Ethan Grunkemeyer threw for a career-high 262 yards and two TDs, including a 73-yard strike to Trebor Pena early in the fourth quarter, and Penn State beat Clemson 22-10 Saturday afternoon in the Pinstripe Bowl. Both teams struggled at times with the frigid conditions at Yankee Stadium following a snowstorm. The temperature at kickoff was 28 degrees and the wind chill made it feel like 19 while the snow from Friday's storm was piled in the right and left field corners. In his seventh start since Penn State lost Drew Allar to an injury, Grunkemeyer completed 23 of 34 passes, setting career bests for completions and attempts. His best throw was to Pena, who caught the ball at the Penn State 44, ran by Clemson safety Ricardo Jones and rumbled untouched down the left side for a 15-3 lead with 12:51 left in the fourth.

Grunkemeyer also made a 35-yard throw to Devonte Ross to get the Nittany Lions deep into Clemson territory that set up an 11-yard TD toss to Andrew Rappleyea with 4:56 left for a 22-10 Pena finished with five catches and 100 yards. Pena had the third 100-yard game of his career and was named the game's MVP. Before connecting with Pena, Grunkemeyer moved the Nittany Lions into field goal territory three times for Ryan Barker. Barker made a 22-yard field goal on Penn State's first possession, along with a 48-yard field goal and a 43-yarder. Penn State (7-6) won its final four games under Smith, who took over for James Franklin following a 22-21 loss to Northwestern on Oct. 11 and will be succeeded by Matt Campbell. Clemson's Cade Klubnik completed 22 of 39 passes for 193 yards in his final collegiate game while getting sacked four times. He also had eight passes broken up by Penn State defenders. The Tigers scored their lone touchdown on Adam Randall's 2-yard plunge with 8:47 left to slice Penn State's lead to 15-10. Clemson (7-6) saw a four-game winning streak stopped and was held to its fewest points in a bowl game since a 10-7 loss to LSU in the 1999 Peach Bowl. - Penn StateAP College Football

Bill Davis ran for a 76-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter and Tony Sterner made the winning kick in overtime for Louisiana-Lafayette in a 30-27 win over UL Monroe in a season finale for both teams on Saturday. Davis's touchdown came with 12:27 left in the fourth to put the Ragin' Cajuns (6-6, 5-3 Sun Belt) ahead 24-20. UL Monroe answered with a touchdown drive when Aidan Armenta found Nic Trujillo for a 43-yard score to lead 27-24. Sterner made a 30-yard field goal with just over 3:30 to play in regulation.

In overtime, Brent Gordon Jr. made a leaping interception to keep the Warhawks off the board. Then ULL quarterback Walker Howard rushed for 20 yards to set the Ragin' Cajuns up at the 5-yard line. Two more rushing tries brought them to the 1, and Sterner drilled the kick for ULL's first overtime win of the season. Howard came in relief of Lunch Winfield, who left the game after the third quarter with an undisclosed injury. Howard had six completions for 44 yards and rushed for 33 yards. Davis had 126 yards on 15 carries. Armenta completed 19 passes for 311 yards and three touchdowns for the Warhawks (3-9, 1-7). Trujillo had two touchdowns and 133 receiving yards. Zach Palmer-Smith rushed for 114 yards. - Louisiana/AP College Football

Bill Davis' 36-yard run put Louisiana-Lafayette in front for good and the Ragin' Cajuns stopped Arkansas State at its own 1-yard line on the final play of the game to win 34-30 on Thursday night. Bell's touchdown gave Louisiana (5-6, 4-3 Sun Belt Conference) a 31-27 lead late in the third quarter and Tony Sterner's 50-yard field goal early in the fourth made it a four-point lead. The Red Wolves (5-6, 4-3) answered with a field goal and then drove 89 yards to the 2-yard line only to see Jaylen Raynor stopped at the 1 within a mass of players as time ran out. It took a review to confirm Raynor didn't reach the goal line. Lunch Winfield passed for 147 yards and rushed for 89 more including two touchdowns for Louisiana.

