Texas Football   Arch Manning passed for four touchdowns and ran for another and No. 7 Texas rebounded from a season-opening loss to defeat San Jose State 38-7 Saturday. Manning was 19 of 30 for 295 yards and one interception in his second game as the starter. He scrambled for a 20-yard touchdown run in the third quarter for Texas (1-1). Last week he completed 10 of 17 for 170 yards with a touchdown and an interception during a 14-7 loss at Ohio State. Wide receiver Parker Livingstone and tight end Jack Endries each had two touchdown receptions in the first half. Manning and Livingstone combined for an 83-yard touchdown, the longest pass play for the Longhorns since 2017. Livingstone finished with four catches for 128 yards.

Earlier in the week, Texas defenders lamented having the 24-game streak of forcing a turnover snapped during the loss at Ohio State. That changed in the first quarter Saturday, when Texas safety Jelani McDonald tipped Walker Eget's pass that Jaylon Guilbeau intercepted, the first of four turnovers by San Jose State (0-2). Eget completed 21 of 42 for 188 yards. Kyri Shoels had eight receptions for 73 yards for the Spartans. Danny Scudero had seven catches for 66 yards. - Texas/AP College Football

Iowa State Football   Kyle Konrardy kicked a 54-yard field goal with 1:52 left to give No. 16 Iowa State a 16-13 win over Iowa on Saturday, the Cyclones' second straight victory against their in-state rival and third in four years. Konrardy kicked a 54-yarder in the final seconds last year to beat the Hawkeyes 20-19. His winning kick this time came after Rocco Becht led the Cyclones on a grinding 55-yard drive that chewed 6 1/2 minutes off the clock. Tamatoa McDonough sacked Mark Gronowski twice on Iowa's last possession, with the Hawkeyes (1-1) turning the ball over on downs.

Iowa State (3-0) won the CyHawk Trophy in Ames for the first time since 2011. Konrardy's field goals of 44 and 27 yards put the Cyclones up 6-0, and Jeremiah Cooper's 24-yard interception return set up a short touchdown pass to Benjamin Brahmer to make it 13-3. Gronowski moved the Hawkeyes 85 yards in 16 plays late in the half, bulling into the end zone from the 2 to pull Iowa to 13-10 at half. Drew Stevens' 36-yard field goal tied it 13-all late in the third quarter. Gronowski was 13 of 24 for 83 yards and Jaziun Patterson led the Hawkeyes with 60 yards on 13 carries. - Iowa State/AP College Football

Illinois Football   Luke Altmyer threw for 296 yards and three touchdowns and No. 11 Illinois capitalized on a series of mistakes by Duke to beat the Blue Devils 45-19 on Saturday for a road win against a power-conference opponent. Kaden Feagin, Hank Beatty and Ca'Lil Valentine ran for scores, while Beatty also had a huge receiving day with eight catches for 128 yards for the Fighting Illini (2-0). Illinois led by just one at halftime but asserted itself from there and outscored Duke 31-6 in what turned into a dominating finish. The key, though was Illinois' opportunism in pouncing on every Duke mistake when the game was close - and boy, there were plenty.

Duke (1-1) committed five turnovers, notably a muffed punt deep in its own end to set up a short field on Illinois' first touchdown and Darian Mensah losing a red-zone fumble in the first half. The miscues also included a penalty for having two players in the game wearing a No. 8 jersey as Illinois punted on a three-and-out to open the second half. That led to a first down on a drive the Illini would ultimately take to the end zone, with Altmyer's 4-yard scoring throw to Justin Bowick for a 21-13 lead that ultimately proved to be merely the start of Illinois' surge. Mensah threw for 334 yards and two touchdowns for Duke. Both went to Andrel Anthony, including a spectacular grab in the back of the end zone with Anthony getting his right toe down barely inbounds 8 seconds before halftime to make it 14-13. - Illinois/AP College Football

Pittsburgh Football   Eli Holstein passed for 304 yards and four touchdowns, including a pair to Raphael Williams Jr. as Pittsburgh surged past Central Michigan 45-17 on Saturday. Holstein hit Williams for a 3-yard touchdown in the first quarter. The two connected again on a pretty 48-yard score late in the third to give the Panthers (2-0) some breathing room after the Chippewas had drawn within seven. Williams later hauled in a 40-yard grab that set up Juelz Goff's 2-yard touchdown run as Pitt avoided the upset after Central Michigan (1-1) hung around deep into the third quarter. Williams finished with six receptions for 121 yards and the two scores.

