According to ESPN, Washington was the first FCS player since Villanova's Brian Westbrook in 1998 to accomplish that feat against a current Power Five team. - AP College Football

  SEPT 6 SOCON FOOTBALL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Montrell Washington, Sr., WR/KR, Samford, Canton, Ga.,...Samford wide receiver/kick returner Montrell Washington returned a punt 62 yards for a touchdown as part of an incredible all-around performance in the Bulldogs' 52-14 win over Tennessee Tech on Thursday. The senior from Canton, Georgia, had three punt returns for 69 yards (23 yards per return) and added 22 yards on a pair of kickoff returns (11 yards per return). Washington also caught seven passes for 128 yards and rushed once for 26 yards to total 245 all-purpose yards on the day, the second-most of the FCS week. Washington's play also netted him Stats Perform National Special Teams Player of the Week honors.   SEPT 6 STATS FCS NATIONAL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Montrell Washington, Samford, WR/RS, R-Sr., 5-10, 170, Canton, Georgia,...Washington went 62 yards for a touchdown on his first punt return of the season, part of a huge all-around performance in Samford's 52-14 triumph over Tennessee Tech. His 245 all-purpose yards were the second-most of the FCS week, coming on three punt returns for 69 yards, two kickoff returns for 22 yards, seven receptions for 128 yards and one carry for 26 yards. He returned one punt for a 59-yard touchdown late in the first quarter of the team's game at Western Carolina, turning the momentum and helping lead the Bulldogs to a 31-13 win. For his efforts, Washington was named the Southern Conference's Special Teams Player of the Week. Washington also returned kickoffs for Samford, returning seven kicks for an average of 22.1 yards per return.   NOV 18 SOCON SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Montrell Washington, Samford, Jr., WR/KR, Canton, Ga.,...Samford wide receiver/kick returner Montrell Washington produced one of the biggest plays in the Bulldogs' 31-13 win at Western Carolina on Saturday. With Samford trailing 10-0 in the first quarter, Washington returned a punt 59 yards for a touchdown, getting the Bulldogs on the board and swinging moment in the contest. The junior from Canton, Georgia, also returned one kick for 21 yards and caught an eight-yard pass to total 88 all-purpose yards on the afternoon. Washington's punt return for a score was just the second in the league this season.
