Following an injury to Taulia Tagovailoa in the fourth quarter, Billy Edwards Jr. stepped in and led a game-winning drive to lift Maryland past Indiana 38-33 on Saturday. After getting hit as he threw a pass, Tagovailoa was carted off the field with an apparent knee injury with just over 14 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Tagovailoa had been the Terrapins' main source of offense, throwing for 270 yards with two touchdowns and running for another score.

In his place, Edwards entered the game with Maryland down 27-24 and immediately started making plays, scrambling for 10 yards on his first touch of the day. Although the initial drive ended in a punt, Maryland quickly got the ball back after forcing an Indiana punt. A 31-yard run by Edwards got Maryland inside the Indiana 5-yard line and two plays later, Roman Hemby punched in the go-ahead score with just over five minutes left on the clock. On the ensuing Indiana possession, Connor Bazelak completed a short pass to Coby Andison but he was quickly met by Fa'Najae Gotay who forced a fumble that was recovered by Maryland. The Terrapins added an insurance touchdown when Edwards ran it in himself from 3 yards out. Edwards finished with no completions on three attempts but ran the ball five times for 53 yards and a touchdown. - Maryland/AP College Football

Tanner Mordecai passed for 336 yards and three touchdowns, and he rushed for 74 yards and a score to help SMU beat Navy 40-34 on Friday night. All four of Mordecai's touchdowns went for 20-plus yards. Mordecai raced up the middle for a 60-yard touchdown run to begin SMU's 20-point scoring run in the third quarter. Mordecai also had a short pass to Jordan Kerley, who used two good blocks along the sideline to race for a 33-yard touchdown. Mordecai connected with Roderick Daniels Jr. from 27-yards out for a 40-20 lead midway through the fourth.

SMU recovered Navy's onside kick with 2:30 left but went three-and-out before the Midshipmen scored with nine seconds left to cap the scoring. Dylan Goffney had a team-high four catches for 116 yards, including a 24-yard touchdown for SMU (3-3, 1-1 American Athletic Conference). Quarterback Tai Lavatai carried it 25 times for 121 yards and two touchdowns for Navy (2-4, 2-2). Lavatai was 9-of-22 passing for 137 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Navy's third pass attempt of the game went to Vincent Terrell Jr. for a 24-yard touchdown with 14 seconds left before halftime.   Wisconsin running back Chez Mellusi will miss an unspecified length of time after injuring his right wrist in the Badgers’ 42-7 victory over Northwestern. Mellusi has rushed for 223 yards and one touchdown on 56 carries this season, He also has two catches for 25 yards, including a 23-yard touchdown in the Northwestern game. Wisconsin announced Monday that Mellusi wouldn’t be available Saturday when the Badgers (3-3, 1-2 Big Ten) visit Michigan State (2-4, 0-3). Badgers interim head coach Jim Leonhard said it was uncertain just how much time Mellusi would miss. This marks the second straight year that Mellusi has missed time with an injury. Mellusi, a Clemson transfer, rushed for 815 yards and five touchdowns on 173 carries in nine games with Wisconsin last year before a torn left anterior cruciate ligament knocked him out for the remainder of the season. - AP College Football

Head coach Mack Brown announced yesterday during his press conference that the UNC football program will be without Sebastian Cheeks for the remainder of the season due to an upper-body injury, more specifically a shoulder injury. Cheeks was not in uniform for the team's victory over Virginia Tech on Saturday afternoon. Prior to suffering the injury, the Skokie, Illinois native played in 3 games, registering three total tackles.

This is a rather big blow to the Tar Heels, as not only does it impact their linebacker depth, but also hurts them on special teams. The freshman was making a push to earn more time on the field with the defensive unit, but this injury, unfortunately, sidelined him before that could happen. For Cheeks, he'll still have the ability to use a redshirt season, given that he did not play in four or more contests. The hope is that he'll return healthy next season and will be ready to become a steady presence for the UNC football program's defense. - Keeping It Heel.com