Holstein completed 21 of 28 but wasn't perfect. He was picked off for the second time in as many weeks when Central Michigan's Jordan Kwiatkowski had an interception that allowed the Chippewas to pull within 24-10 late in the first half. Central Michigan (1-1) got within 24-17 late in the third quarter when Joe Labas found Decorin Temple for a 6-yard touchdown at the end of a long drive in which the Chippewas converted a pair of fourth downs. Pitt responded immediately. Kenny Johnson's 47-yard kickoff return gave the Panthers good field position and two plays later Holstein made a perfect pass while on the run to Williams to restore Pitt's lead to 14. Central Michigan's three-quarterback rotation of Labas, Jadyn Glasser and Angel Flores combined to go 20 of 27 for 177 yards, but the Chippewas couldn't duplicate a second straight impressive road win after knocking off San Jose State last weekend in first-year coach Matt Drinkall's debut. - Pittsburgh/AP College Football

Indiana Football   Fernando Mendoza threw for four touchdowns to lead No. 23 Indiana to a 56-9 rout of Kennesaw State on Saturday. Mendoza, a transfer from University of California, completed 18 of 25 passes for 245 yards. He threw scoring passes of 3, 9 and 20 yards to Elijah Sarratt and an 8-yard strike to E.J. Williams early in the fourth quarter. The Hoosiers held the Owls to two field goals in the first half and led 21-6 at the break. Kennesaw State's Daniel Kinney finished with field goals of 28, 29 and 50 yards. Indiana scored on a 1-yard run by Riley Nowakowski and an 11-yard run by Lee Beebe Jr. in the first half to go with the first of Sarratt's TD catches.   Florida State Football   Tommy Castellanos passed for 237 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Duce Robinson, as No. 14 Florida State routed East Texas A&M 77-3 on Saturday. FSU (2-0) scored on 10 straight drives to open the game and finished with its most points in the Mike Norvell era. The Seminoles' six passing TDs is their most in a game since 2011. Gavin Sawchuk had three touchdowns, including a 53-yard catch-and-run on fourth down that was his first career receiving TD. The Oklahoma transfer also had a pair of 1-yard scoring runs as the Seminoles piled up 361 rushing yards, averaging 7.1 yards per carry.

Robinson had four catches for 160 yards in the first 15 minutes, the most receiving yards by a Florida State player in a quarter in program history. Robinson finished with five catches for 173 yards and two scores, including an impressive one-handed snag. Earl Little Jr. and Jerry Wilson each had interceptions in the first half that led to Florida State touchdowns. - Florida State/AP College Football

Lehigh Football   Luke Yoder ran for 127 yards and was one of four Lehigh players to score a rushing touchdown in the Mountain Hawks' 28-10 victory over Sacred Heart on Saturday. Lehigh scored the last 21 points of the first half to take a 21-7 lead. All three of those touchdowns came on the ground, with Yoder going 28 yards, Jaden Green 10 yards and Hayden Johnson 20 yards. The Mountain Hawks, ranked No. 13 in the FCS coaches poll, totaled 286 rushing yards and have now gained 100-plus rushing yards in 22 consecutive games. Matt Machalik added a 2-yard touchdown run on the first play of the fourth quarter for the Mountain Hawks.

Sacred Heart's Dean Hangey returned the opening kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown, but the Pioneers (1-1) managed only 177 yards and a 32-yard field goal by Matt King on offense. Sacred Heart's only touchdown on offense so far this season came in a 12-7 win over Stonehill on Aug. 30. While starting the season 2-0, Lehigh has held both opponents - Sacred Heart and Richmond - to less than 200 yards of offense. - AP College Football

Texas AM Football   Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed left the game against Utah State in the third quarter Saturday after landing awkwardly at the end of a run. Reed lost his footing and fell during a scramble before being hit by a defender while down. He remained down on the field for a bit and trainers rushed out to tend to him. He got up after a couple of minutes and walked to the sideline. Reed was in the medical tent for a few minutes before coming out and jogging off the field with trainers. There was no immediate update on his condition. Texas A&M led 37-14 when Reed left with about four minutes to go in the third quarter. - AP College Football

