UNLV quarterback Armani Rogers announced Monday that he will be entering the NCAA transfer portal. Rogers was named the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year in 2017. He was voted a captain his sophomore season, and is the only quarterback in program history to rush for at least 100 yards in a game more than three times in a career. Rogers said it was a tough decision to transfer, but he will do so as a graduate, meaning he is eligible to play immediately at his next school. - KVVU-TV FOX 5 News

UNLV has offered its vacant head coaching job to LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press. The person spoke Tuesday night on condition of anonymity because negotiations are ongoing and no announcement has been made. The offer was first reported by Fox Sports. Aranda would replace Tony Sanchez, who was fired Nov. 25 after going 19-40 in five seasons. UNLV is looking to raise the profile of its football program with the Rebels set to begin playing home games in a new stadium being built for the NFL’s Oakland Raiders, who are moving to Las Vegas. The school also opened a $34 million on-campus football complex this fall. Aranda joined LSU in 2016 when he was hired away from Wisconsin by then-LSU coach Les Miles. He was retained by current LSU coach Ed Orgeron. Aranda is among the highest-paid coordinators in the nation, earning about $2.5 million per year. He spent earlier parts of his career with current Mountain West Conference schools, including stints at Utah State and Hawaii. - AP College Football
