With his health back and an opening in the slot, Trent Whittemore is primed to play a more prominent role in Florida's receiving corps this season. After redshirting in 2019, the Gainesville native appeared in seven games last fall and had one of the best catches of the year vs. South Carolina. He also hauled in his first career touchdown against the Gamecocks and finished 2020 with 10 receptions for 128 yards. Best of all, he learned behind first-round pick Kadarius Toney, who produced the most single-season receiving yards (984) by a Gator since Riley Cooper in 2009.

"I was in a bit of a backup role to KT and it was just unbelievable to watch him every day in practice and in games. His poise, skill, obviously, and just gain from his experience," Whittemore said. "It was just great to be in that rotation, to get experienced for myself, catching balls from Kyle [Trask]. "I made a couple plays early in the year that were great for my confidence. It was a great experience to be out there on the field in big games, and it's something I can draw on in the years to come." Whittemore would have made more plays if not for the broken rib and punctured lung he suffered against Arkansas. He returned for the regular season finale after missing five games, but it took him longer to fully recover from the injury. - The Gainesville Sun