Duquesne Football   Tyler Riddell threw five touchdown passes in the first half and Duquesne rolled to a 55-14 win over Division II Lincoln (Pa) on Saturday for the Dukes' 18th-straight home-opening win. Shawn Solomon had a 24-yard touchdown run between Riddell's short touchdown passes to B.J. Alexander and Joey Isabella for a 21-0 lead. After a Lincoln score, Riddell threw three more scores, including a second to Isabella, to make it 41-7 at the half as the Dukes scored on all six possessions.

Riddell finished 15 of 20 for 239 yards. Combined with two other quarterbacks, Duquesne (1-1) was 22 of 29 for 307 yards. Three running backs had between 40 and 50 yards as the Dukes added another 177 yards on the ground. Hamas Duren threw two touchdown passes for Lincoln (1-1), finishing 19 of 34 for 191 yards.   Penn State Football   Drew Allar completed 19 of 33 passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns and No. 2 Penn State beat Florida International 34-0 on Saturday. Devonte Ross and Khalil Dinkins caught touchdown passes, Kaytron Allen and Nicholas Singleton ran for scores and Ryan Barker kicked two field goals for the Nittany Lions (2-0), who shook off a sluggish first half and beat their second-straight Group of Five opponent. Linebacker Tony Rojas made 10 tackles, Alonzo Ford intercepted a pass and Penn State's defense notched its first shutout since a 56-0 win over Kent State last year. Initially, neither offense could sustain a possession as steady rain pounded Beaver Stadium's natural grass early. The Panthers (1-1) punted twice, had another punt blocked, turned the ball over on downs and had a solid drive spoiled in Penn State's end when Ford picked off an errant Keyone Jenkins screen pass. But, Penn State couldn't turn the Panthers' miscues into points.

The Nittany Lions gave it away on downs twice, punted once and had a field goal blocked in the first half. They were able to convert on their second possession late in the second quarter when Dinkins hauled in a 9-yard touchdown pass from Allar. Barker added a 41-yard field goal later in the second as the rain slowed. He was blocked on a 53-yard try nine plays later by Jessiah McGrew as Penn State went into halftime with a 10-0 lead. The Nittany Lions got a 34-yarder from Barker that made it 13-0 early in the second half. Allar and Ross made it 20-0 on Penn State's next possession when Ross sprinted for the corner of the end zone and battled through Ashton Levells' pass interference to catch a 42-yard touchdown pass with 4:44 left in the third. Allen finished with 144 yards on 16 carries, including a 67-yard touchdown in the fourth. Singleton scored from 5 yards out with 1:19 to play. - Penn State/AP College Football

North Carolina State Football   CJ Bailey rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another as North Carolina State defeated visiting Virginia 35-31 on Saturday in a non-league clash between two Atlantic Coast Conference teams. Bailey, the sophomore quarterback for the Wolfpack (2-0), completed 16-of-22 passes for 200 yards and rushed for 44 yards on six carries. N.C. State's offense was also bolstered by Hollywood Smothers, who rumbled ahead for 136 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Virginia (1-1) was powered by J'Mari Taylor's 150 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries. Chandler Morris completed 30-of-43 passes for 257 yards and a score.

After falling behind by 10 points, N.C. State's offense sprang to life in the second half, outscoring Virginia 21-7 in the third quarter thanks to two rushing touchdowns from Smothers and one by Bailey. The Wolfpack held the Cavaliers scoreless in the final frame, and got a crucial stop on fourth-and-1 on the 8-yard line with 6:39 to play, paving the way for N.C. State to drain more than four minutes off the clock. The win was sealed when N.C. State's Cian Slone intercepted a desperate throw by Morris in the end zone. - NC State/AP College Football

Texas Tech Football   Behren Morton threw for three touchdowns, big defensive tackle Skyler Gill-Howard returned an interception 55 yards for a score and No. 24 Texas Tech blew out another overmatched opponent, beating Kent State 62-14 on Saturday. Cameron Dickey had two rushing TDs and Reggie Virgil added two receiving scores as the Red Raiders (2-0) led 48-0 at halftime, one point better than the margin at the break a week ago in a 67-7 victory over FCS member Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Morton started Saturday after leaving the victory over Pine Bluff in the second quarter with what coach Joey McGuire described as a hyperextended knee. Morton, who had been listed as questionable, was 18 of 26 for 258 yards while playing only the first half.

