Multiple short-term injuries and ailments along Oregon's offensive line allowed freshman Josh Conerly Jr. to practice with the first-team. It's a massive opportunity for the 6-foot-4, 294 pound Conerly. A former five-star recruit who joined the Ducks over the summer, it was going to be difficult to keep Conerly off the two-deep to start the season based on talent alone and it won't be at all surprising if he's listed as the backup left tackle on Oregon's depth chart for the season opener against Georgia. "I think Josh is going to be a really good player for the Ducks," Oregon coach Dan Lanning said. "I think he's going to be a phenomenal player for us; he's shown that. He has a worker's mentality, he has a growth mindset. When his time comes I think he'll be prepared for it and that could be relatively soon. We'll see." By working with the starting unit Conerly has gotten to face off with Oregon's top defensive linemen, which has meant multiple one-on-ones with Brandon Dorlus.

The fourth-year defensive end said the true freshman isn't beating him in any reps just yet, but was complimentary of how Conerly is carrying himself in his first fall camp. "Usually when you come in as a freshmen and you lose reps you get in your head and you stop working and it's over with," Dorlus said. "Him, he's lost plenty of reps but it's crazy because he's come back and he's worked on it. You can tell he's really trying to play this year as a young guy. It's tough to play left tackle as a freshman, especially in the Pac-12. Josh Conerly, he's a dog. He has a great work mentality and I love going against him; me and him go at it everyday." - The Oregonian
