Justin Miller threw for 154 yards, Isaiah Wooden rushed for 99 yards and Southern Utah beat Sam Houston 17-7 on Saturday. Miller had one touchdown and one interception for Southern Utah (5-6, 2-3 Western Athletic Conference). Elijah Burns capped the scor ing with a 2-yard score with 6:22 left in the third quarter. Trapper Pannell was intercepted two times for Sam Houston (5-4, 3-2). He threw for 127 yards and carried it 21 times for 147 yards and another score. Southern Utah's Rodrick Ward intercepted a tipped pass and returned it 8 yards, and Davin Wilson was the only player within 10 yards of him for an easy pick in the fourth quarter. - Southern Utah/AP College Football

Justin Miller threw four touchdowns passes and Southern Utah beat Division II-member Lincoln University (Calif.) 55-0 on Saturday. Miller was 22-of-25 passing for 208 yards. He threw two touchdown passes to Brennon Hutchings and one each to Marcus Philli ps Jr. and Tim Patrick Jr. Southern Utah (3-6) put up 450 yards of offense while holding Lincoln to 74 yards and just four first downs. SEPT 5 WAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Justin Miller, R-Jr., QB, Southern Utah (Sept. 5),...Miller, a redshirt junior quarterback, was an offensive force for Southern Utah in a 44-13 rout of St. Thomas (Minn.) to open the season on Sept. 1. Miller comp leted 23-of-35 (65.7 percent) of his passes for 364 yards and three touchdowns with no turnovers for the Thunderbirds. Miller finished the first half an impressive 14-of-20 for 246 yards and added a 64-yard touchdown through the air to open a 20-7 halfti me lead for Southern Utah. - WAC Football

Justin Miller completed 29 of 37 passes for 352 and two touchdowns, Elijah Burns and Bobby Cole each ran for a TD and Southern Utah beat Utah Tech 31-17 Saturday night. Utah Tech (1-3, 0-1 Western Athletic Conference) failed to convert a fourth-and-7 pla y from the SUU 35 and, on the next play, Justin Miller hit Isaiah Wooden down the left sideline for a 65-yard catch-and-run touchdown to make it 14-7 with 11:56 left in the first half and Southern Utah led the rest of the way. Miller went 4 for 4 on thir d downs - hitting four different targets for first downs - on a 16-play, 82-yard drive that culminated when Ethan Bolingbroke caught a 3-yard touchdown pass with 15 seconds left in the second quarter and make it 24-10. Kobe Tracy was 19-of-36 passing for 277 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions for Utah Tech (formerly known as Dixie State). - AP College Football

Justin Miller hit Isaiah Wooden with a 73-yard touchdown pass with 33 seconds remaining to give Southern Utah a 17-10 win on Saturday over Western Illinois. Western Illinois had tied the game 21 seconds earlier. Miller found Wooden wide open deep down th e left side for the game-winner. The Leathernecks (0-3) had tied the game on Clay Bruno's 5-yard keeper after driving WIU 73 yards. The Thunderbirds (2-1) had six takeaways with four interceptions and two fumble recoveries.Southern Utah took advan tage of a short field to score first on Micah Pettit's 27-yard field goal. The Thunderbirds made it 10-0 in the final minute of the first quarter after Julian Sanderlin's fumble recovery led to Elijah Burns' 5-yard touchdown two plays later. Miller was 2 0-of-33 passing with 194 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Bruno had 219 passing yards and 70 rushing but threw three of the picks. Justin Miller threw for 364 yards and three touchdowns and Southern Utah beat St. Thomas (MN) 44-13 in a season opener Thursday night. Cade Sexauer threw for 207 yards and a touchdown and interception while Hope Adebayo ran for 73 yards on seven carries for St. Thomas. The debut win for head coach DeLane Fitzgerald ended an eight-game losing streak for Southern Utah. The team hadn't won since defeating Tarleton, 40-35 on Sept. 18, 2020. It was the Thunderbirds' first season-opening win since 2013 when t hey beat South Alabama 22-21. The Tommies, who made their first trip to Utah, are in their second season as a Division I program. Justin Miller threw four touchdown passes and Karris Davis scored the go-ahead touchdown with 1:34 remaining as FCS-member Southern Utah defeated Tarleton State 40-35 on Saturday night. Tarleton's loss came despite a 95-yard go-ahead drive capped by a St even Duncan 27-yard pass to Daniel Wright Jr. for a 35-34 lead with 6:09 remaining. After an exchange of punts, Southern Utah drove 54 yards for Davis' game-winning TD. An interception by La'akea Kaho'Ohanohano-Davis helped seal the win for the Thunderbi rds.The score was tied at 28 at halftime before SUU took the lead 34-28 on a 6-yard run by David Moore III late in the third quarter. For the Thunderbirds (1-2), Miller finished 24-of-35 passing for 304 yards. Duncan was 18 of 27 for 256 yards pas sing for the Texans (1-2). Both had four touchdown passes and two interceptions. AUG 30 BIG SKY FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: The Southern Utah trio of Justin Miller, Kobe Singleton and Jake Gerardi were named the ROOT SPORTS Big Sky Football Players of the Week, as the Thunderbirds were rewarded for their efforts in Week 0. The weekly honors are the first for SUU since Manny Berz won Special Teams Player of the Week on March 14, 2021, this past spring. The recognitions are also the first for all three Thunderbirds in their collegiate careers. Quarterback Justin Miller was the top offensive performer for the Thunderbirds this past Saturday, as he passed for 117 yards and caught a touchdown pass off a trick play for the first official touchdown for the Big Sky in 2021. - Big Sky Football