Raynor threw for 256 yards and rushed for 54. Devin Spencer rushed for 71 yards and a score for the Red Wolves. Spencer's 1-yard run was the Red Wolves' only TD on offense and it came at the end of the half for a 27-24 lead. Arkansas State's other touchdowns came on Cody Sigler's 27-yard fumble return and Chauncey Cobb's 93-yard kickoff return. Arkansas State turnovers on a punt and kickoff led to Louisiana's first two touchdowns. Louisiana was without seven players who were suspended by the Sun Belt Conference after a postgame melee in their previous game, a 42-39 win over Texas State, which had six players suspended. - Louisiana/AP College Football

James Franklin was hired as Virginia Tech's coach on Monday, a little more than a month after he was fired during his 12th season at Penn State. The Hokies became the first Power 4 football program to fill a coaching vacancy this season. Franklin was set to be formally introduced at a news conference Wednesday morning. He was fired by the Nittany Lions on Oct. 12, a day after they lost at home to Northwestern to fall to 3-3. The 53-year-old Franklin went 104-45 at Penn State, winning a Big Ten championship (in the 2016 season), a Fiesta Bowl (2017) and a Rose Bowl (2022). Last season, he led the Nittany Lions to a first-round victory in the College Football Playoff. "I'm honored and humbled to join the Hokie family," Franklin said in a statement. "My vision is simple: to restore unmatched excellence, to build something that lasts, and to serve this university, the Commonwealth of Virginia and our amazing fan base with honor, integrity, and passion. I look forward to getting to work with our players, our staff, and the entire Virginia Tech community." Terms of Franklin's contract were not released. Before he was hired by Virginia Tech, Penn State had been on the hook for a buyout worth nearly $50 million. But Franklin and the Nittany Lions negotiated a settlement under which he'll be paid $9 million instead, according to multiple reports.

Franklin has a 128-60 overall record, including his three seasons at Vanderbilt. In Blacksburg, he takes over for his former Nittany Lions defensive coordinator, Brent Pry, who was fired on Sept. 14 after the Hokies lost their first three games by an average of 18.7 points. Virginia Tech started 0-3 for the first time since 1987. Pry went 16-24, including 10-13 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, in his three-plus seasons. The Hokies (3-7, 2-4 ACC) have since been led by interim coach Philip Montgomery. Franklin was maligned at Penn State for not winning big games - he went 4-21 against teams ranked in the top 10 of the AP poll - but he brings credibility to a Virginia Tech program that has struggled since Frank Beamer retired in 2015 after 29 years at the helm. - AP College Football

West Virginia's Curtis Jones Jr. said he's available to play running back whenever he's needed. Jones normally lines up at a hybrid linebacker position, but the sophomore who played on both sides of the ball in high school has been given more practice time in the offensive backfield in recent weeks due to numerous injuries to others. On Saturday, Jones had two short TD runs on his three carries and West Virginia held off Colorado 29-22. "He could be a weapon," West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez said. Jones was the only back who weighed more than 180 pounds available for the Mountaineers after backup Tyler Jacklish got hurt in practice on Wednesday. "I had to shake the dust off a little bit in practice," Jones said, adding that it doesn't matter what side of the ball he's playing on. "I'm just trying to help my team in any situation I can." West Virginia (4-6, 2-6 Big 12) has won two straight for the first time this season.

Colorado (3-7, 1-6 Big 12) has lost three straight. The Buffaloes kept this one close after being outscored 105-24 in their previous two contests. Colorado freshman Ju Ju Lewis threw two touchdown passes in his first start in place of Kaidon Salter. He brought the Buffaloes within 19-16 with a 23-yard scoring toss to Omarion Miller midway through the third quarter. But Colorado never held the lead. Jones punched in a 2-yard run for a score in the second quarter, then scoring on a 4-yard run with 4:15 left in the game for a 29-19 lead. After Alejandro Mata's third field goal brought Colorado within 29-22 with 1:16 left, West Virginia recovered the ensuing onside kick and ran out the clock. - West Virginia/AP College Football

  10/24/25 - Kyron DronesrSr/2026, Virginia Tech, 6-2, 233 (DS#32 QB) + More +

Kyron Drones threw a touchdown pass in the second overtime before running for the two-point conversion and Virginia Tech rallied last in a 42-34 victory over California on Friday night. Drones hit Takye Heath for a 7-yard touchdown to begin the second OT for Virginia Tech (3-5, 2-2 Atlantic Coast Conference), and then ran it in on the mandatory two-point try for an eight-point advantage. True freshman Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele threw four straight incompletions for California (5-3, 2-2) to end it. "We knew it was going to take all three phases to get it done," Virginia Tech interim coach Philip Montgomery said. "In the second half, our guys continued to battle, continued to fight, and they were resilient all game long. I just couldn't be more proud of our football team and our coaching staff, with the way they've welded together and stayed together. "Boy, what a big win. The joy in that locker room was unbelievable. The good Lord has blessed us in that way, and I'm just really proud of this team and how hard they fought tonight and how hard they've been fighting." Virginia Tech's John Love and Cal's Chase Meyer both missed go-ahead field goals in the final 62 seconds to force overtime.

