  01/02/21 - QB *Davis MillsrJr/2021, Stanford, 6-4, 217 (DS#6 QB) + More +

Stanford senior quarterback Davis Mills announced on Thursday that he will enter the 2021 NFL draft. "To everyone who has impacted my time at Stanford - Coach (David) Shaw, Coach (Tavita) Pritchard, the rest of the coaching staff, strength staff, trainers, and everyone involved within the program - thank you for your belief and investment in me, and for helping to prepare me for the ultimate goal," Mills wrote in announcing his decision.

In 13 games (11 starts) over the past two seasons, Mills completed 287-of-436 (65.8%) of passes for 3,468 yards and 18 touchdowns. He was named honorable mention All-Pac-12 in 2019 after finishing with 1,508 passing yards and 10 total touchdowns. His 301.6 yards per game were the second most in the Pac-12. - Oakland Tribune

Davis Mills threw for 428 yards and three touchdowns, including a 14-yard score to Simi Fehoko in the second overtime as Stanford defeated UCLA 48-47 at the Rose Bowl Saturday night in the season finale for both teams. The win capped a long three-week road trip for Stanford (4-2), who had to leave campus after Santa Clara County prohibited contact sports due to COVID-19.

After Fehoko's TD, the Bruins got the ball one more time. Chase Griffin, who came on for the injured Dorian Thompson-Robinson in the second quarter, threw a 21-yard touchdown to Kyle Phillips on fourth-and-18. UCLA (3-4) went for the 2-point conversion, but Brittain Brown was stopped short of the end zone. Mills, who completed 32 of 47 passes, bounced back from three second-half interceptions, including a 39-yard pick-6 to Jay Shaw that gave UCLA a 34-20 lead with 5:39 remaining. But the Cardinal scored on their final two drives to force overtime All three of Mills' TD passes were to Fehoko, including a 21-yarder with 18 seconds remaining in regulation. Fehoko finished with 16 receptions for 230 yards. - AP College Football

  12/12/20 - QB *Davis MillsrJr/2021, Stanford, 6-4, 217 (DS#6 QB) + More +

Davis Mills passed for 292 yards and a touchdown, and ran for two scores to lead Stanford to a 27-24 victory over Oregon State on Saturday night. Mills completed 21 of 29 passes and did not commit a turnover. Austin Jones added 126 yards rushing for the Cardinal (3-2), who have been in road-warrior mentality the past three weeks. Jet Toner's 39-yard field goal with 1:48 remaining broke a 24-24 tie and the Cardinal defense forced a turnover to seal the victory.

The Beavers (2-4) were in position to tie or win the game on their final possession, but quarterback Chance Nolan fumbled after an 11-yard run and Stanford linebacker Curtis Robinson recovered at the Cardinal's 16-yard line to seal the win. The play was reviewed and confirmed. It was a tough ending for Nolan, who performed well in his second career start in place of injured starter Tristan Gebbia, who had season-ending surgery on his hamstring this week. Nolan completed 17 of 30 for 221 yards and three touchdowns. - Stanford/AP College Football

Austin Jones rushed for a pair of first-half touchdowns, Davis Mills threw a 3-yard scoring pass to Scooter Harrington early in the second half, and Stanford held off No. 23 Washington's second-half comeback in a 31-26 victory Saturday. A crazy week for Stanford that saw the Cardinal forced away from campus in California to continue their season ended with their first victory over the Huskies in Seattle since 2014. Stanford relocated its entire program from the Bay Area to Seattle this week, used a high school for practice and even had its Friday walkthrough in a public park in the suburb of Bellevue, just across Lake Washington from Husky Stadium. The Cardinal (2-2 Pac-12) will remain on the road before next week's game against Oregon State. Mills was solid and had a pair of huge third-down conversion throws on Stanford's final drive, hitting Semi Fehoko on both to convert third-and-10 and third-and-11. The Cardinal ran the final 7:54 off the clock with a 14-play drive that was capped by Jones' 3-yard run on fourth-and-1. Stanford was 10 of 13 on third downs and 2-for-2 on fourth down. Mills was 20 of 30 passing for 252 yards. Jones finished with 138 yards on 31 carries. - Stanford/AP College Football

Stanford players danced, hooted and hollered on California's home turf in Memorial Stadium. The Cardinal came together and posed for a group photo in front of card stunts in the bleachers above featuring a message "Our axe" that came from the opposing side. They cradled the actual axe trophy that was now theirs again. Austin Jones ran for a pair of short touchdowns, Mills threw for 205 yards and a TD, and Stanford blocked a would-be tying extra point in the final minute to take back The Axe by beating Bay Area rival Cal 24-23 in the Big Game on Friday. Stanford special teams did a little bit of everything - capitalizing on a muffed punt, blocking a field goal moments before halftime, then Thomas Booker getting an elbow on Dario Longhetto's PAT attempt at the end for an impressive showing by a unit that has been a focal point during this strange season. - Stanford/AP College Football

Stanford quarterback Davis Mills was unavailable Saturday at No. 12 Oregon because of coronavirus testing results and contract tracing procedures. The Cardinal also said defensive end Trey LaBounty and wide receiver Connor Wedington were unavailable. The university did not specify whether the players tested positive for COVID-19 and offered no other details. But Wedington said on Twitter: "I got contact traced, I tested negative for COVID." Mills started six games last season, throwing for 1,960 yards and 11 touchdowns. He set a school record with 504 passing yards against the Cougars. Mills' backup was junior Jack West, who played in two games with one start last season and completed 15 of 32 passes for 143 yards. - AP College Football

Mills threw for 1,960 yards with 11 touchdowns and five interceptions last season. He opened with wins over Oregon State and Washington but ended the year with losses to Washington State, Cal and Notre Dame. He's got arm talent but some of Mills' situational splits from last season are concerning, particularly on third downs. If Stanford is going to continue to lean on possession and running on offense, that's problematic for an older quarterback. - The Oregonian

Is redshirt junior Davis Mills the next great Stanford quarterback? The top-ranked quarterback in his class by Scout and Rivals, and the top-ranked pro-style quarterback by 247Sports, Mills already holds the school record for passing yards in a game. He threw for 504 yards last year against Washington State, completing 33 of 50 passes and breaking the 22-year-old mark of 450 yards set by Todd Husak. That game against the Cougars was one of six starts Mills made in place of injured K.J. Costello, who transferred to Mississippi State in the offseason. Stanford went 2-4 in those starts as Mills completed 65.6 percent of his passes for 1,960 yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions. Shaw described his form at the end of last season as "outstanding." "His play against Cal, his play against Notre Dame, I thought was borderline special," Shaw said. "We could put a lot on him and it's not too much for him. He can handle it all - protections, run game - very, very well. I think there's a high ceiling out there and we're going to try to push him to reach it." - Oakland Tribune
