  11/08/19 - *Hunter BryantJr/2020, Washington, 6-2, 248 (DS#7 TE) + More +

One of the bright spots for Washington is the continued development of tight end Hunter Bryant. With the speed of a wide receiver but the size of a tight end, Bryant has become a favored target for Jacob Eason. Last week against Utah, Bryant had six catches for 105 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The six receptions tied a season high and it was his second 100-yard receiving day of the season. Bryant is second nationally in yards receiving by tight ends with 557. "He's a natural catcher and a really competitive guy when the ball is in the air. That's what you really like about him," Petersen said. - AP College Football

  11/05/19 - Michael Penix Jr.rSr/2024, Washington, 6-2, 216 (DS#5 QB) + More +

Indiana quarterback Michael Penix Jr. will miss the rest of the season with an injured right shoulder. Penix hurt the joint between the collarbone and sternum during the first half of Saturday's victory over Northwestern. It's the same injury Kansas City Chiefs star Tyreek Hill sustained earlier this season. With Penix headed to surgery Monday, Peyton Ramsey reclaims the starting job he held the last two seasons before losing the job to Penix in August. Indiana is 6-1 this season in games where Ramsey has seen action. He has three starts and has finished four other games, helping the Hoosiers (7-2, 4-2 Big Ten) post their highest victory total since 2007. Indiana has a bye this weekend. Coach Tom Allen says the team expects Penix, a redshirt freshman, to return strong next season. - AP College Football

In front of one of the largest crowds in Hornet Stadium history, Sacramento State completely dominated then-No. 6 Montana, 49-22, to jump from No. 17 to No. 8 in this week's AFCA FCS Coaches' Top 25 Poll. Montana was the third straight ranked opponent that Sacramento State has beaten in as many weeks. The Hornets are 3-0 in Big Sky Conference play for the first time in school history. North Dakota State still sits No. 1 after a 22-0 blanking of Missouri State. The Bison will take part in one of four Top 25 matchups this coming weekend as they travel to No. 3 South Dakota State. The winner will be in sole possession of first place in the Missouri Valley Football Conference.

The rest of the Top 25 matchups include No. 2 James Madison playing host to No. 17 Towson while No. 5 Weber State travels to No. 22 UC Davis. The final matchup sees No. 10 Central Arkansas hosting No. 25 Sam Houston State. The Bearcats jumped back into the poll this week after upsetting then-No. 9 Nicholls, 17-0. The other two newcomers to this week's poll are No. 23 Florida A&M and No. 24 Central Connecticut State. The Rattlers took down then-No. 11 North Carolina A&T, 34-31, in overtime, to assure their spot in the Top 25. - American Football Coaches Association

  10/13/19 - *Jacob EasonrJr/2020, Washington, 6-6, 231 (DS#5 QB) + More +

Jacob Eason and the Washington offense had struggled for the better part of two games by the time the quarterback saw Aaron Fuller sprinting toward the front corner of the end zone. Then came a beautifully-thrown ball over Fuller's right shoulder for a 22-yard touchdown. Suddenly, the Huskies couldn't stop scoring. Eason threw for 243 yards and two touchdowns, Salvon Ahmed ran for three touchdowns and Washington rallied in the second half to beat Arizona 51-27 on Saturday night. It was an impressive bounce back win - especially for the offense - after a deflating 23-13 loss to Stanford the week before.

"We know how we can play football," Eason said. "Some guys stepped up. We played our brand of football in the second half and it showed today." Washington (5-2, 2-2 Pac-12) trailed 17-13 at halftime but responded with two touchdowns in the third quarter to take a 27-17 lead. The Huskies left little doubt about the outcome early in the fourth quarter after two good throws by Eason. The first was a 39-yard completion to Jordan Chin over the middle of the field and the second was the 22-yarder to Fuller that led him into the corner of the end zone, just inside the pylon. If was quite the offensive performance after a rough first half. Washington finished with 207 yards rushing, including 106 yards by Sean McGrew and another 95 from Ahmed. - Washington/AP College Football

Kevin Thomson threw three touchdown passes and ran for two scores and Sacramento State beat Montana State 34-21 on Saturday. Thomson finished with 260 yards passing and 74 yards rushing. He ran for the Hornets' first two scores, then passed for the next three to three different receivers. The Hornets (4-2, 2-0 Big Sky) scored twice in the third quarter to take control of the game. Montana State drove to the Hornets' 1 with just under 10 minutes to play but was stopped. The Bobcats (2-1, 5-2) were unable to get stops on third down all game as Thomson and the Hornets converted on 9 of 11 until midway through the fourth quarter. MSU also came away empty on three trips inside the Sacramento State 22.

Linebacker Miguel Garcia picked off a Tucker Rovig pass on MSU's opening drive and Jeremy Harris dropped Travis Jonsen for a 5-yard loss on the next MSU possession as the Hornets' defense set the tone early.   10/12/19 - Michael Penix Jr.rSr/2024, Washington, 6-2, 216 (DS#5 QB) + More +

Reakwon Jones raced 17 yards with a Rutgers fumble to score 10 seconds into the game and Indiana set a one-sided tone in an embarrassingly easy 35-0 Big Ten Homecoming romp over the hapless Scarlet Knights on Saturday. The touchdown was the fastest in Memorial Stadium's 60-year history. The Hoosiers scored three touchdowns in the opening 6:52, starting on the first play of the game. Indiana's Demarcus Elliott drilled Rutgers quarterback Johnny Langan to force the fumble, which Jones scooped for the go-ahead score. It was the first of four Indiana sacks in the first half.

After a Rutgers three-and-out, Indiana (4-2, 1-2 Big Ten) needed just 47 seconds and two plays to cover 70 yards as Michael Penix Jr. completed a 56-yard pass to Whop Philyor and then a 14-yard TD pass to Peyton Hendershot. After another Rutgers three-and-out, Indiana took a bit more time, needing five plays to cover 59 yards in 2:43 with Nick Westbrook scoring on a 19-yard Penix pass. Rutgers (1-5, 0-4) has been outscored 165-7 in conference play, including 117-0 on the road this season and now has lost 16 straight Big 10 Conference games. No Big Ten team has been shut out more since 2000 than Rutgers (10), and the Scarlet Knights didn't join the conference until 2014. - Indiana/AP College Football
