 Bryce Hall, Virginia, Player News

  03/26/20 - CB Bryce HallSr/2020, Virginia, 6-1, 202 (DS#11 CB) + More +

When Bryce Hall was carted off the field last October at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium, it was clear almost immediately that his Virginia football career had ended. Moreover, there had to be questions about the future of an All-ACC cornerback who had clearly attracted the interest of NFL scouts up to that point. Hall accepted an invitation to the NFL Combine but was unable to work out after earlier undergoing surgery for a collection of injuries, including a broken fibula, torn deltoid ligaments and a dislocated ankle. "The first time I really got a prognosis was a week before I went to the combine," said Hall of an event that was held the last week of February.

"The doctors and my [personal trainer] said I should be 100% by training camp. "Within the past couple of weeks, I started to see a lot of progress in terms of me starting to do some running, some cutting, some jumping stuff. Lately, that's been encouraging. For a while, I really had progressed slowly." "What I've been hearing from a lot of coaches is that they realize the status that I'm at," Hall said. "They've been paying attention to my film. "I've had meetings set up with coaches, so I feel like they've really got the chance to know me and what I'm about. I think, at the end of the day, the film speaks the most." "It would have been nice to show them something, but I'm still confident in what they know and what they're looking for from me." - Roanoke Times

Virginia All-American cornerback Bryce Hall will miss the rest of the season following left ankle surgery. Hall was injured while covering a punt in the second quarter of the Cavaliers' 17-9 loss at Miami on Friday night. The senior had surgery Sunday, and coach Bronco Mendenhall says the recovery timeline is uncertain. Hall last year led the nation is pass breakups with 22 and tied for the lead with 24 passes defended. Mendenhall calls Hall an "amazing" person who has had a "huge impact" on the program. The coach says junior De'Vante Cross will start in Hall's absence. Cross came to Virginia as a quarterback and has also played wide receiver and safety for the Cavaliers. - AP College Football

Virginia preseason All-American cornerback Bryce Hall suffered an injury to his lower left leg and was taken off the field on a cart during the second quarter of the 20th-ranked Cavaliers' game at Miami on Friday night. Hall was injured while on punt coverage. An air cast was placed around the leg. All of Virginia's players gathered around the cart just before Hall was taken off the field, and several Miami players jogged over to offer him well-wishes. Hall was making his 39th consecutive start, which the Cavaliers said was the longest such streak in the nation among cornerbacks. He led all FBS players with 22 pass breakups last season, then elected to return for his senior year. - AP College Football

The Virginia Cavaliers have been tabbed as the preseason favorite to win the Atlantic Coast Conference's Coastal Division, according to a poll of 173 media members credentialed for last week's 2019 ACC Kickoff in Charlotte, N.C. It is the first time since the ACC went to two divisions in 2005 that the Cavaliers have been the media's preseason pick to win the division.

Virginia received 82 first-place votes and amassed 1,003 total points. The Cavaliers placed just 11 points ahead of Miami (55 first-place votes, 992 points), while Virginia Tech finished third in the voting with 20 first-place votes and 827 points. Since the ACC went to divisions in 2005, the previous highest media predicted finish for the Cavaliers in the Coastal Division was third in 2005. Prior to divisions, UVA was the media's choice to win the league title in 1990. The Cavaliers went on to tie for second that season. - Virginia Football
