Nathan Walker ran for a 9-yard touchdown with 32 seconds to play to cap Wofford's come-from-behind 48-41 victory over East Tennessee State on Saturday. On third-and-7, Walker ran toward the middle then took a jab step, bounced it outside and ran untouched into the end zone. Wofford (2-6, 2-3 Southern Conference) had just tied the game at 41 with 2:54 remaining on Jimmy Weirick's 31-yard touchdown pass to Landon Parker. The Terriers avenged last season's 27-21 loss to ETSU (3-6, 1-6) that ended their nine-game win streak in the series. Weirick was 25 of 39 for 409 yards and threw three touchdown passes. Walker also had a 2-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter. Parker had eight catches for 179 yards. Jacob Saylors had 245 yards on the ground on 22 carries and scored three touchdowns for ETSU.   Walker Gliarmis booted a 26-yard field goal with 10:15 remaining and Wofford held off Elon the rest of the way, eking out a 24-22 season-opening win on Saturday. After Elon gained a final possession with a strip fumble at the goal line at just over a minute remaining, a Skyler Davis field goal try from 46 yards went wide with eight seconds left, sealing the Wofford win. Irvin Mulligan rushed for 110 yards, including a 65-yard scoring run that staked Wofford to an early 7-3 lead.

The longtime rivals - this was the 39th meeting - traded the lead five times in the contest. Elon had fallen behind 21-10 after Wofford scored two unanswered touchdowns in the second quarter, but ended the first half with a Davis 41-yard field goal, cutting the gap to 21-13. Davis, who also hit from 39 and 23 yards, made it 21-16 early in the third and the Phoenix grabbed a 22-21 lead on a Davis Cheek to Chandler Brayboy TD hookup late in the third.   The field of 24 teams competing for the 2019 NCAA Division I Football Championship was announced today by the NCAA Division I Football Championship Committee. Wofford College will host Kennesaw State on Saturday, November 30 at 4:00 p.m. at Gibbs Stadium in a first round contest. Wofford finished the season with an 8-3 overall record and a 7-1 mark in the Southern Conference to win the outright league title. This marks the Terriers tenth trip to the NCAA Playoffs and fourth straight. Wofford has won at least one playoff game in each of the last three appearances.

The game will be a rematch of a second round game last season in which Wofford was defeated 13-10 by the Owls in Georgia. "This is a great accomplishment for our players and our staff," said head coach Josh Conklin. "Now the new season starts with new challenges and it is time to start our game plan. For us it was always going to be about getting better as the season went along. I think we are playing our best football right now. Those two losses early hurt us with the seeding today, but we are in the playoffs and will have a chance. I am proud of the way that we responded and got better this season. Being at home is a good thing and we need everyone to come out and support us." - Wofford Football