Dru DeShields threw for a touchdown and ran for a score in the fourth quarter for the Golden Flashes (1-1), who ended a 21-game losing streak with a 21-17 victory over Merrimack in their opener. Kent State had negative total yards until Gavin Garcia ran 38 yards on a screen pass on its sixth possession early in the second quarter. Two plays later, Gill-Howard took his interception the other way for a 38-0 lead. The 290-pounder from Northern Illinois, part of Texas Tech's highly touted transfer class, made the catch behind the line of scrimmage and scored untouched after Lee Hunter applied quick pressure and A.J.   Minnesota Football   John Nestor had a pick-six on the game's first offensive play and Minnesota scored five first-quarter touchdowns en route to overwhelming FCS Northwestern State 66-0 Saturday. With the severe weather in the area, the game ended with 6:15 left in the fourth quarter. Minnesota amassed 484 yards of offense and scored its most points in a game since 2001. Drake Lindsey was 8 of 9 for 139 yards in his five series. Ten running backs had carries, led by Grant Washington's 126 yards. However, Minnesota's top ballcarrier left the game early with an apparent injury. Darius Taylor ran out of bounds and immediately reached for the back of his right leg and fell to the ground. He gingerly walked back to the bench but did not return. The junior ran for 141 yards in a season-opening 23-10 win over Buffalo.

His presence was not needed against the Demons, who ended a 20-game losing streak by beating Alcorn State Aug. 28 and were playing a Big Ten foe for the first time in school history. Six seconds into the game, Nestor jumped an out route and returned an interception 29 yards for a touchdown. A.J. Turner and Le'Meke Brockington had short rushing scores to make it 21-0 Minnesota less than 10 minutes into the game. Matt Kingsbury returned a fumble 25 yards to the end zone to make it 35-0 before the first quarter expired. The 35 points is the highest in any quarter by Minnesota since at least 1973, per the school. Eight Gophers scored first-half touchdowns and Brady Denaburg had a 27-yard field goal for a 59-0 halftime lead. Northwestern State finished with 42 yards of offense. - Minnesota/AP College Football

Texas AM Football   Texas A&M's Cashius Howell sacked Utah State quarterback Bryson Barnes on three consecutive plays in the second quarter Saturday. Utah State had the ball on its 25 early in the second quarter when the defensive end muscled past left tackle Jake Eichorn and dropped Barnes for a loss of 6 yards for 19th-ranked Texas A&M. On the next play, Howell got past Eichorn again to take Barnes down for a loss of 7 yards. Bullying past Eichorn one more time, Howell sacked Barnes for a loss of 8 yards to bring up fourth-and-31 and single-handedly force a punt. Howell, a fifth-year senior, entered the game with 15 1/2 career sacks and had just four last season. His career best came in 2023 when he had 9 1/2 for Bowling Green. It's the first time a player has had sacks on three straight plays since Jack Cichy did it for Wisconsin against Southern California in the 2015 Holiday Bowl, according to research by the Texas A&M communications staff. - AP College Football

Southern Methodist Football   SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings had two 75-yard touchdowns while completing all 10 of his passes Saturday in the first half of the 17th-ranked Mustangs' first game against former Southwest Conference rival Baylor since 2016. Those two long TDs accounted for 150 of Jennings' 236 yards passing by halftime, when SMU led 24-21. The first snap of the game was Jennings' TD to Romello Brinson, who reached out with his left hand and deflected the ball back to himself near the 40 after Baylor cornerback Levar Thornton Jr. jumped in front of him and got his hands on it.

Brinson had a 63-yard touchdown catch from Jennings on the third play of SMU's 42-13 win over East Texas A&M in the season opener last Saturday. Jennings got his other 75-yard TD against Baylor, also on the first play of a drive, when he found Jalen Cooper open behind the Baylor secondary and hit the freshman in stride near the 40. That put the Mustangs up 24-14 with 4:49 left in second quarter. - AP College Football
