Alabama defensive lineman Raekwon Davis had just been selected in the second round of the NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins, and reporters wanted to talk to him - about Tua Tagovailoa. Miami had used the fifth pick of the draft on Thursday night to obtain the Alabama quarterback. But even in his big moment, Davis didn't seem to mind sharing the spotlight with his former and future teammate. "It's the best thing you can ever think of," Davis said. "When nobody thinks you're going to be playing another coup le of years with your quarterback, it's a blessing."The Dolphins selected Davis on Friday night with the 56th pick, the fifth of 20 players listed as defensive tackles who were drafted this year. Miami wasn't dissuaded by the decline in Davis' sta tistics in his final two seasons at Alabama. Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said Davis had the qualities that Miami looks for in a defensive tackle: "He's big, physical. He's tough. He stops the run." "We're really happy to get him, and we didn't h ave any qualms about him," Grier said. "I know Brian (Flores) and the coaching staff and the scouting staff were really excited. We had him rated as a high-rated player for us." - Birmingham News

Tua Tagovailoa won't be the Miami Dolphins' only rookie from Alabama. The Dolphins selected defensive lineman Raekwon Davis late in the second round of the NFL draft Friday night. Miami took the second-team All-SEC selection with the No. 56 overall pick in the draft. While Davis' production dipped off over the last two seasons after posting 69 tackles and 8.5 sacks as a sophomore in 2017 and while he only had 3.5 tackles for a loss and 0.5 sacks as a senior last year, he was still ultimately a top two r ound draft pick. - Birmingham News

The 6-foot-7 specimen of a defensive lineman had early first-round draft projections assuming an early exit after the 2018 season. Last fall just didn't yield the results expected after a breakout sophomore season. It was Quinnen Williams who came from n owhere to dominate the defensive front en route to the No. 3 overall pick in the draft. So, he's back for that fourth Tuscaloosa preseason after opting against the draft in January. With it, Davis is the unquestioned veteran leader on a defensive l ine that lost starters Williams and Isaiah Buggs. "Sometimes it feels weird," Davis said. "Feels like you're the oldest. The thing is, sometimes I feel like I'm old but to them, they think I'm young. So, I've got to keep myself feeling young and play you ng to keep myself just moving better. I don't really like to feel old." "Just I feel like it wasn't me last year," Davis said. "I feel like this is my chance to prove myself to everybody like my team that I can do it and I can be that role model, that le ader I was supposed to have been. That's about it." - Birmingham News
