Draft Scout College Football Player News

C.J. Avery has been writing down his goals since he was in high school. Back in November 2014, he had a list of seven, which included to sign and play Division I football. In August 2015, he had a similar list and included being named all-state. That's a practice he continues. On the ceiling of his Louisville apartment, the Grenada, Mississippi native has a list of goals he looks at every day. On it are to be an All-American and an All-ACC honoree and reach the NFL. Those haven't been accomplished, yet, but a week and a half ago, he checked a different one off: "Graduate college in three years."

The night of April 29, Avery, who is back home in Mississippi currently, finished his last class of undergrad. A sense of accomplishment came over him as he stood up from the table and asked his mother, Claudette Avery, "Can I just scream right now?" "It wasn't relief because I'll keep doing school, but it felt good knowing I completed something that a lot of people haven't done," Avery said. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he won't have a graduation ceremony, but that doesn't take away from his accomplishment. Avery is now the first four-year college graduate in his household, graduating with a degree in sports administration. - Courier Journal