Sagapolutele connected with Mason Mini for a 25-yard score on the first play of OT to give Cal the lead. Drones scored on a 17-yard run to tie it. Drones completed 9 of 18 passes for 119 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. Marcellous Hawkins rushed 21 times for 167 yards and Drones carried 21 times for 137 and two scores. Drones connected with Ayden Greene for a 27-yard touchdown and Love added a 46-yard field goal for a 10-3 lead after one quarter. Another Meyer field goal and two short touchdown runs by Kendrick Raphael gave the Golden Bears a 20-point run and a 10-point lead at halftime. Love kicked a 52-yard field goal and Drones fired a 44-yard scoring strike to Heath to tie it 20-all heading to the fourth. Drones scored on a 14-yard run with seven minutes left to put the Hokies ahead, but Raphael scored on a 2-yard run to tie it at 27-all. Sagapolutele completed 24 of 39 passes for 285 yards. The third of John Love's three field goals - a 49-yarder with 6:31 remaining - provided the winning points. The Hokies (2-3, 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) are 2-0 since Brent Pry was fired. Philip Montgomery is in charge as interim coach.

CJ Bailey threw two touchdown passes for N.C. State (3-2, 1-2), which has lost two in a row. The Wolfpack went ahead with 10:56 remaining on Jayden Scott's 1-yard touchdown run. Later, N.C.   Kyron Drones threw for 307 yards and two touchdowns and also rushed for two scores to lead Virginia Tech to a 38-6 victory over Wofford on Saturday. Drones completed 27 of 32 passes for the Hokies (1-3), who were playing their first game since the university administration fired coach Brent Pry on Sept. 14. Philip Montgomery, the Hokies' offensive coordinator, is serving as the head coach for the remainder of the season.

The Hokies jumped out to a 21-0 first-half lead and never looked back against the FCS Terriers (0-4). Drones completed passes to seven receivers in the first half - 11 for the game - and threw touchdown passes of 19 yards to Devin Alves and 18 yards to Ayden Greene on back-to-back possessions in the second quarter.   Virginia Tech fired football coach Brent Pry on Sunday after the program stumbled to its first 0-3 start since 1987. The school announced the move a day after the Hokies fell behind 31-0 on the way to a 45-26 home loss to Old Dominion. In a statement, school president Tim Sands said the change was "necessary" due to on-field results described as "not acceptable" as Pry reached his fourth season. That included giving up 65 unanswered points over more than 70 minutes of game action during last week's home loss to Vanderbilt and into Saturday night's loss to ODU, which beat Pry's Hokies in his coaching debut in 2022 and again in what became his finale. "Blacksburg will always hold a special place in our hearts," Pry said in his own statement. "We leave with wonderful memories and lifelong friendships, and we will forever be cheering for the Hokies." Offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery will serve as interim coach, while Sands pointed to a need to "develop a financial, organizational and leadership plan that will rapidly position (the program) to be competitive with the best" in the Atlantic Coast Conference. "The new framework for college sports will be fully established for next season, so this is the time to make a major move," Sands said.

This is Virginia Tech's first 0-3 start since the first year of Frank Beamer's 29-year run that put the Hokies on the map nationally, notably with a trip to the national championship game behind star freshman quarterback Michael Vick in 1999 among Beamer's 23 bowl appearances. Beamer's run ended in 2015 and the Hokies played for the ACC title a year later, but otherwise the program has struggled for traction and hasn't cracked the AP Top 25 poll in four years. The school hired Pry in 2021 after eight seasons as the defensive coordinator at Penn State. But the former Virginia Tech graduate assistant under Beamer went 16-24 with the Hokies, including 10-13 in league play. - AP College Football

Justin Pegues took the opening kick and raced 100 yards for a touchdown and Terion Stewart ran for three scores, including 73 yards for a fourth-quarter touchdown, and Bowling Green rolled to a 41-17 win over Fordham in the season-opener on Thursday night. The Falcons opened their season at home for the first time since 2019 with their first meeting with the Rams. Pegues, a transfer from Tennessee Tech, fielded the opening kick while straddling the goal line, found a big hole in the Fordham kick coverage at the 20 and raced down the right-hand sideline for the score just 12 seconds into the contest. Jaison Patterson threw a pair of key blocks to help spring Pegues.

Stewart scored the first offensive touchdown for Bowling Green, bursting seven-yards for the score midway through the first quarter. Lucian Anderson III scored from 13-yards out to make it 20-0 after a quarter. Connor Bazelak added an eight-yard touchdown in the second quarter before Bennett Henderson connected on a 24-yard field goal as time expired to get the Rams on the board before intermission. CJ Montes hit Cole Thornton for a 30-yard touchdown to start the third quarter, but Stewart scored on a seven-yard run late in the third quarter and put the game away with his 73-yard score midway though the fourth quarter. - AP College Football
