In Arkansas defensive back Greg Brooks' mind, there is no doubt who has led the Razorbacks and controlled workouts since players reconvened in January. KJ Jefferson, who second-year coach Sam Pittman named the frontrunner at quarterback prior to the start of spring drills, has been that guy. And he is embracing his expanded role following a season as the understudy to Feleipe Franks. "He's been leading the team each and every day," Brooks said Tuesday. "You can tell it's his team. He's going to lead us in the right direction." A redshirt sophomore, Jefferson provided plenty of optimism for the future at quarterback in Arkansas' 50-48 loss at Missouri last season. Starting in place of an injured Franks, he passed for a career-high 274 yards and three touchdowns, and added 32 yards rushing and a score.

Razorbacks coaches are hopeful the gutsy road performance will serve as a springboard as the fall approaches. The feeling of knowing he has the trust of Arkansas' staff is indescribable. "I feel like my spring has been going pretty awesome," Jefferson said Tuesday. "Just enjoying taking it in, and this being my first spring, I'm just soaking it all in. "Coming in, after Feleipe left I knew I was the next guy in charge, so at the winter workouts I just had to come in with a mindset that it was my team and I had to take over the team from Day 1. Keep that confidence and leadership, and consistency also, all the way up." - Northwest Arkansas Times
