 Terrell Lewis, Alabama, Player News

  05/26/20 - DE Terrell LewisrJr/2020, Alabama, 6-5, 262 (DS#4 DE) + More +

Terrell Lewis was the eighth of the nine players selected from Alabama in the NFL Draft last month. But the Los Angeles Rams think they might have gotten the best the Crimson Tide had to offer this year when they acquired the outside linebacker with a third-round choice. Rams general manager Les Snead cited Alabama coach Nick Saban and his Crimson Tide staff as the basis for that notion. During a video presentation this month for the team's season-ticket holders, Snead recounted how a scouting report from Alabama's 2018 spring practice stuck with him from among the thousands of words the Rams' scouts wrote about Lewis.

"Amongst all those five-stars and all the draftees they've had over the last few years," Snead said, "there was one sentence where, either (scout) Billy (Johnson) or Ted (Monago) wrote, the staff ranked Alabama players one through 125 or however many they have out there on that practice field, they ranked Terrell one and (quarterback) Tua (Tagovailoa) second. I remember ad nauseum of really trying to figure out this player and work through him, that sentence and that piece of data definitely resonated. A very astute staff that's won a lot of games and has seen a lot of talent put this five-star as their most talented player on the team." Johnson, an area scout for the Rams, said Saban's opinion carried weight proportional to the coach's status in college football. "Alabama's the mecca," Johnson said. "It's the land of the five-stars. You can go out there as a scout and just start drooling. Everybody looks good. You definitely listen if he says something. You're going to write it down and probably put it in a report, that's for sure." - Birmingham News

Terrell Lewis' long path to the NFL finally ended in the third round. The former Alabama outside linebacker was selected by Los Angeles Rams with the 84th pick of the NFL draft. He is the eighth Alabama player taken in the 2020 draft that began Thursday. The Washington D.C. product missed a significant amount of time in his Alabama career. An arm injury in the 2017 opener against Florida State sidelined him 10 games before returning for the postseason run. He made a sack in overtime of the national title game win over Georgia, putting him in position for a big 2018 fall. A torn ACL suffered before that season sidelined him until 2019. - Birmingham News

Alabama's injuries continue to pile up. Linebacker Terrell Lewis missed the game with a hyperextended knee, but Saban said he's expected back to practice by Tuesday. Christopher Allen started in his place. Nose guard DJ Dale was helped to the locker room late in the first half with a patella tendon strain. "Doc thinks he may be OK," Saban said. Placekicker Will Reichard left the game after a kickoff in the first quarter with a pulled hip flexor and Joseph Bulovas handled the duties after that. Saban labeled him as questionable against Mississippi next weekend. - AP College Football
