, added a 43-yarder in the fourth, and Reed scored from the 2.

Tarleton's Steven Duncan was 21-for-33 passing for 242 yards and a TD, but was picked off three times. Duncan put the Texans on the board early, turning a Stephen F. Austin fumble into a two-play scoring drive that lasted just 10 seconds. He capped it with a 35-yard strike to J.F. Thomas. Tarleton's Adrian Guzman added a 36-yard field goal for a 10-0 lead just 10 seconds into the second quarter. From there, the Lumberjacks gained the momentum starting with a Myles Brooks interception of Duncan, leading to Gipson's touchdown catch on the other end. Stephen F.   Jaquarion Turner had a career-best 208 yards rushing, Trae Self accounted for two touchdowns and Stephen F. Austin beat Eastern Kentucky 24-6 on Saturday. Stephen F. Austin (5-3) has a five-game winning streak, its first since 2011. Self ran for a 7-yard touchdown and threw a 30-yard TD pass to Xavier Gipson in the first quarter. Zach Nwachukwu's 22-yard punt return for a touchdown stretched the Lumberjacks' lead to 21-6 late in the third quarter. Turner, a redshirt freshman, had 21 carries, including a 39-yard run to help set up Chris Campos' 24-yard field goal. Self completed 12 of 18 passes for 124 yards. Gipson finished with six catches for 74 yards and 22 yards rushing. Dakota Allen was 14-of-36 passing for 158 yards and threw two interceptions for Eastern Kentucky (2-5).   Tre'Jon Henderson and Jaquarion Turner each ran for two touchdowns and Stephen F. Austin beat overmatched NCAA Division II-member Western Colorado 64-7 on Saturday. Stephen F. Austin (4-3) of the Southland Conference scored five touchdowns and a field goal in the first quarter and led 37-0. Following an early punt, the Mountaineers from Gunnison, Colorado fumbled the ball away on three straight drives and threw an interception, all of which led to Stephen F. Austin scores. The Lumberjacks had four different players complete passes, and between Trae Self, Preston Weeks, Blake Short, and Josh Foskey, the group combined were 31-for-39 passing for 404 yards. Remi Simmons caught four passes for 143 yards and a touchdown and 12-different Lumberjacks players had a reception. Luke Nethercot threw a 15-yard scoring pass to Damian Macias to allow the Mountaineers to avoid the shutout. Nethercot completed 6 of 8 in relief of Connor Desch. - AP College Football

  Trae Self threw for 352 yards and three touchdowns and Stephen F. Austin beat Abilene Christian 35-32 in overtime on Saturday. Self's 16-yard scoring pass to Chad Aune in the extra session served as the game winner. Blair Zepeda's 35-yard field goal in overtime gave the Wildcats their last lead at 32-29. Stephen F. Austin (3-3, 1-0 Southland Conference) scored two touchdowns, one with 2:23 left in regulation and the other with 51 seconds left to force overtime. Abilene Christian (0-3, 0-1) scored with 98 seconds left when Tyrese White ran it in from 3-yards out, and the 2-point conversion made it 29-22 in favor of the Wildcats. That score was set up on Peyton Mansell's short pass to Kobe Clark who ran for the majority of the 78-yard completion. The Lumberjacks countered when Self completed a short pass to Jeremiah Miller for a 62-yard completion. The play set up Self's 5-yard scoring pass to Remi Simmons to tie it.   Xavier Gipson caught two touchdown passes and scored on a punt return to lead Stephen F. Austin to a 31-12 victory over Division-II member Angelo State on Saturday night. Gipson finished with five receptions for 177 yards. His 37-yard punt return for a touchdown helped the Lumberjacks build a 14-10 halftime lead. Trae Self was 11 of 27 for 197 yards passing, and threw touchdown passes of 90 and 76 yards to Gipson. Da'Leon Ward had a 9-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter for the Lumberjacks (2-3).   Trae Self threw two touchdown passes and Stephen F. Austin won its home opener, beating Division II West Texas A&M 34-6 on Saturday. The Lumberjacks (1-3) opened their season with three losses to FBS teams but were up 17-0 after one quarter against the Buffaloes with a 69-yard run by Da'Leon Ward, a 28-yard reception by Xavier Gipson and a Chris Campos field goal. Self's 63-yard pass to Remi Simmons made it 24-3 after three quarters. Campos added another field goal and Jaaquarion Turner a 12-yard rushing TD in the fourth. The Buffaloes' six points came off field goals by Mauricio Gonzalez. Self was 12-of-24 passing for 234 yards with an interception.   Josh McGowen ran 158 yards and a score on 22 carries, Xavier Gipson had seven receptions for 98 yards and a touchdown, and Stephen F. Austin beat Northwestern State 32-20 in the season finale for both teams on Thursday night. Thomas Hutchings added 75 yards rushing, including a 7-yard TD, for Stephen F. Austin. Storm Ruiz made a career-long 54-yard field goal midway through the first quarter and three plays later Gary Sampson recovered a fumble at the Northwestern State 13 to set up Hutchings' touchdown run before Ruiz added a 41-yarder to make it 13-0 going into the second quarter.

McGowen scored on a 20-yard run and, on the first play from scrimmage after the Lumberjacks (2-9, 2-6 Southland Conference) recovered an onside kick, Trae Self hit Gipson in stride for a 55-yard TD to make it 27-0 with 10:39 left in the first half. Shelton Eppler threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Kendrick Price to cut Northwestern State's deficit to 27-7 at halftime but Gary Sampson strip-sacked Eppler for a safety and then Ruiz kicked a 44-yard field goal to make it 32-7 with 8:48 left in the third quarter. Eppler was 27-of-50 passing for 333 yards and two touchdowns and Quan Shorts had nine receptions for 132 yards and a score for Northwestern State (3-8, 3-5). - AP College Football

  Xavier Gipson caught four passes for 132 yards and scored the go-ahead touchdown to help Stephen F. Austin beat Incarnate Word 31-24 on Saturday night. Cam Arnold connected with Gipson in stride on a go route for a 70-yard TD pass that made it 28-21 for the Lumberjacks (2-8, 2-5 Southland) with 13:26 left in the fourth quarter. Storm Ruiz kicked a 38-yard field goal to extend the lead to 31-21. Carson Mohr answered with a 32-yard field goal for the Cardinals (5-5, 4-4) with 5:19 left in the game. Stephen F. Austin took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter after Thomas Hutchings scored on a 2-yard run and Arnold took a 20-yard keeper into the end zone. Incarnate Word scored all three of its touchdowns in the second quarter to lead 21-14 at half. Hutchings scored on a 21-yard run to tie it at 21 early in the third quarter.   Quarterback Trae Self passed for 291 yards but it was running back Da'Leon Ward who threw the winning touchdown as Stephen F. Austin defeated Lamar 24-17 on Saturday night. Trailing for the first time in the game, Stephen F. Austin drove 75 yards in 1:29 and regained the lead when Ward hit Ryan Waugh with a 4-yard pass for the touchdown. Self ran for two points and a 24-17 lead for the Lumberjacks (1-4, 1-1 Southland). Lamar (2-3, 0-2) went ahead 17-16 when Jordan Hoy threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Mason Sikes with 6:44 remaining. The Cardinals' other touchdown came via a 15-yard pick-6 by Kyron Norwood early in the fourth quarter. Hoy completed 19 of 36 passes for 203 yards and matched Myles Wanza with 54 yards for the team rushing lead. Ward led the Lumberjacks with 55 yards rushing with one touchdown.