Wisconsin fired head coach Paul Chryst on Sunday after a 2-3 start to his eighth season leading the school where he played, in the city where he grew up. The surprising move comes a day after Wisconsin lost at home 34-10 to Illinois and former Badgers coach Bret Bielema. "This is certainly not a decision that's taken lightly," athletic director Chris McIntosh said at a news conference. "It's not a game-by-game decision. This is a decision that's based on where we're at as a program." Chryst was 67-26 as coach of the Badgers after being hired away from Pittsburgh. But the program has been backsliding. Chryst had double-digit victory seasons in four of his first five years at Wisconsin while winning three Big Ten West titles. The Badgers have gone 15-10 since. "It's a tough time to make a transition, but I felt it was the right time and that's what led me to it," McIntosh said. Defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard, who was an All-American at Wisconsin, was named interim coach. The 39-year-old former NFL defensive back has been part of Chryst's staff for seven seasons and is considered one of the top assistant coaches in the country. - AP College Football

Wisconsin tight end Clay Cundiff is unavailable indefinitely but hasn't been ruled out for the season. Cundiff was carted off the field Saturday in the Badgers' 52-21 loss to No. 3 Ohio State. In the injury report released Monday, Cundiff is listed as unavailable for the Badgers' upcoming game with Illinois due to an injured left leg. But he's not among the players out for the season. Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst declined to offer a timetable for when Cundiff possibly could return.

Cundiff injured his leg as he went down after making a catch in the final minute of the first half at Ohio State. As he was carted off the field, just about every Wisconsin player left the sideline to greet him and offer support. It's the second straight season in which Cundiff has been carted off the field with a major injury. He dislocated an ankle, broke his fibula and tore the deltoid ligament in his right leg last year in a 27-7 victory over Iowa, knocking him out for the rest of the season. Cundiff came back from that injury and caught two touchdown passes in a 17-14 loss to Washington State earlier this season. He has nine catches for 142 yards to go along with those two scores. - AP College Football

Braelon Allen rushed for three touchdowns to help lead Wisconsin to a 66-7 victory against New Mexico State Saturday. The three-TD performance for Allen matched a career high. The sophomore running back finished with 15 carries for 86 yards and three scores for the Badgers (2-1), who rebounded from a 17-14 loss last week to Washington State. Allen broke away for a 39-yard rush for a score to give Wisconsin a 7-0 lead just 90 seconds into the game. Allen's effort marked just the third time in his last 12 games that he's been held under 100 yards. Chez Mellusi had a 2-yard touchdown run to cap a seven-play, 63-yard yard drive that pushed Wisconsin's lead to 14-0 with 14:56 to go in the first half.

Keontez Lewis caught an 18-yard touchdown pass to increase the Badgers' lead to 21-0 with 12:22 left in the first half. Badgers linebacker Maema Njongmeta got a pick on an Aggies deflection at New Mexico State's 2-yard line that set up Allen's second TD two plays later, a 1-yard rush that pushed Wisconsin to 28-0. Quarterback Graham Mertz went 10 of 13 for 251 yards with three touchdowns and 1 interception in three-plus quarters. Mertz threw to six different receivers. Myles Burkett, a true freshman, replaced Mertz with 5:34 to go in the third quarter. Deacon Hill was inserted with less than 30 seconds remaining in the third. Badgers wide receiver Skyler Bell caught 3 passes for 63 yards and two touchdowns, including a 49-yard TD catch. The Aggies (0-4) just had 100 yards of offense in the first half. They collected 82 yards during a 13-play drive with less than 3 minutes remaining. - Wisconsin/AP College Football

Redshirt freshman right tackle Riley Mahlman sustained an injury to his left leg in the third quarter against Illinois State and didn't return to the game. He was not listed on the status report. However, UW hasn't listed any players as questionable thus far this season, only designating players as out or out for the season. Mahlman was blocking on a third-and-goal snap at the goal line when tailback Braelon Allen and a defender crashed into his leg left. He played the fourth-down snap, an Allen touchdown, but didn't move much and then limped to the sideline before the extra-point try. - Wisconsin State Journal

Wisconsin safety Hunter Wohler will miss at least one game after injuring his left leg in a season-opening victory over Illinois State. The status report No. 18 Wisconsin released Monday ruled Wohler out for Saturday's home game with Washington State (1-0). Badgers coach Paul Chryst indicated there's a strong possibility the injury will keep Wohler out for a longer period. "I don't know for sure, but I think it will be a bit of time," Chryst said. Wohler made his first career start in the Badgers' 38-0 triumph. He played in each of Wisconsin's 13 games last season in a reserve role, finishing with 16 tackles and one sack. - AP College Football
