Meeting with UTSA running back Sincere McCormick less than 24 hours after his 37-carry game against Louisiana Tech, coach Jeff Traylor borrowed a line longtime coach Bum Phillips once said about Hall of Fame back Earl Campbell. "I think Earl carried it 40 times one game, and they asked Bum about it, and Bum's response was, 'The ball isn't that heavy, is it?'" Traylor said. "I gave him that analogy. He thought that was funny." The joke proved to be more fitting than Traylor anticipated, as McCormick on Tuesday was named the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Player of the Week after running for 165 yards and three touchdowns Saturday in UTSA's 27-26 win. McCormick was also named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. "When it comes to awards, I'm just humble," McCormick said. "Hard work pays off, and it clearly shows. I'm grateful, and I'm going to keep working."

McCormick said his focus since Saturday has been taking a "pro mentality" toward recovery. Sunday included contrast bath therapy - three minutes of hot water, followed by one minute in an ice tub - a light workout and stretching. Feeling "kind of heavy" to start the season, McCormick said he worked to become one of UTSA's top performers in practice, drawing praise from Traylor for the metrics he posts on the Roadrunners' tracking data. McCormick said he entered Tuesday's practice feeling "fresh." - Express-News
