*Joshua Kaindoh, Florida State, Player News

FSU's defense came out with energy, working together to limit North Carolina's typically prolific attack. Linebacker Stephen Dix Jr. finished with a team-high nine tackles while defensive tackle Marvin Wilson forced Howell to get rid of the ball quickly to avoid pressure. Defensive end Joshua Kaindoh also pressured Howell and returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown that pushed FSU ahead 24-0 and added to the Tar Heels' early frustration. "They're the reason why we won the game, to be honest," Travis said of the defense. "...Their energy that they brought made everyone else just go. They had so much energy and we were comfortable." - Orlando Sentinel

It would seem that Florida State defensive end Joshua Kaindoh's injury in the Seminoles' season opener Saturday was not as bad as it looked. Kaindoh, a redshirt junior from Baltimore, Md., left the Seminoles' 16-13 loss to Georgia Tech in the second quarter after he was on the receiving end of an illegal chop block penalty when a GT player dove and took out his knee. Kaindoh was evaluated in the injury tent, but never went back to the FSU locker room for further evaluation. He remained on the sideline for the rest of the game, never returning to action. FSU coach Mike Norvell shared a positive update on Kaindoh Monday, although he didn't disclose what injury he suffered. "I would say there's a positive prognosis on Kaindoh. That's something that we're going to continue to evaluate here day-to-day in the next week or so," Norvell said. "That is one of the things about having an extra week, it can kind of allow for guys to get a little extra time to heal up." The timing of FSU's bye week ahead of the Seminoles' next game Sept. 26 at Miami means Kaindoh will have two full weeks to get back to full health. - Times Union

Joshua Kaindoh has been through so much during his time at Florida State. Since arriving in Tallahassee as a heralded five-star defensive-end prospect out of IMG Academy in 2017, Kaindoh has seen coaching changes and injuries limit his progress with the Seminoles. He appeared in 25 games during his first two seasons, but he suffered a season-ending injury in the third game of the 2019 campaign. On Saturday, the 6-foot-7, 285-pound redshirt junior hoisted a sledgehammer into the air and released all of his frustration and hard work down onto a square rock inscribed with the names of the Seminoles and their coaches.

"When we finish fall camp, we have a symbolic rock that every player signs, that every coach signs and we get a chance to choose a guy who's demonstrated throughout camp the proper mindset and the proper approach in all aspects," new FSU coach Mike Norvell explained. "This year, Josh Kaindoh was the guy that broke the rock." Kaindoh appreciated the honor. "What it signified to me is that the hard work is paying off," Kaindoh said. "Everything is about the work that we're [putting in] … it goes to show that the hard work doesn't go unnoticed. "I came here in 2017 and things haven't obviously gone as I've wanted them to, but all I can do is keep working and hope all that hard work is going to pay off." - Orlando Sentinel

Florida State coach Willie Taggart says junior defensive end/outside linebacker Joshua Kaindoh will miss the rest of the season with a lower-leg injury. Kaindoh had nine tackles and one sack in three games this season. He was carted off the field during Saturday's 31-24 loss at Virginia. The injury means that junior Janarius Robinson will likely start for the Seminoles (1-2, 0-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) when they play host to Louisville (2-1, 0-0) on Saturday. Robinson has eight tackles and a fumble recovery in three games this year. Florida State is still developing depth at the defensive end/linebacker spot, so it's unclear who will back up Robinson. Among the veteran options are seniors Adonis Thomas and Josh Brown. Taggart also said Monday that left tackle Jauan Williams (ankle) remains week to week. Williams missed Saturday's game at Virginia. - AP College Football
