WEEK 1 SOCON SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ian Williams, Gr., PK, Furman, Charlotte, N.C.,...Williams scored 11 points in Furman's win. The Charlotte, North Carolina, native made three field goals from 50, 42, and 32 yards out, accounting for all of the team's points in the second half after the Paladins fell behind 21-14. The graduate student also recorded six kickoffs, five of those ending in touchbacks, and six punts, which included a 61-yard boot in the first quarter. Williams was named the Stat s Perform FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday for his performance against William & Mary. WEEK 1 FCS NATIONAL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ian Williams, Furman, PK/P, Grad, 6-4, 226,...The preseason first-team All-American gave Furman the leg up as its rallied past William & Mary 23-21. He scored the final nine points of the second half on field goals of 50, 42, and 32 (with 2:43 left) yards. He also made two PATs to finish with 11 points, and averaged 46.6 yards on five punts and 64.5 yards on six kickoffs. Ian Williams kicked three field goals and Tyler Huff ran for one touchdown and passed for another as Furman took over sole possession of second place in the Southern Conference with a 23-13 win over Mercer on Saturday. Furman (8-2, 6-1) is one game behin d conference leader Samford (9-1, 7-0), which posted a 35-24 win over Chattanooga Saturday. Furman closes out its regular season against Wofford. Williams kicked a 44-yard field goal in the first quarter to put Furman on the board, then booted a pair fro m 36-yards out in the second half.Huff capped a 10-play, 70 yard drive at the end of the first half with a 7-yard run to the end zone to take the lead for good, 10-7. Huff found Joshua Harris with a 56-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter and Williams added two field goals to make it 23-7 early in the fourth quarter. Fred Payton completed 29 of 41 passes and had touchdown passes to Ty James and Travion Solomon for Mercer (7-3, 5-2). SEPT 19 SOCON SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ian Williams, R-So., PK, Furman, Charlotte, N.C.,...Furman placekicker Ian Williams booted a pair of long field goals and kicked off six times in the Paladins' 27-14 win at No. 19/18 ETSU on Saturday. The r edshirt sophomore from Charlotte, North Carolina, opened the scoring with a 44-yard field goal early in the first quarter. In the second quarter, with ETSU leading 7-3, Williams dialed up another long-distance field goal, this time connecting from 43 yar ds. On his six kickoffs, Williams recorded five touchbacks and averaged 62.3 yards per kick.
