2022 ALL-ACC FOOTBALL THIRD TEAM: DE - Yaya Diaby, Louisville, 65 votes,...Diaby made the biggest jump in production from 2021. Recording 1.5 sacks last year, Diaby finished his senior season with 33 tackles, 7.5 sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss. He was the Cards' lone selection to the Reese's Senior Bowl in January. - Louisville Football

  04/03/21 - DE YaYa DiabyrSr/2023, Louisville, 6-3, 263 (DS#11 DE) + More +

A newcomer last season, Diaby was an impact player for the Cardinals when he was on the field. He tallied 18 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss in eight games. He missed a few games with an injury and was also part of the defensive line that was out due to COVID-19 protocols. That set him back, he said. But he came into the spring with a new mentality and it's helped him. "I just put in my mind that last season as not a big season for me. I had to adjust myself and tell myself that I needed to come this spring with a better mentality and eager to play and perform better for my team," Diaby said. Diaby is a lock to start at defensive end again next season, barring any kind of injury, and Ivey expects a lot out of the Atlanta native.

He's added about 12 pounds of muscle, but has been more explosive and agile throughout the practices. "I expect an outrageous year out of Yaya as long as he keeps competing like he is," Ivey said. "In my opinion he's one of the guys that is in the hunt for conference and whatever it is. He should be an amazing player this year." Entering the 2021 season, his redshirt junior year, Diaby has high hopes of himself, as well. He knows in order to accomplish those goals, he has to put the work in starting now. By all accounts, he's done just that. "I feel like I've been more consistent and that's all I've been trying to be. Be more consistent, violent and come off the ball strong," he said. - Courier Journal

  03/09/21 - DE YaYa DiabyrSr/2023, Louisville, 6-3, 263 (DS#11 DE) + More +

Louisville is five practices into its spring session and defensive line coach Mark Ivey has been impressed by his group. The Cardinals return every defensive lineman from last year, with the exception of starting nose tackle Jared Goldwire. The All-ACC honorable mention honoree from last year entered the NFL Draft instead of using his extra year of eligibility. Still with so many players back, and the addition of five freshmen, Louisville is hopeful its defensive line can take a step forward and get more pressure on the quarterback.

One player making a strong impression through the first full week of practice is defensive end Yaya Diaby. Diaby, a former junior college All-American, was dominant through the first week of practice, Ivey said, and has continued that dominance into the second week. "He's been much more consistent, but when he makes up his mind to go there's not much you can do with him," Ivey said. - Courier Journal
