*Caleb Farley, Virginia Tech, Player News

There have been some awkward moments at the NFL Draft when players invited to the event had extended stays in the green room waiting for their name to be called. Former Virginia Tech cornerback Caleb Farley is confident he won't join that list. Farley accepted an invite to this year's draft earlier in the week within days of having back surgery. The defender's latest injury setback prevented him from working out in front of scouts in Blacksburg at Tech's pro day. It was supposed to be a big moment for Farley since he opted out last fall. He anticipated wowing scouts with his testing numbers (particularly in the 40-yard dash) and lessening doubts about his football readiness in the position drills. He was a spectator on Friday instead, but that didn't impact the cornerback's confidence. "If a team wants the best corner in the draft they will come and find me," Farley said. - Roanoke Times

Most, if not all, ACC schools will honor the scholarships of fall sports athletes who opt out of playing this season due to health concerns, according to a News & Observer survey. The ACC left that decision up to individual schools, and 11 of the 15 schools confirmed they would honor those financial aid agreements, including all four North Carolina schools and Clemson. A Louisville spokesman said the school would "treat each case individually and let the circumstances dictate our decision." Three schools - Florida State, Louisville, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech - did not immediately respond. Virginia Tech cornerback Caleb Farley, a projected first-round NFL draft pick next spring from Hickory who played at Maiden High, announced this week he would sit out his redshirt junior season and prepare for the NFL draft instead. Farley's mother died of breast cancer in 2018. Virginia Tech has not said whether Farley's scholarship will be honored if he enrolls for the fall semester. - Raleigh News Observer

Giving outgoing longtime defensive coordinator Bud Foster a shutout was special for Caleb Farley and the Virginia Tech defense. The fact the shutout came against Georgia Tech was a bonus. Hendon Hooker ran for two touchdowns, Farley returned an interception for a score and Virginia Tech rode its dominant defense to a 45-0 win over Georgia Tech on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets were shut out for the first time in 22 years. It was a dramatic turnaround for the Hokies' defense from last year's 49-28 loss to Georgia Tech. "I don't know if y'all remember what they did to us last year, but I'm pretty sure everybody was fuming to get their hands on some Yellow Jackets," Farley said.

The Hokies are 5-0 in games started by Hooker, who completed 9 of 13 passes for 159 yards, including a 7-yard touchdown pass to James Mitchell. Hooker sat much of the second half in the lopsided win. Virginia Tech (7-3, 4-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) has won five of its last six games to move into contention for the Coastal Division title. Georgia Tech (2-8, 1-6) has lost three straight games under first-year coach Geoff Collins. - Virginia Tech/AP College Football
